Can any one please give me some ideas, my ds is getting wet throught to his babygrow every night twice and three times a night even, I change him after the dream feed and his bottles during the night but i do think he would sleep through if it wasn't waking him up. have tried different brands, moved up to bigger sizes, put a swimming nappy tried a little swimming pance over his nappy no good he got sore from the extra layers from sweating, i think during the day i change him very often we have the odd leak through to his clothes. he has a six oz df and is wet after that does anyone know of some alternatives please to help him because he realy is a very good liitle baby and is thrieving on his easy routine, hungry baby too!!

We had issues with this when our DS was quite young - we found that as he got older it happened far less frequently.
Have you tried night time nappies? Pampers do ones called Baby Dry - especially for night. They are extra absorbency & we've never had any problems with them unless we've needed to go up a size.

With ds1 we used huggies 12 hour night nappies, one the correct size and another on top 2 sizes bigger. It was a phase he grew out of though and never had the problem with ds2 or dd. Hth

Cloth nappy users sometimes use woolen longies at night (basically wool pants) over the nappy. Wool is breathable so no sweating, and antibacterial so the longies don't need to be washed more than about once per week. Apparently they will keep everything dry. You could also look into the PUL (waterproof) wraps that are usually used over the top of cloth nappies. They are not at all like the old fashioned plastic pants that were sweaty and dig into babies legs, modern cloth nappies are beautiful, soft - you could try a wrap over your disposable (not trying to convert to cloth nappying). You might want to look into it. I don't really have any more info on it as I don't use them (I do use cloth nappies but don't get leaks so I don't use anything additional over the top).

Thanks for the tips have tried the pampers stilled leaked throught. poor little ds woke last night was hungry when he woke i think he is def. waking from being wet. Have just ordered the bambee bamboo natural nappy and will wash the inserts but they have a new night time one out and they look realy cosy so cant wait to get and try them and there an irish company too.. creations what ones do you use ? have you seen these ones?

I hope you find the cloth works well. We use Mother-ease bamboo nappies with a bamboo booster and Mother-ease Airflow wraps and never get leaks.

I use bumgenius one-size birth to potty nappy. They are a pocket nappy which means you can add extra inserts for night or heavy wetters, they come with two inserts each (a standard and a smaller booster also used for newborns). I did find that putting both of these didn't see us through the night so now I have a hemp or a bamboo insert in with the regular microfibre one. I do change at the dream feed although sometimes I think I needn't have bothered.
Sorry I don't know about the ones you mentioned. I've only used the BGs (ok not quite true, mum bought a few of another make and they looked rubbish from the word go and leaked in the day after only 2 hrs. My aunt also gave me a few barand new Kushies which are size 1, they have never fitted DS yet and he is now 6 months so I think they must be for very chunky babies - they are also no where near as soft as BGs).

Make sure you launder the new cloth nappy several times before trying it out at night. New cloth inserts take several washes to get to their full absorbency, if there are no instructions then I'd go with a minimum of 6 washes prior to use. You do not need to dry them between these washes. Also be very careful with the amount of detergent you use. A full load of nappies takes only a third of your regular amount of washing powder (I use only a few teaspoons), the temptation is to use more detergent with it being a nappy (esp when soiled) but this will block the nappy up and reduce the absorbency (leading to leaks!). Also, very important, do not use fabric softener for the same reason. And finally you should usually do an extra rinse after the wash cycle to ensure detergent is thoroughly rinsed away - if you see bubbles during this rinse then a) keeping rinsing until no bubbles b) use far less detergent next time.
You might not even need your cloth nappy now that you have a nappy cover solution but just thought this brief intro to the cloth world might help you.
You might also want to look at a mattress pad to protect the cot (later bed). Mine is a swaddlebees good size, lovely and soft for sleeping on and fully waterproof (I don't use it in the cot though as it isn't needed). You'll get lots of use out of it when potty training/night training and can also use as a play mat for no-nappy time whilst LO is young. In later years when your pelvic floor finally waves goodbye you get to use it again ;)

Yay! The wake up is maybe habitual, starting from the wet nappies... :-\

Thanks for your tips been away for a few days.. well got my nappy supply disaster i am using two inserts the boosters and double fold over called the night genie pretty big looking!! any way little man keeps soaking throught he seems to pee straight up and at an angle wetting the tie over part of the nappy and all up the side of him have it as thight as i can in put it laves in prints if its too thight what am i going to do ? first i must wash a few more times and one more question when he does a poo do you throw yours straight in the machine?? and the nappy cover idea using a larger size nappy thats not working either still waking can pacify him popping dummy in his mouth a hundred million times and end up giving him a four oz bottle and settles straight away what am i going to do????

I know it's frustrating but over stuffing a cloth nappy can make it leak because it gets so stuffed that the fit becomes poor. When it's on look for 'air' around waist and legs, it needs to be a snug fit, but you shouldn't be getting it digging in his legs at all.
he seems to pee straight up and at an angle wetting the tie over part of the nappy and all up the side of him
don't totally understand this, don't know what the tie over part of the nappy is, you mean the waist? Is the pee shooting up through a gap at the waist??
Give him a dressing down...haha...you know like some men dress to the left, some to the right, poke it down as you put the nappy on so pee is directed down into the body of the nappy and not directed up towards the waist band.
when he does a poo do you throw yours straight in the machine?
breast fed poo is usually ok to go straight in the machine and most of it soaks into the insert anyway. Formula poo, explosive or solid poo, put it in the loo. If it's solid enough it can roll off into the loo, otherwise (there are various methods but this is mine) use an old spoon to scrape gunky poo off the surface and wipe it on tissue, drop down loo. Keep the spoon in with your loo brush in the bathroom. Might seem yuck now when you are used to disposables, but you wipe his pooy bum so not much different really. Then the nappy can go straight in the machine, cold rinse, hot wash (very little detergent), cold rinse.
Other than needing more pre-washes to increase absorbency I'm not sure what's going wrong for you. It could be the extra fluids going in with night wakings. I just use my regular day cloth nappies at night with an extra booster added, it's not too big, but I do change at the dream feed and I don't feed again after that. DS has a cold at the moment so we have had a couple of NWs and I've given water and milk and his nappy has been more soaked in the morning but we only had one actual leak with this additional fluid intake.
What sort of boosters and inserts do you have? Hemp and bamboo are more absorbent than cotton, microfiber absorbs faster.

LOL! - I was just about to say the same thing - we always make sure he's pointing down before we fasten up the nappy. A tip we got from the midwife in hospital b/c otherwise it just leaks out over the waistband.
