Title: Best way to darken a room
Post by: Lucysmom on January 13, 2006, 15:02:19 pm
Hi -

I already have curtains with black out lining in them but some light still manages to get in.  What is the best thing to put on the windows to stop light coming in?  I think I read somewhere about aluminum foil or something strange like that?????

Thanks!

he he he!!!

I read the aluminum foil trick on here, and used it myself.  My neighbors started asking me what it was for, and now you can tell ANY house in my neighborhood that has children!!!LOL

It doesn't look very nice from the outside, but honestly, not one single SPECK of light get's in!

I just used a regular old tube of aluminum foil, and some duct tape to secure.  (my house uses duct tape for everything! ).

Anyways, it made it SOOO dark that I actually ended up removing a couple of sections, just so that there was a bit of light.

Try it!!

If you can find the right size box you can cut out some cardboard so it fits in their snug and then tape or staple a handle to it so you can pop it in and out easily... :D   Along with a curtain to cover it up..wa la!!  You could even paint/marker, color the cardboard if you want to get real creative

Thanks for your advice ladies!  I guess I was not hallucinating about the aluminum foil!  That is too funny that you started a neighborhood trend Tonya!

I have lovely black plastic bags on her windows now as I got desperate.  They are working for now but I will keep your suggestions in mind if I need to do something more permanent.

Thanks again!
