Title: How much should an 11 week old be taking
Post by: yaya on January 12, 2006, 09:29:25 am
As my little boy has been breastfed from birth it's hard to tell how much he takes. He used to feed for about 20mins but that has been cut down to about 10mins now. He refuses to take feed for longer. u have tried giving him a bottle and he took 5 ounces but had a really bad tummy and gren poo afterwards so I'm assuming it was too much for him??

It was probably the formula that upset his tummy?

They get really efficient. Try not to think about it in terms of "how much" but "how long". You know he is getting enough because he is happy and content, goes a while between feeds, and urinates enough.

My daughter only eats for about that long also. My cousin, who has had 2 babies in the last few years, said that they become more effencent as they get older. So that it is fine if they only eat for a few min. As long as they are still gaining weight and seem ok, then I would not worry about it.
