Title: Solids before milk or after milk
Post by: jennc123 on November 09, 2005, 21:20:37 pm
My ped mentioned to me that he wanted me to offer solids to bella before breastmilk and then offer the breastmilk, I didn't follow this advice and continued to do what i was doing, breast before solids, usually about an hour.  now that she is 8 months do i need to change this??  what have you all done with this?? :)

Sorry, I am no help, but I'm interested in finding the answer to this one. Although my dd is older, and she only gets bottle before solids as her first meal, the others are solids before bottle, but maybe I need to change that too, since she takes very little solids.

I think at this point, it's purely up to you. There's really no reason to switch it up. I did breast/bottle before solids until I started Tyler on whole milk at 1 yr. It's really just preference, since solids are supplemental nutrition until you start transitioning to whole milk.

This is what i was told (although not saying you should do this)

Breakfast - always milk first then food
Lunch - food then water
Mid aftn - milk
Tea time - food then water
Bedtime - milk

Id go with whatever your happy with tho, if you want to take the edge off the hunger first offer milk - unless your giving protein in which case no milk should be given as it reduces iron absorption.

Hope this helps x
