Not sure am i posting in the right place?
Am i supposed to stop sterilising bottles&food
pots now that DD is 1?
-
I remember my HV telling me that once they're mobile and eating stuff off the floor there's not much point in sterilising anymore ;)
Think I stopped around 8/9 months , hth

Lol!thanks hun!DD is constantly showing us up by picking up
bits of fluff etc fromthe floor&waving them at us,before
poppingthem in her mouth!

If you use formula the bottles and teats still need sterilized as the bugs from the formula can be dangerous and need to be properly cleaned etc. It's what the WHO recommend. I cant link on my phone but there is a sticky on bottle feeding
-
Thanks hun,i'll go have a root!
We are gradually swapping formula for cows milk atm.x

Happy, if you are using bottles with the cow's milk I suggest continuing to sterilize the bottles. Bottles have so many nooks and crannies making them harder to clean where as sippy cups are very easy to clean in comparison.
I continued to sterilize all milk bottles and teats until he stopped using them and took his milk in a cup. For us that was 13 months.
Kids DO pick up everything from the floor and crawl everywhere but like Shiv said sterilizing is the recommendation.

I used the dishwasher with sani-rinse from about 6 months... Before that, scalding water in the kitchen sink (our tank is 140C so comes out of the tap really hot!). I used a bottle brush that had a scouring action to break down the biofilm that can form...

So then i should continue to sterilise bottles but the
spoons&bowls etc that i use for her food are ok?
It doesnt bother me doing the sterilising-just don't
want to be doing something i shouldnt,or not doing
something i should!i spend my life second guessing myself!

Yes, these are fine without sterilising, just wash in your usual way with your other dishes. Sippy cups, or doidy cups, open cups these are all fine to be washed as normal too.
I bought a couple of straw cups when I was ditching the morning bottle (he took more milk from a straw than a sippy and that milk intake was still important for us) but quickly realised they could trap milk like a bottle and personally felt they ought to be sterilised - so I moved to those regular disposable straws instead. A bit of extra land-fill, but no need to sterilise (we tend to throw some but others get a wash then move to the craft cupboard for counting, colour sorting, threading, making etc).
I must say, although sterilising isn't a bother, it's still really nice to be able to ditch it, one less job in the day :)

Should have said-I was still put bottles, teats etc in dishwasher
