Title: Medications
Post by: aaronsmommy on January 26, 2006, 20:33:50 pm
I hurt my back and my doctor wants me to take 800mg of Ibuprofen twice a day.  I read somewhere that this may be harmful to my lo's heart.  Does anyone know more about this?  Any advice?

I've never heard about that anywhere.  As far as I know, ibuprofen is safe to take while breastfeeding.  You might want to check out this link:

Sorry to hear about your back!  What happened? :(

I was given Ibuprofen in the hospital after my C-section and continued to take for the pain once I got home (though I can't remember how much I took). It was the only thing they gave at the hospital and told me to take because of BFing. I was still concerned with taking it so I tried not to though this resulted in extended pain. I'm surprised to hear of the heart thing, where did you read this and what exactly were the details?

Sorry for going MIA on you.....things have been crazy around here.  Don't know what I did, but I am feeling MUCH better now.  Thanks for the insight.  I did take some, but didn't need to take too much before I was feeling like my old self again!

As for the article that I read, my dh can't find it again.  Sorry to alarm you, it must not have been too importnat if we can't really remember :(
