Title: Transition from 3hr to 4hr EASY?
Post by: jade's mum on September 26, 2005, 23:58:13 pm
My lo will be 3mths in a couple of weeks and I have a couple of questions about changing her routine from 3hr - 4hr EASY.....

1) When should I start changing her routine, are there signs or do you
just decide to start the transition?

2) How do you start the transition, is it by extending all the A times?
Currently, she seems to have a short A time after her morning wake
    up (45mins - 1hr) but with all other A times, she is doing 1.5hr - 2hrs,
infact she doesn't like going for naps after the first one, so many of the
afternoon naps are a struggle (up to 30mins to settle and fall asleep)
    and usually very short (45mins - 1hr)

I'd like to make the transition as smooth as possible, so any advice would be appreciated!

thanx

Hi.
If you don't have Tracy's Book - The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems...I definitely recommend it.  It goes into great detail on how/when and why.  :D

The 3-4 hour transition is recommended to start at 4 months.

Here are some signs of needing to transition:
1.  Not taking as much at a feed (baby not as hungry at 3 hours)
2.  Erratic Night Wakings
3.  They are extending their awake times
4.  Starts taking 45 minute naps

I would recommend slowly increasing her awake time, you can also check out this link:

Expect the days to vary at first.  For example, some days she might go 3.5...other times 4.

HTH  :D
