Title: BF before Bed Time with a 9 Week Old
Post by: theu.s.lees on November 11, 2012, 16:22:03 pm
Hello! My 9 wo DD is mostly BF with an occasional bottle of EBM here and there. She does fine during the day, but struggles at the BT feeding. I have been trying to CF her around 5, 7 & 8:30/9. However, at the last feeding it is like she will only take the breast while the easy milk is coming out, she won't keep working for the hind milk (which is so important!). I have tried massaging my breast while nursing to help push milk down and everything, but she gets frustrated. I end up switching sides and if she's still acting hungry, giving her a bottle of EBM. I could be reading her hunger cues wrong, but its hard to tell sometimes!

Thanks, in advance, for any tips/advice!

It could be that by the time you're getting to 8.30/9pm that she's either windy or just so tired that she doesn't want to stick around long.  For about how long is she feeding before she gets frustrated?

She's nursing about 5-7 min on each side. She's pretty quick eater, but not that quick. I usually work hard to get a burp out before putting her back on the same side, but it's like she's done with that side!

I'd most likely go with her flow and if she seems done, switch to the other and see what happens.  It could be the frustration is a "hey, mummy, I'm finished here" rather than "urgh, I can't be bothered trying any harder" IYKWIM?
