Title: Need a hug
Post by: anna* on March 31, 2012, 17:55:47 pm
Audrey has been on strike and it's been miserable. She had a feed at 4am, and then nothing until 11am when she had about 3mins, and then nothing until bedtime. She was so hungry, but every time I put her to the breast she just cried like I was doing something horrible to her, wouldn't even latch on. She couldn't nap well because she was hungry. We were both crying for a big part of the afternoon, I've just no idea what was up. DH gave her a bottle at 4.45pm and she guzzled the lot, perfectly happy. I was expecting her to refuse at bedtime but thankfully she took a decent feed and of course fell asleep nursing as she has barely slept all day.

Ugh. What are nursing strikes all about anyway? At least we don't have to worry about her weight, little monkey.

Hugs sweetie. E did this and it took me a while to realize she had reflux. Is this the case with A? I can't remember :-[

I know the frustration of trying to bf and the struggle and they happily guzzle a bottle. I get it. It sucks :(

More hugs - wish I had some more answers.

Hi! Big hugs to you Anna, I hope tomorrow she goes back to you without crying.
Have you tried nursing her with both of you lying in bed? It worked for me when DD1 went on a nursing strike.
HTH, hugs.

I'm really sure she doesn't have reflux. I really hope today was just a one-off (well, not a one-off because we have had the odd day like this before, but it's not *TOUCH WOOD* a common occurrence). It's just such a snub when she will happily wolf down a bottle (a bottle of my milk, mind you). Silly bunny.

I do have it on authority that silly babies on nursing strikes do like the bath and will usually nurse better there. It also saved some of my sanity because she loves water.

C did this on very rare occasions. Drove me to despair as she wouldn't accept a bottle. Thankfully these episodes were usually very short-lived and she has never refused a bedtime feed! Mind you at 16.5mos now, I'm waiting for her to!

Hugs Anna. :-*

Ah the bath is a great idea. Will have that one up my sleeve for next time.

No idea why they do it, but fingers crossed she'll be better tomorrow.  Could she have some teeth on the way that are making her uncomfortable, perhaps?

Any sickness, etc?  The only time James has ever refused feeds was this past Sunday when he was super congested.  How frustrating!

Thankfully it was a 48 hour thing. No idea what caused it. In the middle of the night I gave her Calpol and held her for 20 mins and after that she would feed. It seems to have past now (thank goodness), she had a couple of dry nappies which was quiet worrying. Kellymom says that the most important thing is to feed, and to feed from a bottle if they are refusing the breast, but I was really worried that all this was about expressing a preference for a bottle and that it may just make matters worse...

Giant hugs Anna. We just went through this a week or so ago when DD was congested. I know how frustrating it can be so hopefully you've seen the end of it!
