So my 5 month old lo just started to roll over onto his side or belly to sleep at naptime. I know they say it's ok at this age but it still worries me a bit as he often wakes struggling. One day I put him in crib awake and he rolled over into his side and fell asleep which was great and slept well too! But the past few days he's struggling where he rolls over onto belly and is struggling I think to get onto his side. He'll wake crying and I have to go in to reposition him. This can happen a few times during a one hour nap. Any advice?

I couldn't even get him to sleep more than 20 mins today because he wakes and moves all over the crib. Today his leg got stuck!

Just lots of practice when he's awake, I remember this well with my first took a week or so before he got used to it.

Yes that's what I've been doing but I still have a tired cranky baby here and it's only 345! Lol

Developmental stuff is just a pain. He will get it, maybe go for a walk or drive and get another quick nap inx

I pretty much have to hold him until he's asleep before I put him in crib because otherwise he can't fall asleep because he rolls over and can't roll back. So all of the work we did on sleep training and putting down awake went out the window as well as any good nap. We are back to 3 20 min naps!!

We used safe-t-sleep.
It positions the baby on their back so that they cant roll & get stuck.
DD had it from around 4 months to around 11 months.
Google it 😊

I just feel bad if he's more comfortable and wants to be on his side but I think I might need to get that because he's barely napping. Are they safe? I thought they didn't suggest a product like that but I'm desperate. Yesterday he took only 2 20 min naps!

Afaik the recommendations (here at least) are nothing in the crib, no bumpers, no positioners and no blankets. Just baby in a sleeper and sleep sack (if needed depending on the room). We worked really hard in the daytime on those rolling skills...DD1 started sleeping on her tummy at 4 months.

Read up on it & decide what you think. And whats reccomended where u are 😊

Not recommended :( he did nap today on his belly which was great but naps are still all over the place. He usually goes down about 2 hours after waking in morning and some days he'll sleep 30 mins and yesterday he slept for 1.5 hrs! Next nap is usually about 2.5 hours after waking and today he slept for almost 2 hours!! That was a a first. It was tough though because he slept from 1215-2. So it was still a long stretch until bed. Some days hell just do 3 20-30 min naps. Is there anything I can try to get some more predictable naps?

That really good progress! Hopefully his naps are settling a little.
Those A times do seem a little short for 5 months. My DD had a big transition at this age and moved from 3 to 2 naps. It might be time to start moving the A times back. If i were you id post on the EASY board and see if you can get any advice about tweaking the routine x
