So for the last week Alyssa has been doing 1hr and 20min naps and I have been shortening her A in the am and still we get the same nap length. The majority of the time I can extend them. Today, however, she woke up at the 1hr and 10min mark. I know when she is OT I can extend it but today was a no go.
Should I try going back to 5.5hours of A time.
here is a rough day
wake 6:45-7am we get the 7am wus occasionally
nap 12-2pm
s7:20/7:30pm
today she woke up at 6:40am
nap 12-1:10pm not able to extend here
going to aim for a 20min Cn at 4:30pm and a 7:30pm bt
God these naps suck

How old is she now?
1hr 20min naps usually mean UT for us but I it depends on the A-time before the nap as to whether it's OT or UT if that makes sense?
How long has she been on 1 nap for?
Any teething going on? What are her nights like, any NW's?

She just turned one. She has been on one nap for one month now. There have been a few two nap days when she short naps. Nights are fine (fx). I just saw a tooth cut this morning.

I would go careful pushing her A-times already if she's not been on 1 nap for long. E is 19mths old & his routine has been pretty much the same since he went to 1 nap at 14 mths. More than likely the teeth causing the issue, I guess you've been giving meds before sleeps?

I normally give meds, but I didn't yesterday.

Personally, I would wait until her teeth come through until you routine tweak, as you know if anything LO's can get more tired when teething & A-times can drop.
I would carry on giving meds before sleeps.

here is today:
wu 6:45am
nap 11:55-woke up at 12:40pm. Patted her on my shoulder and she drifted off. She also burped so that could of been what caused her to wake up here.

So that's a longer nap than she has been doing, good news!
I would stick to the routine you have & ride out the teething. Does she have reflux BTW?

Reflux, yes, but it is much better now. Doc wants to wean meds but I am not ready yet. :-\
woke again at 1:30pm, had to rock her back to sleep. I can count on one hand the number of naps I haven't extended. Please tell me she will eventually sleep for 2hours on her own.

If she's teething that won't help her reflux as it can cause it to flare up.

here is how our day is going:
wake 6:40am
nap 12:05pm-2pm (had to settle at 1pm) not interested in anymore sleep after 2pm
aiming for a 7:15bt

so I am back. I don't know if we are still teething. I suspect so as teething come in pairs for her. Over the weekend, I have been needing to extend her nap at the 1hr mark, then again 20min later. I don't know if I should shorten her A time to 5hrs or move it to 5.5hours. She wakes up crying, but it sounds like a pain/discomfort cry. i have been giving meds.
I hope she grows into her nap.

Could well still be teeth...does she have her 1st yr molars yet? Personally I wouldn't push her A-times until things settle down plus 5.5 hrs A-time is high for her age. If you think it is teeth then if anything I would maybe pull her nap a little earlier just to see if this makes a difference (bearing in mind that A-times tend to decrease when LO's are teething).

Just a couple thoughts, does she fall asleep on her own? DD1 was not at that age and had bad naps like that tho we switched to one nap a bit later at 14 mths. DD1 eventually was able to fall asleep on her own by 15/16 mths and we still had 70-80 min naps till after 19 mths. She would often do a 13 hr night tho and I always had her in bed by 6:30ish and she was up by 7/7:30 am. To me, that A time seems a bit long but all kids are different. Both my girls never liked a long prenap A time. DD1 was at 4.5 hrs for a long time and maybe around age 2 was at 5/5.5 hrs.
DD2 is a much better sleeper (likely due to earlier sleep training) and didn't switch to one nap till 18 mths when I made her cause the summertime came, she is still only at 5 hrs A time and would do less if I let her. We are often out with activities for DD1 so she doesn't get to nap till 1 pm and that is with an 8 am wakeup. So maybe try a shorter A, maybe just ride it out. As my first child has shown, not all do those 2 hr naps. She did do much better after 19 mth tho and actually still naps at almost 4.5 yrs so all is not lost! HTH!

thanks. Will try a little shorter A for a few days and see if that helps. I know she can easily do 5.5hr post nap. She has always been on the higher end of A times.

For the last three days I have cut her am A time. Day one she still woke up and I had to settle. Nap length was 2.5hours. Day 2 had to settle again and nap length was 2hrs. Today, 1.5hours and did not want to go back down. Should I try one more day with the same A time? I am doing 5hrs and 15min now.

I would probably give it a couple more days at the same A-time & see what happens!

here is an update. I don't know what is going on but suspect molars.
Thursday, napped from 12-:125pm, got a cn in at 5pm for 10min and asleep by 7:45pm. I had to week her up at 7am the following morning. Nap 12:15-2:10pm, woke up at the 30min mark. put her down for bed at 7:30pm but didn't fall asleep until 8pm. Woke up this morning at 6:15am. I think we may be teething again. Do you think yesterday she was just OT and couldn't fall asleep or was it UT? Normally, she goes down like a breeze.

Difficult to say if she's teething, especially if it's her molars coming through. Give meds before sleeps to see if this helps but otherwise keep an eye on her tired cues as she may get tired a bit earlier than normal if she's teething.

I suspect molars as she has been very fussy the past few days. her nap ended up being 2hrs and 20min, but bt was a battle. Normally she does 5.5hrs of A time. I put her down and she just moaned, fussed and fussed until 7:50am. that was an A of 6hrs. She never resists bt. I need to take a peek in her mouth. I hope we get a decent wu time tomorrow.

I would say that that was a reasonable A-time, though it was a long nap & therefore she maybe could have handled a bit longer?
If she's still teething, then these are more than likely responsible.

Yup. still teething. I can't seem to take a good look in her mouth. I could of sworn I saw her gum swollen.
I am just mentally exhausted. As soon as things go smoothly you hit a big bump.
I just hope I don't have to start cutting her nap already!!

I wouldn't start cutting it yet...I'm sure it's the teeth that are the culprit & as you know, it'll pass! ;)
I know it's tiring (DS has his canines coming through ATM :P!)....have you done a meds dream feed?

TBH i haven't tried a df med b/c I go to sleep at 9 and dealing with these pesky EWs has really taken a toll on me. :'( :'(
She woke up at 4:30am am. First fussed, then it escalated so I went and gave her some meds with a sip of water. Cuddled her for a few minutes and put her back down. She chatted for a while, threw her sippy cup overboard and her teddy overboard. Sigh. Anyhow, she has a little cold but she just didn't seem tired to go back to sleep. Normally, she would instantly put her head on my shoulder and fall right back asleep. Last night,she was blowing raspberries and talking. She finally went back down at 6am.

I hope so. TBH, I would rather have awful naps then nws. See how tonight goes. She seems very tired atm. I woke her at 7am and plan to put her down at 12pm.

So I put her down at 12:10pm and she popped right back up. Didn't want to go to sleep.I left her and she drifted off at 12:20pm. Woke up at 1:15pm, then again 20min later and then again 15min later. could be the cold. She doesn't sound as congested and can still breath through her nose.
I am stumped. I am just hoping she doesn't give me a long NW tomorrow. Two days in a row now. Maybe she does need her nap capped at 2 hrs. YIKES!! I will leave it as is for another few days.

I agree, when LO's are ill it's hard to now whether it's a routine issue or just them not feeling 100%.

Asleep by 7:30pm and woke up at 6am for a few minutes b/c her older sister was crying in the hallway. ::) ::) ::) i think she went back down for 15mins. I got her out at 6:30am. On a brighter note she napped on her own for 2hrs and 20min yesterday with no intervention from me. I just don't get this girl. If it is not one child, it is the other. I give up!

don't know what to do today. She slept from 11:40am-1:30pm. Do I fit in a Cn and do a 7:30pm bt or do a 7pm bt? my gut tells me to do a 5-10min Cn.

Personally I would go with an early BT rather than a CN but your call!

here is an update:
asleep by 7pm and woke up at 6:45am. :o :o :o :o Put her down for her nap at 12pm and she woke up at 1:25pm, not wanting to go back to sleep. grrr. I guess this was an UT nap. I don't think she will make it to 7pm with a nap that short. I may go for a little walk around 5pm and see if she will snooze for 10min then aim for a 7:30pm bt.

Possibly...she does seem to be able quite long A-times for her age. If you can get a CN in then great, at least it will get you to a later BT & *hopefully* later WU!!
