Can rice cereal constipate a baby, or is her system just adjusting? She hasn't pooped in a few days and usually there is something!
Any thoughts? ???
Thanks!

Well, it can be all of the above! Rice cereal and other iron fortified baby cereals are notorious for causing constipation. Tyler always did terrible with rice, so he always had oatmeal or barley baby cereal and we had much better luck. It could also be her digestive system adjusting to solid food, especially if she's younger than 6 mo. If you've offered rice cereal for a few days and haven't had any other adverse reactions, you might eliminate it for now and try something else until things get back on track. Pears are very easily digested and don't usually cause digestive issues, and you might do better with a different kind of cereal. HTH!

If she's getting enough bm/formula, I'd agree with Melissa and say that her body is probably adjusting. I know I was paranoid the first time ds went without a bm for more than a day, but it was completely unwarranted. Babies can go for several days w/o a bm.
The pears suggestion is a great idea. It will guarantee to 'move' things along, even if there were no problem. Also, oatmeal is a great idea. It's definitely good for the digestive system and, I personally believe, better than rice cereal.

Like the others said it could be the body adjusting or the rice. We had a hard time for the first month or so with solids and constipation. After a few days of the rice cereal I moved on to oatmeal because I hadn't seen a poop in days. The rice was definitely stopping my boy up. I would mix in the pear or apple (not applesauce though) in with the oatmeal if you wanted. I also started adding a little prune into the mix which helped. Where constipation is a concern you want to beware of banana, rice, applesauce as they are notorious for stopping kids up.
