Title: To feed or to not...
Post by: Amita11 on December 03, 2011, 14:28:57 pm
So, my night wakings continue, but I have a bit of a better control over them.  My daughter is 7 months old and wakes up every 2 or 3 hours or so.  She feed like a trucker during the day, so I know she shouldn't be hungry when she wakes up at 10pm, 11pm or 12am, but is she hungry when she wakes up at 2am, 3am or 4am?  I feed her because I assume she is hungry, but I remember my first bon didn't do this.  I know every baby is different, but...

Can someone tell me if she should be able to go throughout the night without a feeding?

Thank you all!!  :)

Are you BFing or FFing?

If you are BFing one NF wouldn't be uncommon.  How many times are you feeding at the minute?

I breastfeed her at 8am, 12pm and at 4pm.  She has a bottle only at bedtime (8pm) and is eating solids...well, mushy stuff.  She has breakfast (8:45am-9amish), lunch (1pm), a snack at 4:45pmish and dinner at 6pm.

Thanks Shiv52!

With 4 BFs a day it is totally normal to have 1 NF.  I know with mine they still had a DF and NF at 7 months and then once the solids were really well established we weaned one and then the NF went toward 1.  I was a bit lazy at weaning them and i didn't mind as they went straight back to sleep.

Do you DF?

I don't dreamfeed, because I dare not wake the monster!  :)

I don't mind feeding her at 2 or 3 when she wakes up.  I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't becoming a prop for her to get back to sleep.  How long does the night feed go on for usually?

My LO is 7 months and is also waking up for a NF. She was going without for months, but around the 6 month mark she would wake up every hour from 4am on and I finally pinned it down as hunger. Since then she wakes up once a night for a feed. But unlike your LO, mine has become resistant to feeding during the day ever since I started her NF. I am now pumping and trying to get 3-4 oz. in her at each feeding. I don't dare wean her NF right now, but am assuming that they won't stop until she starts drinking more during the day. She's SO easily distracted though.
If you do want to eliminate the NF, because your LO drinks so well during the day, maybe you could slowly wean the NF by a minute or so every night. They should make up for it during the day.
