Title: Kara's Baby Pooper Cubes :)
Post by: *Kara* on October 18, 2011, 20:35:48 pm
The name says it all :)  DD had a real battle with constipation when we started to really get into solids.  A good friend of mine gave me this recipe and it works wonders to get things moving along very quickly ;)

In a saucepan, combine:

14 dried apricots
10 dried pitted prunes
1 fresh pear, cored and quartered.

Add water to the pot until the fruit is almost covered and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.  Reduce heat, cover and simmer at low temp for approx 25 mins to soften all fruit.

Puree to desired constistency using cooking liquid to thin it out a bit.  You do want it to be thicker than most purees though - much like a heavy jam would be.

I freeze in ice cube trays overnight and then store in plastic zip-top bags.  A standard ice cube is 1 oz - I use 2 cubes per serving and mix it with baby cereal or plain greek yogurt.  You can serve it on toast or crackers as well as on it's own :)

If there is any remaining liquid, you can use it as a juice for baby as wel, just dilute it 50/50 with additional water.

Apple, pear and apricot puree always did the trick here!

We used the same recipe Kara except simmered in orange juice instead of water. Works every time. When he was older we used to freeze the mixture (thinned down a bit more with OJ) into ice lollies too!
