Just curious how often you all wash and/or sterilize your pump parts... I have some of those microwave sterilizing bags and it says to "rinse parts well" and then use the sterilizing bags. Is that right? They don't need to be washed first? TIA

I used a microwave steriliser (not the bags though) and I washed all the parts thoroughly first then rinsed then sterilised. And I washed it after each use.
Never used the bags, but I think I'd still wash the parts first.

I did the same as Schae... :)

Ok, my answer is a bit different. Sorry if you find this gross, but as I pumped everyday at work (3-5 times a day), I had to be realistic. I didn't wash between daily pumpings. I figured that bm was sanitary and if bottled bm could last 10 hours at room temperature, then my pump was not going to be exposed to "bad" milk. I washed the pump every evening in hot soapy water and let it air dry. I would sterilize only once on the weekends generally. My minimal approach never seemed to cause any problems.... HTH.

I used to express almost daily on my first as we did both breast and bottle. But i would wash all parts and then sterilize the pump after each use.
I used a cold water sterilizer as i could store the pump until the next use.
But here in the UK it is recommended that we wash and sterilize all equipment and bottles after each use.

I do breast and bottle and express 1-2 times per day. I wash thoroughly between uses, and then sterilize once a day.

I'm more like Melissa. I pump 3 times a day and cannot possibly sterilize after each use. I use hot soapy water and steralize once a week.

I use Medela Pump in style twice at work. I rinse phalanges (breast shields) in hot water after use and then in hot soapy water at home. The tubing....maybe once every one and then (like twice in lasat 4 months). I have Medela sterilizer bags adn used them all the time when he was young...now maybe once or twice a week. I did this same routine with DS and didn't have a problem. It is just too impratical to wash everything everytime.

My first avent pump went wierd, and when they replaced it, the Avent lady said you only need to wash it once a day and sterilise once a week. In between washes, you put the round stand thing on as a cap over the massage cushion, and screw the screw bottom thing on too. HTH.
