Title: 9 month old won't breastfeed well at bedtime
Post by: CbabyJ on November 03, 2017, 23:29:27 pm
My LO is very distractable and will only feed in complete quiet, in dim light and when he's just woken up even when he hasn't fed in hours.
Now it's at the point where he won't even feed well before bed, I switch sides many times to try get him interested, I sway him in very dim light etc
Any tips?
All this doesn't help the fact that he wakes 2-3 times a night to feed

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Are things still the same?

Any teeth cutting?

What about trying a nursing necklace for distraction?

I feel like he's always teething but I don't see any actual signs of new teeth in his mouth.
Almost complete darkness and swaying him for a while before bed seems to calm him a little. Then I keep switching sides to ensure he gets something.

He needs this feed - my first weaned the bedtime feed at 11 months but he ate solids like a horse and slept 12 hour nights so I was never worried!

Given he's probably a bit OT at BT, this could be part of it. I think some of the NWs will stop when the routine is more suitable too.

WRT supply at BT, it can be a bit lower so making sure you have an extra glass of water in the afternoon and try to get a bit of a rest in (hard with a toddler and a baby, I know) can help. It could be worth cluster feeding through the last A time too.
