Title: Anyone's kids share a bed? Opinions?
Post by: Roseii on February 14, 2012, 22:00:26 pm
I rather like the idea of my girls sharing a big bed :) DH and I would like a new bed at some point and have talked about the girls sharing our old double, when dd2 is a little bit older (she is 20mo now) I suggested it to dd1 and she loved the idea! Of course we wouldn't push it if they didn't want to.

Thoughts? Experiences? Thanks :-*

My cousins shared a big double bed growing up and they loved it.

I am just about to move my monsters into the same room and i think they will love it. I think they would love to share a bed too but they'll have to make do with a shared room!!  I guess the concern would be that they would not been able to sleep alone but loads of kids share rooms and dont have an issue then moving to their own space.

If your girls are cuddly and like being together, why not? In our case, J is sensory avoiding and wouldn't do well :). My only concern would be bedtime, it's hard to go to sleep when someone is there to entertain you, but we solved that by putting bedtime 30 min apart. (They share a room) When we move J will have his own room and I and N will share one. They are my social bugs, J needs his space.

I love the idea of my girls sharing a bed. Madison always talks about wanting Alyssa to sleep in her bed.

I have wondered about this as well, because we could easily leave the double bed in the boys' future room and just have DS1's current twin as the guest bed (instead of buying another twin for DS2), but I wasn't sure if it was a good idea or not.  I think they would probably love to share a bed, I guess I was just thinking ahead to the future of when they would want their own space.  I'm still not sure what to do!  Would be interesting to hear if other LOs share a bed and whether or not it works for them.

My girls share a room, though not a bed -- the times when they have slept in the same bed, they tend to thresh about and keep each other up.  They both seem to need to toss and turn a touch before falling asleep and I worry they would keep each other awake if they did.  Dd2 is more of a night owl, dd1 is a morning person too.  The girls do really well sharing a room after an adjustment so I would think that they could eventually adjust to sharing a bed too.  It was just easier for us to keep them in separate beds.  I'm glad they share a room, wouldn't have it any other way now (and neither would they -- the room sharing was their idea in the first place!).

My sister and I shared a room and a bed growing up.  The bed sharing didn't last, though!  We are 4 years apart, and I am the oldest.  I remember sleeping together drove me crazy, but she was fine with it.  I am very touchy when I am trying to sleep, so her moving around and making little noises upset me.  I would definitely do a trial run- it could be wonderful, but also could cause strife!

I loved loved loved loved.....you get it, sharing a bed with my sis growing up.  IN fact when we moved to a new house I got the old queen bed and she got a new twin bed but we would often sleep together until we were probably 10 or 11 years old.  But then again, my sis and I are close.  I found that it gave me great comfort as a child sleeping with my sister and not to mention it was fun!!!!

My girls became hooligans when they shared a bed ::) We had a lot of other things going on, so I'd recommend that bedtime be very well established before attempting it. And it could also be seen as a priveledge as they really did love to share a bed, and the caution that I'd separate them was usually enough to settle them down. For a while..............lol

My sisters boys (16 months age gap) shared a bed for years, probably until they were about 7 & 8 years old.  I can't remember why they got rid of the big bed and bought the boys single beds, but the first night that they had the singles in their room my sister woke up to a lot of crashing around in the middle of the night and went in to find them pushing the two singles together :)
