Title: Stretching nap 9 weeks old. Please, please help.
Post by: Mummytotwo2016 on March 24, 2016, 10:20:37 am
Hi all, I have posted before without relpy :-\ so trying again. I have been doing the EASY routine with my 9 week old since 3 weeks. We are really struggling with naps - he goes down with a dummy and swaddled, but he always wakes 30/40 and is hard to settle again. Once settled he will continue to wake every 10 minutes. Where have we gone wrong? How can I get him to take the full nap?

Can you post your day out so people can see your routine with wu time and A times etc.

A lot of babies can't transition between sleep cycles by themselves and so will wake at the 40 min mark and need help to go back to sleep or just don't (like my 17wk old). Hopefully you just need a routine tweak though.
How does he go to sleep? By himself or do you have to rock etc?

Are you missing a nap in here? If not, this is a really long time for a LO this age to be awake and likely he's OT hence the 30min nap.

Also, I noted on one of your other threads that you have a timer on the white noise - best for white noise to be continuous so LO knows nothing's changed since he went to sleep and its safe for him to go back to sleep.

You may find a touch more A time helpful - these little newborns 'wake up' at different ages, so if he's an early bird in relation to getting out of that sleepy newborn phase, he may like a little extension of A time - have he ever slept a nap longer than 40min? Having said that, he may just struggle to transition from sleep cycle to cycle in which case sneaking in just before he's likely to wake and shushing/patting may help. I'd probably try keeping the white noise going and then just sneak in and watch him through that transition time. Its much easier to resettle when you catch him early before he's worked up and screaming.

How are you feeding?
