Title: Can anyone talk to me about SA
Post by: Claudiamummy on January 03, 2012, 09:30:32 am
Hi everyone!

Ok, DD is 9 months next week, and still has not sorted out day sleeping very well so we still catnap

She is bf and doing great on solids. No medical issues

We were on hold for Christmas and NW started but calmed after a few days settling, but one or two are hanging around

Usually about 30mins after going into cot (very very drowsy but awake)

Then another one later....

These wakings are not happy/talking... They are instant screaming, usually calmed within a miniute or two with a hand on her back (although last night was an hour with cuddles, and eventually a feed as she was so upset I thought she would be thirsty)

Teething.... Possibly although from our experience with the first two, she could not be resettled due to the pain.

My gut thinking is this is SA..... Anyone got any thoughts...BTDT stories to share, or tips on how to ride it out???

Many thanks
Claire

Hi there, do you want to post your routine in EAS format for us to take a look at? 30 mins wake up could be OT. Does your LO suffer from SA during the day if you leave the room etc?

Just the 30 min wu and that DD is unhappy but easily calmed made me think OT. What with the Xmas routine upset, late nights and OS we have had a bit of this to deal with too. It could also be SA too though. Will take a look when you post back and see what we can come up with.

Hi bex, ok here are our last couple of days. It's mayhem, I am so close to going to set naps and gave posted on the naps board regarding that topic, but let me know if anything jumps out. I think you are right though.... It's not SA... I have really observed her these few days, and she is pretty much fine to be alone in a room

Last b/f 7pm, usually asleep by 7.30 but she didn't seem to want to settle (not upset in any way just restless)

N/w...
1am upset but not screaming, would not resettle, so offered a bf and she went back off
3.30ish... Our first ever " happy w/u!" she was upset but when I picked her up, she was chatty!! Would not resettle so offered another bf (very naughty I know, but this never happens!!) finally back to sleep at 4.30ish

6.20 w/u crying dh went to try and resettle her did so with apop.... Got another 40 min sleep cycle
W/u 7.25

Asleep at 10.19 ( 2.55 a)
Popped her in about 5 mins before but she was rolling and not happy think she was alreadyOT???  Or maybe UT.... Went back in to resettle

So annoying as 2.50 A got a decent (ish) nap yesterday!!!(1.15hr with an ot resettle at 35 mins)

11.08 Resettle again at 45 min apop
W/u again 11.20 took a feed ( I thought she was up) fell asleep!!!

W/u - 11.50 w/u and I gave up!!!

B/f solids at 1

Sleep 2.30 ( she had s busy A and gave sleepy signals and shorter A due to early dramas!!)

2.50 w/u cried, but i managed to resettle her
3.05 woke again I gave up

B/f

4.50 catnap bang on time... This has been "set" and it makes me VERY tempted to risk set naps through the day....

5.30 w/u solids
Bath etc
Bf (put into sleepsack afterwards as A before bed)

7.45 asleep

10.30pm but not sure about this as DH bumped into something in her room, and I think he disturbed her

11-1.30 various w/u and little shouts but she self settled on all of them.....this is new and I am wondering teeth as the top two although not through, are ver visible through her gums

1.30 cried out and would not settle offered water, gave calpol she was calm but "asking" for a feed

B/f and put her back - slept till morning

W/u 6.40 (I think! I usually hear her stir and watch her wake on the monitor, today i was shattered and just woke when she started talking!

9.27-asleep (2.50 a time) into cot no problem asleep almost instantly... (we start wd about 2.10 hours where we move to quieter toys like stacking cups at approx 2.30 we look at the same soft book and cuddle moving upstairs about 2.45

W/u at 40 mins ( this a full sleep cycle for DD) she called out and cried

Went in turned her over and resettled her with a hand on her back

W/u crying at 10.50am
(1.20 sleep cycles is fantastic for us!! But why the crying?

Asleep 13.3o 2.40 a time (went on dd cues which started about 2.20A)....

1.34 w/u..... This doesn't happen on naps. It was probably the "jolt" but i Wondered about teeth again so gave calpol and although she was upset, got her to sleep at 2pm (3 hours A)

W/u 2.52 really crying
Would not resettle

Catnap as usual 4.50-5.30
Solids/bath etc
B/f bed
7.45 Went into cot and usually she is our, but had seemed very awake (it was the same a couple of nights ago) she wasn't destressed, but she did needed dh to settle her... I am wondering if I need to takle the catnap, but she always always takes it so I don't want to rush her.... Should I make bt later???

Finally asleep 8.15

W/u 8.41 crying dh resettled

W/u again around 10.30 didn't get her settled properly until 12.15am!!!!!! This is unusual and made think teeth

W/u 5.38 fed and b2s 6.05

Wu 7.23
Into cot 10. (2.45 a due to cues and hard night) didn't settle in cot went and checked and she had her head right up on the bumber.... Got her sorted had a cuddle and a bit of a rock

Sleep finally 10.21 (2.56 A) but seemed on the brink of OT:-(
Woke up crying at 10.50.... Tried to resettle apop but she would only sleep when being rocked, had to lay her down as dying for loo and she woke up properly at 11.30.... Not even sure where to count from!!

She gave no signals but started acting ot so attempted putting her down from 2..08

2. 44 Finally asleep after numerous attempts at resettling!!!!!! In the end she was so inconsolable u had to b/f (which never happens!!)

3.15 jumped but went back to sleep ( no surprise OT) cried initially waited to see if she would settle for five mins then she cried, when I went to her she was WIDE awake... Typical ot behaviour from DD.... Gave up decided to go for catnap later

4.50-5.30 cn

5.30 little bf/ solids bath bt routine another b/f
Asleep 7.35

Who knows what tonight will bring!!!!!

N/f 3.10am.... Fed well back down 3.44....unsettled gave calpol in case if teeth

4.11am b2s

7.05 awake

9.50 asleep (approx 2.45 A time)
Disturbed and resettled at 10.57 almost 2.50 A)
Woke and cried at 40 mins!! (sigh!!!) Crying escalated immediately so dh ap back for another 40

All thoughts appreciated

Hi there, so sorry it has taken me so long to read through and reply to your post. I think maybe the fact that your DD isn't a great sleeper for naps is also having an impact on her NT sleep too. Have you tried set naps yet, if so how is that going?

The fact that you are having to feed back to sleep or resettle so much with APOP is probably becoming an issue and she may be relying on that to get back to sleep. Have you tried just ressettling with a hand on her back, shush/pat, etc? Then sticking with that and not feeding, holding her etc?
