Title: Do egg YOLKS contain protein too?
Post by: Erin (redstarfalling) on August 19, 2005, 18:45:41 pm
I always thought that just the whites had the protein and the yolks were mostly fat and stuff, but I read somewhere recently that egg yolks can be given as the protein part of a meal.  Anyone know for sure?

And does anyone know what nutrients avocados have?

(I'm feeding my dd whatever she'll let me but just wondering at the nutritional value of some of it... :? )
Thanks!

I just did a quick google search on the avocadoes, and found that they have the following nutrients (quite a bit!)

Vitamin K
Fiber
Potassium
Folate
Vitamin B6
Vitamin C

As for the eggs, yes the yolks have protein as well!

In the Super Baby Food book it says avocados are so nutritious that some claim humans can live on them exclusively. They have a high source of unsaturated fatty acids (that babes need for brain development) second only to olives.  :)  Dd loves them too... she'll eat them with absolutely anything!  I don't like them myself...

ok, found this on an egg website LOL

Yolk
Yellow portion of egg. Color varies with feed of the hen; does not indicate nutritional content. Major source of vitamins, minerals, almost half of the protein, and all of the fat and cholesterol.
