For the last 2 nights DD has only needed one feed between bedtime at 6.30pm and wake-up 6-7am. This is great of course but today she has seemed starving!
I fed her on waking 6oz and less than 3 hours later she was crying for more - another 6oz which she drained. Should I be offering her more? Seems like quite a bit in one go?
Do you think this is because of essentially dropping a feed?
It feels like a gs but only in the day iykwim. Lots of 45 min naps, hard time settling for them and being hungry???
thanks

I would say it's a growth spurt - she's around 12 weeks ish right? If she is hungry then just feed her, it should only last a couple of days if it is a GS. Maybe she's not waking at night so much because she is shattered from the 45 min naps so is making up for it in the day rather than waking more at night (I know which I'd rather!)
If she is draining those 6oz bottles you need to put another oz in there too - there should be a bit left at the end of a bottle feed so you know they have stopped because they are full and not just because the bottle is empty!

thanks laura - yes she is 10.5 weeks. I am very happy about the nights obviously but wondering why the days (yesterday and today) are much worse....will make sure I put an extra ounce in now.
-
so 1.5 hours after her milk she was crying. Offered and she drank another 5oz! Has not slept well all day - does that sound like a GS?
-
I think just go with the flow for a few days and see what happens. 5oz is a lot for a comfort suck - if she wasn't hungry she wouldn't take all that or bring it back up again.

With DD her GS were obvious by her behaviour. Grouchy, would not sleep and just whined all day long like she was uncomfortable in her own skin. Never woke more through the night though.
It does sound like one to me. ;)
-
hmm well after the 45 min nap day from hell maybe that is it. She has been more whiny and needed the dummy to settle for every nap which is a bit of a regression. :(
-
sounds like my kids in a GS as well, Becky. Always loved them for not waking in the night but again, they were whacked from eating every 1.5 hrs in the day ;-)
Emma did begin to wake again for a 3am feed at the 12 week GS (she'd been doing 7-7 with DF from 10 weeks) and by 13 weeks we were back to STTN. Oscar still hadn't gotten to STTN at 12 weeks but his 5am feed moved back to 3am and then gradually forward again till we were STTN iykwim.
Hugs and well done little Martha. She has an angel spark there afterall ;-) Spirited/Angel that is ;-)

hmm well yesterday was back to normal but last night she woke twice for a feed and then was up early too. I did not think it was hunger but after dummy etc not working gave her one and she drank 5oz so something is going on...
-
another night with 3 feeds - 11.30pm (5oz), 2.45am (5oz) and 5.35am (3oz)
Hope it is a GS as we seem to have regressed a bit?
-
laura - do you think it might be an idea to start a df?
-
You can certainly try one. It can take a good week for them to get used to it and to see if it works, but if she is waking around 11.30 anyway I would give it a go.

I will try and see how the next few days go. If she is still waking 3 times then I may need to look more at the routine i.e. maybe she needs to go to a 3.5 hour routine? I am already giving 6oz feeds in the day so 7oz seems a lot for a lo of her age?
-
I know what you mean, but if she is taking the whole feed and keeping it down then it's likely what she needs. I seem to remember one of my friend's LO taking what seemed rediculous amounts of formula around this age but it lasted a few weeks and then eased off a bit. Have you had her weighed recently, if she is sticking to her growth curve (or at least not making huge jumps up) you know it is what she needs.
If she is draining those 6oz bottles you should add another oz and see how she does.

It does seem like a lot of formula but as Laura said, some LO's seem to need it. My DD has never been one to break 30 ozs in a day, but I have a friend whose DD would hit 40 ozs some days!
-
hmm. each night she seems to be waking earlier for the first feed. We did not manage to df her as she woke at 10.15pm (4oz), 2am (4oz) and then 5.30am (3.oz)
I think the 3am is more that she was wet through and not exactly starving.
She normally takes 5-6 oz at a feed so if she is taking 4oz at night is that ok? I just want to make sure it is ok to be feeding her this much and not cause bad habits....what do you think?
-
I do wonder if during the day I need to move her to more of a 3.5 feeding routine rather than 3. Problem is if she short naps which she often does sometimes I end up feeding even earlier so more like 2.5 otherwise she will get really OT.
-
so we have upped the bottles to 7oz. This am she drank 6.5oz 2 hours after having 3oz and she was crying for milk 2.5 hours after having that and is now drinking her way through the next 7oz!!!!
-
How long has this been going on for now? It could still be a growth spurt. How is she during feeds - is she feeding calmly? What flow teats do you have her on now?

WOW! that's a hungry girl ;) Must be a GS. My DD did last a good week of crazy feeding for the 3 month one... and again at 4 months.
-
she is on the slowest teat still. This is the fifth day since things started going weird. We had 2 nights with just one feed but strange days, one of which she needed an extra feed and all terrible naps and then the last two nights have been 3 feeds. Today she has drank 27 oz of milk which with night feeds last night totals 38oz.
Annoyingly after guzzling all day she went to bed after just 3 oz so probably in for a rough night!
-
That's totally a GS! My 9 month old just had a 38 oz day - teething and refused solids ;)
-
thanks Kara.
Well we introduced a df last night and she went from 10.30pm-5am which was great. Maybe we are over the worst of it!?

My kids were very, very like this Becky. Ok, I don't KNOW how much they took but we'd go from 2 hr or even 1.5 hrs between feeds and then by the end of the day they'd be so whacked that they'd not be interested at all in feeding at bedtime and then take a great DF and have a great night. And that would be it, GS over for the next time.
Hoping this is what is was. A stretch like that does everyone so much good xxx

back to 3 night feeds :(
DH did a df at 10.30pm and then it was 1.30am and 4.30am and up for the day at 7am.
She took 2 x 5oz and 1 x 4oz so not exactly comfort sucking!
This is going on a long time for a GS. We are off on holiday for a week so I guess I will continue the df and see if it starts to help.
-
I would keep the DF for a couple of weeks or so and see if it helps, it can take a while to adjust to it. My two were useless at the DF and if they did actually take anything they woke more often afterwards so we stopped it and just let them wake when they were hungry.
