Hi
Can anyone give me some advice? My ds is 9 months old and is not interested in putting anything in his mouth, let alone food! He's never really used his mouth to explore things - he prefers to use his fingers/hands to feel textures. I know there's no rush, but any tips on what I ought to do to prepare him for when he's ready would be appreciated. Should I keep preparing some finger foods to put on his tray during meal times in the hope that one day he'll catch on (at the moment, he just decorates everything in sight with his food), or would it be better to leave it for a few weeks and come back to it? He loves his food and we have no problems mealtime otherwise!
Any advice much appreciated!

I would deffo keep putting the food on his tray each meal time. Have shown him you eating the food off his tray? You prob. have tried allready but the thing that cracked my DS was when me and DH stood infront of his tray making lots of yum yum noises eating the bannana off it. Thank goodness no-one saw us through the window!! Does he eat the finger food if you put it in his mouth for him? I used to do this for DS untill he did it himself just so he knew how nice it was. Hey - thanks for the advice. Yes I have eaten his food off his tray/out of his bowl and done the "yum yum" thing. He just laughs at me! Still - that's good I guess, at least he's paying attention. I've not tried feeding him with my fingers actually - that might work - I'll definitely try it. I think the main problem with putting food on his tray whilst feeding him his normal meal is that he gets distracted by playing with the food and won't eat until I remove it (men can't multi task can they?!!!). I've thought of trying a type of exploring food play session (outside of meal times) just so he can play with it to his heart's content and get used to handling food, but I'm concerned I'll just confuse him. I'll keep persevering!

My son didn't eat finger foods at first either - and then we realized he didn't know that he was supposed to eat them! As soon as we started putting some into his mouth the wheels started turning into his little head and now I can't keep him from eating everything in sight!
