Title: Loves solids - not milk .........
Post by: sissy16 on July 31, 2005, 20:26:44 pm
Hi, my ds is 6 months old and has been on solids for a while. Just wanted some advice really, he has three solid meals a day plus a bit of cereal before bed (on advice of health visitor) but is not keen on his milk anymoe except at night !!!! He messes on every feed in day (still breastfed) yet is fine at night with no distractions and wakes at roughly twice a night for milk. Any advice an how to get him to take more in day and less at night, do I need to reduce solids so he'll take moe milk - which is most important?

If he still isn't interested in nursing, I'd say that you might consider reducing his solid intake. Without a doubt, breastmilk is more important than solids, and that should still be his main source of nutrition for several more months. He may be waking out of habit or for comfort during the night, but it's hard to know for sure. Cut back on the solids and see if that helps at all. Good luck!
Title: refusing to nurse

My son is seven months old and has been refusing to nurse for almost a month!  He also LOVES his solids.  I've talked to a lactation consultant and several nurses.  I've tried EVERYTHING to get him to nurse (teething rings before hand, tylenol 30 minutes before, different positions, different wake states, etc.)  He, now, usually nurses morning and night, with the odd dreamfeed.  I put formula and water in his solids, so he is getting "liquids".  I'm trying to introduce a sippy cup, too.  The nurses have said that he's okay- just to monitor his "outputs" and monitor his weight gain. So far, he's been fine.

I am having the same problem with my 8 month old baby, Roman.  I had to wean him from breastfeeding because I have started a new job.  Now, he will not take formula from a bottle, or a sippy cup.  He screams if we even try to put the cup or bottle near him.  He is also getting his first teeth.  Is he refusing milk because he is teething and just not very hungry or is he protesting because he wants to breastfeed?  I am very worried about his nutrition.  Does anyone have any advice?
