hey all!
some advice please!!!have FINALLY gotten my 5mo to sleep,2 hours after starting bedtime!she was TOTALLY overtired after missing naps etc today.wondering what to do re dreamfeed.usually, she's asleep by 7 or 7.30 pm &we do dreamfeed at 10.30pm. it's now 9.10pm.she's only asleep since 9pm.should i wait on a bit to do the dreamfeed? (im half afraid of waking her!!! ;) ) maybe do it at 11pm?what do ye think?
-
What time did you last feed her? If you fed her while you were trying to get her to sleep then she might be able to last a bit longer before her feed. However, is she as been very worked up, she might be hungry sooner than usual - perhaps you could feed her between 10-10.30, when hopefully she will be in a really deep sleep.
-
once again,BW site to the rescue!!!last feed was at 7.15pm.maybe i should stick to the usual 10.30pm so...?
-
I think I would. If she doesn't normally wake up during the df then you should get away with it.
-
k...thanks clazzat!normally easy enough to get her back down after dreamfeed,so will keep my fingers crossed!while i have you there, when did you drop the dreamfeed altogether?
-
Agree with Clare :) Good luck xxx

how do you guys know so much?! :)

I think I dropped it way too late with dd1 - she was 9 months before I was brave enough to try without it, but actually we had quite a lot of sleep issues from 6 months onwards (which was really unlike her) which with hindsight I think could have been related. I didn't do a df with either of the others - if they were asleep I was really not going to run any risk of waking them up!
I believe that from 6 months is a reasonable to time to start thinking about dropping it - once they are well established on solids they should be able to manage overnight.
-
Oh, and we don't really know so much - we have just btdt and can tell you what worked (or didn't!) for us.
-
you don't even realise just how much you know!!!
ya,will think about dropping it in the next month or so i guess then....she has been doing from 10.30/11pm to 7am from 8 weeks,so hoping it won't be too much of an issue.

Ooh that's great sleeping ;D I don't know a lot lol, just know what mistakes I made :P
Dreamfeed didn't work here. X
-
And if it doesn't work to drop it, just keep at it as long as you're still getting good nights. We dropped it around 7 mo with dd1, earlier with dd2 (when I realized it was upsetting her sleep) and not until 9ish months with ds.

good advice, thanks!will just have to play it by ear i guess!!!i'm beginning ot realise that's what parenting is all about though!!!& i LOVE my planning & organisation,so some major adjustments to be made by me!!! :)

wow, really?i wouldnt mind keeping it,as long as it's giving us our night's sleep!!!x

We only dropped the df when he stopped taking his daytime feeds as well.
-
that makes sense ya...she's growing up so fast!

I did things a little differently....
I never believed a BF child could go 12 hrs without taking a very decent 3 meals a day and mine weren't taking very decent meals till then (BLW). So, we dropped the 11am BF first of them all (fed 7am, 3/3.30pm, 7pm and 11pm) between 6-7mths in order to work on lunch solids, then the DF went only when lunch and teatime were big amounts of food at 10mths (down to 3 feeds) and the 3.30pm feed went at 12 mths or thereabouts.
Also did it differently because I was back at work early after both of them with no time/space to pump as such after the 6/7mth mark so it made "sense" to keep up 4 BFs a day this way and allowed me to sleep easy knowing they couldn't wake from hunger even if they did wake up.

shivi, that's really interesting...do you mind me changing my original threaad a little & asking for more advice?!i intend to start replacing breastfeeds with bottles once she turns 6months-in 2 weeks time.will also start her on little bits of solid aroudn then too.what way would you suggest doing it all? my current feeds are 7am, 11am, 3pm, 5.30pm & 6.45/7pm, then dreamfeed@ 10.30pm. no NW since she was 8wks old. am all muddled up as to what way to do things.don't want to change too much too soon!

Here is some info on dropping bfs in favor of bottles http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=157385.0
With solids, it's best to start with breakfast to allow time if there is a reaction. I moved to dinner about a month later and then lunch a month or two after that.
