Title: Urgent question - update pg 2
Post by: Mattsmummy on February 22, 2015, 14:12:25 pm
Ok my nap dropping 3.7 year old DS who is sick (although you wouldn't know it) slep from 7pm to 5:15am. He is OT so should I apop a car nap or go EBT? There is no guarantee he would sleep in the car. What time for EBT?

His sleep has been awful of late due to tonsil issues and breathing obstruction. Any ideas? Tia

Maybe try a midday car CN and if he doesn't do it, EBT?

If he naps how early should I go?

I guess it depends how long nap is?

My ds needs to go to bed at no later than 6 if he has a no-nap day, and often nearer 5.30 (same age as yours).

Yes I'd say 530/6.

so I managed to get him into his bed about 6:15 sound asleep. He woke up at 10 and 3 for a short time each and then up for the day at 5:50am.

He is just so OT and I can't seem to get him caught up. The medical stuff is just making it worse.

Should I set his BT at 630?  That realistically is the earliest I can do it.  or continue to go with wake up/nap if he has one....

Personally I would get rid of the nap...easier for him to regulate and easier for you to plan your day/work etc. obviously if he is sick then that might change but no nap days would be my aim at this age

I'd get him to bed as early as you can manage, without driving yourself crazy.

LO2 who is only 2.5 has decided she doesn't nap any more, and she's doing 6.30pm to 7.30/nearly 8 am at the moment.  If it's any later than 6.30, she's cries out, and is restless.

Posted with Becky - i know the nap is a bone of contention with nursery but it might be easier to skip it altogether, at least then they wouldn't be expecting him to sleep, iyswim!

Yep, I agree. Most days he doesn't nap, I'd say 4 out of 5 days are NND. Only recently since he's been unwell that he's taken a nap. I think I will aim for 630/645 and hope for the best. I wish I could get him past 530 wake ups. Would love to get to 630 - that would be perfect. Wishful thinking I think.

Ok I'm really at my wits end. Dad was asleep by 645 last night. NW at 1230 and then up again at 530 :-\
No nap yesterday. Can anyone offer some advice? I feel like we have no routine and it changes everyday except for the 530 wake up.

So tired...

Mmmm, are you sure he is OT honey? My DS at that age needed only slightly more than 11 h per night, with no nap, with many 10.5 h nights compensated by 11.5 h nights. He also nap dropped at 3.5 yo, then he had 3 days with 12 h night, then 11 h as average since then. At 5 yo he is now at 10.45 h.
If it is the case, then you need to shift bt later, to avoid 5.30 am wu.

I have to add that also a single nap in the day, or a resting time during the nap time (at preschool, he also had to lie down for nap even if he did not sleep) shortened the night of at least 30 mins. So we had more 10.5 h nights during the preschool period.

Good point. I might consider moving bt later. Just so confused

Sorry, I didn't want to confuse you. Just IME we sometimes tend to have higher expectations in sleep because seeing other children. The fact that some children sleep 12 h in 24 h at 3.5 yo does not mean that all children need so much. Mine never did... ::)

Oh no problem!
M just has never really slept 12 hours. Very rarely.
He is normally between 10-11 hours.  His health right now is not the best and we are dealing with that at the mo as well so I know his sleep quality is not great which makes me think I should get him to sleep longer to compensate but it doesn't seem to be working.
He was asleep last night at 6:45 and up for the day at 530.

He won't nap today I'm sure so what time should I do BT? It's also too cold here for the kids to go outside so he's got pent up energy as well.

ugh...still pre 6 am wake ups here. doesn't seem to matter what time he goes to sleep. I think I should just accept that he's an early riser and stop trying to change it.

It would take a while for his WU to shift, hun.  You'd need to be consistent with the new BT for a few days at least.  And if he's under the weather, things are going to be a bit screwy.

^^^ This. When something bothers F, he has some ew in a row. He tends to go in periods, so periods of short nights followed by periods of longer nights, and more when he was younger than now.

So, no nap yesterday, asleep at 7:45pm awake.....6:55 am!!!!

What the???

I don't know what happened but I'll take it!

I just hope it continues. I'm guessing with a 7am wakeup, aim for 8pm bedtime with no nap?

Neck glands still swollen, short restless nights and absolutely painfully deplorable behaviour. Still no referral. Should I go back to Paed?

Yes, and if they don't act promptly, I would take him to urgent care or somewhere else where you can be seen.

Poor DS and poor you :(
