Title: 3.5yr old changing sleep needs...?
Post by: rachsk8 on April 23, 2015, 01:22:42 am
Hi all,
My 3.5yr old has recently started aleeping less and just wondering if it's a phase or I need to try and encourage more sleep? I realise all kids are different, and his moods are pretty much as you'd expect a 3.5yr olds to be I guess (haha)... He's doing between 10.5hrs-11.25hrs of late with no nap, he dropped that last year and hasn't even had a car nap since about January. I find of he does do a longer night then thr next night is particularly short. We have a set bedtime of 7pm. Just curious what others similar age are doing.

Well DS1 is now 3 yrs and 4.5 months, and definitely his sleep needs are changing. He still naps, but he's skipping it more and more often. Just this week if he does nap he pushes his bt out much later, he never did that before (at least not as drastically). So yes, I vote for sleep needs changing at this age! (We gotta drop our nap, I KNOW that  ;D)

I also want to know what other LO's this age are doing at this age. DS1 fights an eBT  when he skips his nap, so even on nnd's he's only sleeping 11 or so hours at night (ugh; he does occasionally sleep in and extra 15 min, but not often)

E hasn't napped for over a year, but recently she has started falling asleep later at BT too. She tends to doze off around 8pm now, during the week she has to be up at 7 but we do let her lie in a bit at the weekend. This suits is and she is pretty contented most of the time and she won't do EBT even in the car nowadays so this works for us.

My DS is 3 yrs 7 mos old and averages around 11-11.5 hrs sleep in a 24 hr period.  He has always been LSN/ASN.  He still naps at pre-school 5 days/week for about an hour; he falls asleep at BT around 9 pm and wakes around 7 am.  On the weekends he either has a short car nap if we are out and about in the afternoons or he has a NND; he goes to bed about 1 hr earlier on NNDs.

This summer he will only be at pre-school 2 days/week so my goal for the summer is to drop that nap! :)
