Title: Easily constipated?
Post by: MakingMischief on October 13, 2012, 23:48:32 pm
My 31 w/o little boy has been on solids since he turned 6 months, but he seems to get constipated VERY easily. I've cut out bananas and apples completely (no small feat since they're in a lot of purees), and when we do give purees, everything is pear-based. I very rarely give cereal, either.

He is mostly BF during the day (around 5 meals) with three meals of solids. I always give water with his solid meals, and he usually takes a couple ounces. He gets the occasional DF bottle of formula as well.

He regularly goes a few days between BMs, but as long as it's still soft, I don't worry. But sometimes he'll end up straining and crying and when he does pass a stool, it'll be small and hard. It makes me worried since it happens so often (at least once a week).

Is this normal, or could it be medical, or...?

Could just e adjusting to solids, some Los are more sensitive than others.
Have you tried a bit of diluted prune juice in is water, or mixed with solids?
If your concerned I would pop by the drs to just rule out anything more medical, even if its just for piece of mind KWIM? S x

My LO also has these issues. My Dr told me to not give her prunes because it is high in fiber. Which I thought was good but he told me it was too much work for her intestines.

Good luck.

Diluted prune juice in pear should be ok though I would think? Full strength not so much I agree ;)
Have you considered probiotics?
