For about a week and a half now my 9 month old is waking every 30 to 45 mins from 7pm when he falls asleep til around 11pm. Last night he woke at 2am too. He screams out so loudly when he wakes. I asssume it is the end of his sleep cycles. He never used to do this. I suspect OT but have no idea how to get round it because he will not sleep longer than 30mins in the afternoon. I have tried for months and months to extend this nap. But he has been napping like this for months and he never used to wake up like he is now, so can it really be related?
He also wakes at 4am every morning but we can get him back to sleep.
Any ideas on what I can do? Its really getting to me now.

Does sound like OT hun, or maybe teeth causing discomfort when he is in light sleep, how do his teeth look...have you tried medicating before BT? Can you post EASY? You haven't introduced any new food in the last week that could be causing sore tum?
-
I thought teeth initially, but gave nurofen last night and it made no difference. One of his top teeth has just cut through.
I don't think he has had any new food but he has had a bit of a horrible nappy then last few days. I will have a think about what he has eaten.
EASY:
A - 6/6.30
S- 10
A - 11.30
S - 2.30
W - 3
S - 6.50
I know the last nap is way to short but I tried to extend for such a long time I gave up in the end though it does worry me everyday! Theswe NW's are fairly new though and the nap is not. Although thinking about it he did used to take the nap a little later when he was home with me everyday but now he is at a childminder some days, he has it earlier and she says sometimes he struggles from about 2pm.

Sometimes the meds don't take all the pain away. Those top teeth are just awful. DS are not cut yet but moving down and he is struggling. My thought is that he teeth are still bothering him enough to wake him...his other top tooth may be about to cut as well :( If the NW continue after the teeth have cut through completely I would suspect something else, but I really do think this could be teeth! That 2am wake would most likely have been once the meds had worn off...they only last about 6 hours.
-
He already has the other top tooth! And the 2 either side of them. This is the last one for a while I think! The other few nights I gave the medicine about 11pm after 4 or 5 wakes ups (I am conscious of giving it too much) and he went til 4. Last night I gave it the first time he woke which was 7.30 and he still woke another 4 times before 11 and then at 2. So I suppose that would make sense that he woke at 2 having had his medicine earlier than normal IYSWIM??!
I still think there is some OT too. How could I combat that? I am scared of letting him sleep whenever he wants! I also don't want to make his first A too short incase he uses the nap too make up for lost night sleep.

Poor wee man! Yes you may have some OT. On a a short nap do you find early BT help? You prob have OT by BT in your EASY further up. I think you could bring that nap forward to 9.30 and it shouldn't affect your nights.... :) (Hugs) we are in a bit of a teething mess too....its also a hard age with the 2-1 approaching and the days hard to fit it all in!
-
Yes its a very hard time 9 months. Last night he slept through from 7pm til 6am (only about the 3rd time he has ever done it!) so no early night wakings, they just randomly stopped, but he has woken up really grumpy and still seems really tired. I thought this would have solved it as he never has a full, unbroken nights sleep normally.

We get those lovely long nights without NW just after DS cuts teeth...and sometimes when he is catching up on OT. It may be a good day to start watching his cues and see if he indicates a new A time? :)
-
He indicated he wanted a 1hr30 A time! No idea why he is still so tired. I will do 9.30 nap I think
-
teeth probably hun...See how long he sleeps, maybe he is just in need of a big catch up. :)
-
hope so!
-
how did that nap go?
-
He woke after an hour! I tried to get him back down but he wasn't having it, though he was crying so much and obviously still tired. Then he was miserable so we went out in the car and he had another 30min and then was fine!
However, he has got a tummy bug or something as completely off his food and has thrown his last 3 bottles back up so we are off to the docs in a bit. Hopefully this may explain some of the NW's.
-
Poor wee man :( I hope the Dr can shed some light. You will get NW when they are unwell :-*
-
No milk for Aidan today, doctors orders :'(
Hopefully he will be on better form tomorrow. We've had no more sick today anyway and he has kept his (very bland) solids down.
On the up side he has only woken once in the first 2 hours of sleeping. On the possible down side he had a lot of extra sleep today and possibly a bit too close to bed time, so who knows what the rest of the night will bring............. ::)
-
What is wrong? :( Why no milk....
-
Tummy bug. Doc said he could have toast and banana after half a day with no diarrhea and then a small amount of milk after 1 day with no diarrhea, then build it back up. If he is ok tonight he can have some in the morning.
-
Oh poor thing! :( What are you going to do for fluids to keep him hydrated...water?. Are you BF or Bottle as over here if on the breast it is recommended to keep feeding them small amounts to keep them hydrated.
-
He is having water little and often. We have had 2 solidish poos now and no sick, so gave him 2oz of milk this morning and all fine so I 'll offer more at lunch time.
He slept through last night, 12 hours! After a completely random day too as the docs ruined our nap routine! I assume its cos he is under the weather though and won't expect the same tonight!
-
LOL we get those when DS is recovering too...prob a one off but I hope you took full advantage and got a good night sleep too hun! :-*
-
I still woke at 5.50, which is the time he has been waking recently! I am a terrible sleeper so don't know why I expect different from Aidan!
Fingers crossed for tonight!
-
LOL same here. I sleep very lightly - DH sleeps like a log. I think DS has inherited my sleep patterns ::)
-
Its a shame isn't it!! I wish Ds had my DH's sleep habits too!
