We used mesh feeders with DS when he was little...I think that's similar to what you're describing.  I would put in chunks of fruit or veggies that he couldn't handle eating on his own (he had some trouble with solids).  So, things like grape halves, apples, plums, etc.  It was also good for when he was teething and he could mash up cold food.  Helped his gums feel better. HTH!

yes we use one too happy!

you can pretty much put anything in it, I've put cooked brocoli, raw fruits, anything really and it doesn't have to be mashed, your LO will suck the juices out and munch through it.

If your LO has lots of teeth or at least is pretty good with mashing food up with her gums, you could put in things like apple slices, chunks of melon.  Otherwise, you could go with softened food.  I mainly did raw fruits and veggies with the mesh feeder because I would have just fed him mashed/softened food with a spoon.  Sounds like the kind you have would do better with softened food.  Overall, just have fun with it! :) It's a great way to give them new foods that they otherwise wouldn't be able to eat on their own (e.g. my DD can't mash up canteloupe well enough to swallow it without choking, so we'll put that in the feeder for her).  Plus, it gives you some time while they play with/eat their food on their own.  I used to clean up the kitchen when DS was using his :)
