Title: Is my 10mo reliant on bottle to get him back to sleep?
Post by: lizziesmart on March 02, 2012, 10:35:43 am
My DS is 10 months old. He Has always been a pretty good sleeper - goes down brilliantly for his naps and at bedtime. 90% of the time he sleeps 7-7 with a NF at 3am. Then we had him sleeping through which was *amazing*. Of course he then priced up a sickness bug and back to NW again!  Recently he's  been waking up 2-3 times a night and all he wants is a bottle. He'll drink 5-7oz every time! I don't know if this is habit ( I have never really got him to go back to sleep in the night without feeding him as usually it is once and for a bottle (if that makes sense) or if I'm not feeding him enough during the day?? He'll drink and drink and fall back to sleep.

My routine differs depending on hs morning sleep!

Wakes:6.30
E: 7oz then weetabix

It's driving me doolally not knowing what to expect for the day - depending on his morning nap. I don't like o wake him as he is like a different child if he's slept well! But now he is starting nursery I really want to get it Sorted. Do you think this is affecting his night sleep?

He's crawling, pulling himself up and really active. Sorry if this message is a little rambled!! My first post!!

Hi there :)

I wonder if his increased NW are routine related a bit. His first A is very short and then his PM A is quite long with that first EASY example. The next one is a lot of day sleep for a 10 month old and could be taking from his nights.

I suspect your LO may have developed a bit of a prop with the. Outlets go back to sleep. At this age it's easy for them to get attached. I know when my LO was poorly I started feeding and in the past he would go back to normal, but at this age he started waking forthe breast to get back to sleep ::)

There are a few ways to tackle it. Have a look at these links and let me know if any sounds appropriate for you.

I was thinking just the same. And actually - my writing it all out made me realised it more! So I am now making sure his naps are no more 1 1/2hrs and I'm not feeding him in the night before 1am. The first night he woke at 8pm and 9pm and I did pu/pd and he slept until 6.30am!!!! Last night he woke at 2.30am and I managed to get him back and then 3.30 but only a bottle would work. But I feel like m getting somewhere at least. And with knowing how long his aps will be - I can plan our days better! It definitely shows in him already! Thanks for getting back to me.

When do you think I should keep going with pu/pd and refuse him a bottle? I know he can do it!

Forgot to say - I read your recommended posts. Great - and really useful. Thank you. I think now we are back to one NF I am going to try the watering the bottle down method. Looks like it has worked really well for other people with my problem!!

Thank you for your support x
