My son will be a year old on the 27th.....he still has 3 bottles a day and 3 solid meals a day. He drinks all of his liquids minus bottles from a sippy. I know at a year they can transition to cows milk but I have to wait due to stomach issues. My question is, should I start trying to give him his milk from a sippy?? I am sure he will not drink it unless its a bottle....how much formula is he still supposed to be getting at this age?? What's a good plan from here??
Here is his typical day:
Wake 7am
bottle 7:30 (5 ozs)
breakfast 8:30
Nap 10:15-12
Lunch 12:30
bottle 2pm (5 ozs)
nap 2:30-4
dinner 5pm
bottle 7:30/7:45
bedtime 8pm
didnt know if there was a specific time to do things or not, I am a first timer!! :) Thanks so much!!!

I am on a very similar course with Alexandra :) But we are on one nap now so our days are a little different ;)
They need 12-16 oz of dairy to meet calcium requirements at a year. You could cut either his morning or mid-day bottle out and not worry at all. I would try giving his morning milk in a sippy first - he will be hungriest then and most likely to try it ;)
Was just thinking about Cole - how is he doing with the new meds?

Do I really need to do the sippy?? already on one nap with Alexandra? Wow thats early huh?? Was it a tough transition like they say?
Cole is doing ok.....we went to the specialist 2 weeks ago, she presecribed him senna (laxative, 1ml at bedtime) and changed his probiotic to Florastor and told me to decrease the miralax to 2 tsp once a day from 4. Well he got worse!!!! So I called and they told me to up the laxative to 2ml and prescribed him Lactulose(its like miralax but liquid form 3ml once a day) he got even worse!!!! So I called and they had me to go get an xray and see the dr. She said he doesnt have any blockages, he's just really backed up. So she upped the Lactulose to 5ml 2x a day and I started that on Tuesday. Wednesday he went 5 times! and last night I think his belly was hurting from all the medicine....so I am decreasing the senna to 1ml and using the Lactulose as needed. Full dose in the am and then kinda wing it in the pm depending on how much he goes. So hopefully tonight will be a little better b/c last night he was up crying and tossing from 1am to 5am. Poor little guy. They said if he isnt better in 2 weeks they want to test for Celiac disease and Hypothyroidism. He does show signs of the Celiac for sure.....I pray thats not it!!!! :(

Ugh - we have celiac in DH's family and I was terrified that was our issue too. Huge hugs! My SIL (who has the 2 kids with celiac) had me do a 4 week elimination of all gluten and then slow reintroduction - it was the ticket! Alexandra has been completely fine ever since... SIL explained that starting grains too early can cause celiac-type responses since a young infant can't digest gluten much like a celiac can't... elimination often does the trick. I am so glad I have her to refer to with food issues! She even has a kid with a rice allergy - who even knew you could be allergic to rice!
We moved to one nap when I started getting to the point of a fight for every nap and BT and I was constantly waking her to protect her next sleep - we were both miserable! Her nights dropped to 9 hrs 45 mins O_o. I just took the leap one day and haven't looked back - it was tough for the first week or so, but then she totally adjusted and now sleeps 11+ hrs every night and naps for 2-2.5 hrs each day... unless teething/sick etc ;)
-
wow, thats great news. I would love if you would share the elimination diet with me so I could try it.....
Cole still naps awesome but I believe its because he sleeps horrible at night!!! Seems like he goes down between 8/8:30 and gets up around 7 but is up half the night and I know its tummy related....if we fix the constipation and this still persists then maybe its a sleep issue as well.....

LOL! Yeah, if it isn't one thing it's another ;)
I just completely cut all gluten products out for 4 weeks... used quinoa cereal for adults - I whizzed it in the Magic Bullet and used it as baby cereal (A was only 8 months at the time)... Other than that, all fruits and veg are totally fine, as is rice based stuff. I just read lots of labels and made sure everything was gluten/wheat free ;)
-
for the record - Baby Mum-Mums are gluten free - all flavours ;)
-
So, no cereal (even cheerios), graham crackers, cereal bars, etc? What about sweet potatoes?
-
no cereal at all - you have to cut wheat completely - so that is anything made with flour. Cheerios are oat based, but oats are high risk for cross contamination with wheat.
All fresh veggies/fruits are fine :) Sweet potato included :)
-
How do you make them feel full without most carbs?
-
You can use beans, quinoa (it's a complete protein), meats...
-
He had lima beans for the first time last night and LOVED them!!! But they came right back out!!! Now we gotta back off the meds, he's going too much. :(
-
LOL! My sign to back of the Miralax was always formula milk solids in her diaper ;)
-
He has the worst diaper rash EVER!!! He wont even sit in the bathtub!! :(
