Title: been bf my mspi dd for a year....when can I eat chocolate and cheese again??!
Post by: C&B&E on July 15, 2012, 20:22:01 pm
I NEEEEEEED ice cream, chocolate and cheese!!!!  I've been off dairy since E was 3 weeks old, and I've been fine for such a long time, and yet all of a sudden I am *totally* sick of my ED.  I've been off all hidden dairy and I was wondering when I can start reintroducing it.  The dietitian advised doing a dairy trial for E (introducing small amounts of yoghurt over a couple of weeks) some time over the next few months, but her sleep is still so unsettled that I am waiting until things are more stable.

But, do you think it will cause a problem if I reintroduce hidden dairy?  Or what sorts of things should I continue to avoid?

I've been given some formula for her but it is so disgusting she will not entertain even drinking it!

Thanks x

I started reintroducing dairy to my diet when dd2 was 10mo and she mostly coped fine. I tried not to go overboard :P I think I was down to 2 feeds by a year so I guess she was getting less dairy thru me then...At about 13mo she became v constipated again and I did cut back on my dairy, but overall she was fine. You never know til you try ;)

I've never worried too much about hidden dairy in my diet, although I've been pretty careful about it in x's, but I have been dairy-free for over a year now too and I feel your pain! I have been wondering when I could start having dairy again, and earlier this week I had some chocolate biscuits - x was up screaming for 2 nights (and started one of those days at 3.20...) and apart from that has sttn for the last 2 weeks. I'm inclined to think that it must be linked so I am holding off again for the time being.

We didn't realise that e was mpi until she was 18 months, and she didn't get dairy until about 2.5 - I figure that actually I am going to wean x long before he is able to tolerate dairy on his own.

In the mean time, I can get away with dark chocolate (there are quite a few which don't have any dairy products at all and others which don't seem to bother x), and sheeps cheese (manchego and Roquefort are reasonable substitutes for the time being). I haven't found an ice cream substitute though, and I really miss it.

thanks girls  :)

I tried a bit of dairy on holiday - a few licks of ice-creams, a couple of bites of cake and I think it did affect her so I stopped again.  Will try again next month to see if it was a coincidence.

Clare - have you tried frozen banana 'ice-cream'?  Just freeze some peeled, ripe bananas and then whizz them up in a blender, with added peanut butter or cocoa powder.  Really nice as a dairy free treat.  You can make it and freeze it again to make it more like ice-cream.

In the mean time, I can get away with dark chocolate (there are quite a few which don't have any dairy products at all and others which don't seem to bother x),

Yes, I can demolish a whole bar in one sitting...a big bar  :-[ :-[...but all the time craving dairy milk  ::)!

There is nothing quite like a dairy milk, is there? :P

Might try that banana ice cream - sounds good (although not with peanut butter, yuck! ;D), and the girls might like it too.
