Title: 9 month old NW is it teeth, cold or developmental or me
Post by: Haribo2012 on February 19, 2013, 10:28:30 am
Hi I'm hoping for some help and someone to tell me I'm not rubbish at this!
My 9 mo was a really good night sleeper generally 6.30-6.30 but since 7 mo it's all gone a bit wonky, he went through the trying to sit up and crawl phase and got sort of back on track but we've had the odd waking ever since!
At the minute things have got awful, he's got tooth number 4 on way got his top 2 first and bottom 2 last, he's had an ear infection followed by a bad cold, and he also loves to furniture cruise!!
He's now currently waking anytime from midnight onwards and crying out, often sat up or stood up! We've used PU/pd in past but now just trying pd but he always has arms up so I just cuddle and lay down but he won't stay the min I leave the room screams again! Found only was can get him back off is nearly rocked fully to sleep which I hate as he's always self soothed since 4 mo!

Our easy is a bit anyhow but yesterday
18/1
WU 5am apop till 6 then in crib WU 6.25
Ff 6.45 solids 8
Nap 9.55
Up 11.15
Solids 12.15
Ff 2pm
Nap 2.45 (took 10 mins to nod off) woke after 20 mins apop until 4pm tried putting down but kept waking so gave up to get nap!
Solids 5pm
Bath 6, ff 6.30
BT 7 took 10 mins to get to sleep as kept standing!

Woke 3am quick cuddle and rock and back asleep until 5!

We've been away at in laws too so not sure if that's not helping either!!

Any advice would be great, I have threads on the naps board too.

Thanks

Goodness, you have a lot going on!

If he was a good sleeper, I suspect that all the other things are causing him to have some trouble right now.  Have you tried any meds for teeth?  Do you notice a difference if you do?  Is he still congested/coughing/etc or is the cold totally cleared up now?

Are you back home now and trying to get back to your regular routine?
For what it's worth, it's definitely not you.  :)

Hi, tried calpol and ibuprofen and have made bit of difference! Cold thankfully is clearing up and last night only woke once standing up but didn't have to rock him just sat him down so feel a bit more like the cold wasn't helping!! Can definitely see tooth number 4 now so think cold and tooth must've been main culprit!!
Was so worried I'd put him back to bring a dependant on me sleeper by rocking him and letting him sleep on me but I guess when he's tired needs must!!

Were back home but have had to have a couple of car sleeps due to visiting people but I've tried to make them well over an hour journey and early BT to try and catch up!

We move home next sat so I'm sure that will put us back and there will be some short naps and broken nights! Trying to time removal men with a nap hasn't proved do able lol!!

Thanks for your reply :-) x

You sound like you're doing great, despite the craziness going on right now!  If he was an independent sleeper, he will get back there once all the other craziness settles down.

Do you think we do wrong rocking him back to sleep and sometimes sitting in his room with him in our arms at the 5am wake up? I don't fancy starting my day then and he doesn't seem to respond to PU/PD at that time of day!!
Last 2 days he's wide awake at 5..

If he's wide awake at 5 AM, you may need some more A time during the day -- normal range at his age is all the way up to 4 hours.  5 AM was always "do whatever it takes so we all don't have to be wide awake" time in my house though so I wouldn't worry about it.
