The pediatrician just gave me a sample of probiotics for DS2 who is EBF because I asked about green BMs with mucous. She couldn't give me a real reason why to or not to give them, so I am inclined to not, but thought I would check here. Anyone give their EBF LO probiotics? What is the benefit? I thought breast milk would have them naturally?

Yeah I was given them too in the first month. Pedi said they help avoid colic - no idea if it's true though. We gave them, didn't have any tummy issues but I don't know if it was just a fluke or not.

I don't remember when we started giving probiotics - I think we did occasionally after an illness, for example. yes bf has them but if anything has put off your lo's chemistry like a virus, or I would think even your own ph variance it could affect his flora.
I would not have a problem giving probiotics, it might not help but I also don't see much downside.

From my understanding your body just pees out what you don't need. We did them when ds was small too, not sure if they did anything.

My 10 week old DS takes probiotics. We were told (and from what I researched) is that it helps develop the healthy bacteria in his gut. He takes it in his bottle of EBF once a day. We have a lot of things going on (reflux, me having an OAL,) so I haven't noticed a huge difference but maybe it's helping?

Thanks! I will try giving them to him :)
