DD2 is 15m old next week. She has always had low A times for her age. We had been doing well with this EASY until recently:
745: A
1045: S
1115: A (wake her up)
3: S
4:45: A
8:15ish: S
But in the last week we had a couple of days where she refused the AM nap or catnapped the PM nap. So I decided we should just push to one nap and hope she got on board. For the last 3 days we have done:
6:45ish: A
12: S
6: aim for bed but she has slept between 615/7, usually with trouble
The first day she woke at 120. DH was on his own so couldn't help her, got her up. The second day she woke at 140 and I nursed her until 2 when her sister came in and woke her.
Today she woke at 1235. I patted her and she went back. Woke at 130. I nursed her and she slept until 230.
It's not feasible to APOP her for every nap since I'm often not here. That and I'd really rather not be in the habit of it. But I'm not sure what else to do. She's a mess in the afternoon if she only gets a short nap.
For completeness sake, our nights are also a mess. Last night she was up 4 or 5 times. She has never STTN. She has done better in the past when I sleep in the basement and send DH in there and I'm going to start doing that again tonight.
Any thoughts?

I would give it more time to see how it pans out...like a week or even 10 days to see how she settles into it. Unless the sh!t hits the fan in terms of nw/ew/ot disaster of course ;). I would totally have your DH do the settling if it works better, mine handled DD1 as she responded so much quicker. Must try that again with E and see if it works. I wore earplugs so I would not be tempted to get up and "help" him.
-
Can you put her down any earlier for the nap? G was a low A time, HSN guy and started with his nap at 11:30am (around 15/16mo). He reliably slept 2.5hr most days at the beginning, every once in a while 3. I don't think he made it til 12pm until closer to 18/20mo.
-
Both good ideas. We will stick with this for a while and hope
She gets the hang of it.
Katie good point. I'll try 1130 tomorrow.
Up at 630 today. Down at noon. Woke at 120 and I APOPd until 145 and she wouldn't go back then. Sigh. DH was in charge from 11 until 630 and said she woke a lot. Welcome to my world! Hopefully she will get back to 1 or 2 NWs once she's not getting the boob lol.
-
Ugh, you still have lots of NW/NF? We do too... well, usually two, but sometimes three. :-[ Waiting for a couple more teeth to cut through and then hoping to get rid of them! :P
-
Yeah we can be up to 5! Trying to crack down with her getting daddy for most of them. He just isn't the same. :)
We will sleep one day right?
-
Yes, you will! We had nf's up until 9/10 months and then the nw's....hmm cannot remembered when those (mostly) stopped...Christmas maybe. Brain cells have not recovered from the sleep deprivation quite yet ;)
-
Heidi are you sure it ever will?! I can't imagine a non-sleep deprived brain lol
-
Haha! Not I'm not...I just really hope so! My Keurig is my best friend since having a third :P
-
LOL, it's so true, isn't it?!? I don't even think the caffiene helps any more, but I can't manage without a steaming, hot cup of coffee in the morning. I do hope my brain recovers one day, but I too am skeptical. So glad to know we're in good company! :D :-*
-
Yes I cannot function before coffee in the morning and I can't get through the day without it!
So we are 3 days into the 1130am nap trial.
Day 1:
645: A
1130: S (into the crib pretty awake)
1:45: A
All by herself - I was singing Katie's praises! ;)
6:20: S with no trouble
Day 2:
6:45: A
11:35: S (95% asleep while nursing before nap)
12:55: A, went up and nursed her and she fell asleep again
1:40: A
6:30: S with a major battle
Today:
6:10ish: A (and mad about it, it was a super bad night - teeth I think?)
11:25: S (pretty much fell asleep again while nursing)
1:20: A, wouldn't go back
Thoughts? Just stick with this for now? Tweaks?
-
I would stick with it...a 2 hr nap is pretty good to start the 2-1 and may lengthen with time. I think DD2 eventually got into 2.5/3 hr naps (cannot remember with DD1 and DD3 never took longer than a 2 hr nap unless ill, now we cap them). Fx the teeth don't give too much grief - molars?

Ok, that's my hope as well. She's just such a mess by bedtime some days. Sigh. But I think we will get there. I am going to have to stay home with her tomorrow evening while the others go to a bday party - for a 5 yo, at 6PM! WTH? G goes to bed at 630 still so she's going to be tired but she can handle it once in a while these days. Seriously who has a party at that time for little kids? There's a 3 yo brother there, too! Argh.

I think so. She only has 4 teeth - hasn't gotten a new one in almost 8 months?!? But she has huge bulges both where the eye teeth will be and in the back for the molars. So I bet that's it. I didn't get home from work until 2 last night. DH said she was up a ton but he didn't give her motrin. Will change that tonight! She is just the slowest teether ever. Definitely can't be helping the nap adjustment.
-
Ugh, teething sucks! Poor girl hope the meds help her out. E pops teeth in groups...first 2, then 4, then 6...she has 8 left and I am worried they will all come at once!
That is a late party - I think Masyn only had a party that late in the fall (so 8 year olds!).
-
Totally agree with all of it... that is a stupidly late party! ::)
FWIW, Claire had only her front four teeth and then got molars at 15mo. She was also a really slow teether. Hope the Motrin helps!!
-
Yes teething is the worst! About to dose some advil and try to get her down Fingers crossed
-
Fx!
-
Asleep (I hope!) at 635. Lots of fussing but I sat outside the door and talked to her but never had to go in. So a middle of the road BT. :)
-
Not going well here. :(
She has not taken more than 90 min for nap. I tried moving up to 1115, since she is so tired, but it doesn't change. Just now she slept 1h15, actually, and I managed to nurse her for another 30 min but that was that. Going down ok for bedtime (around 6pm) about 50% of the time, the other 50% is a battle.
Nights are horrible. Up every 90 min-3h. I know teething is a part of it but it doesn't seem to change when we give her meds. If DH goes in there it doesn't seem to decrease the frequency.
I am exhausted and over it. :(
-
(((Hugs))), transitions and teething are rough, huh?! Can you throw in a 2 nap day to catch her up?
-
Can you throw in a 2 nap day to catch her up?
I thought about that, too. Hmm. I work tomorrow evening so DH won't be able to handle that. Probably should've skipped the APOP today and tried for a second nap. Darn it. Maybe I can do it Friday, though.
I'm also on my own for 5 days while DH goes snowboarding this weekend. Grr. Usually my mom comes to help when he's OOT but can't this time. So I keep thinking even if I manage to get the nights better by some miracle, it's all going to go to hell again when I'm on my own. :(
-
Ugh... that's a lot of nights. I regularly do 3 when DH travels for work and I'm spent at the end. We'll be here to hold your hand and listen to you moan if nothing else! ;) :-\ :-*
-
It is! And I'm not used to it at all. Since DH is home with them I don't routinely have all 3 on my own, and dealing with baby all night and all 3 all day - eek!
-
Get yourself a bottle of wine and a treat and try to go to bed early (I often end up staying up too late, as it's the only me time I get, but then regret it in the morning ::)).

Exactly! :P
