My dd just had her 4 month check up and is 12 #. She had a little dip in her growth curve. She used to be between the 25th and 50th and now she is between the 10th and 25th. The dr. isn't worried, he said I just just don't want it to dip further. She hasn't gained any weight in the past 3 weeks-about 1-2 ounces. She feeds every 4 hrs, with a feed at 1030 and usually at 130. I top her off with 2-3 oz. at her7 pm feed. She seems content and happy. Am I overrreacting? Is this common for Bf babies?

This is exactly what happened at our 4-mo. appt. Savannah has dropped from the 75th to the 25th percentile (she was 12 lbs. at 4 months also) and the dr. said if it continued he wanted us to start supplementing. :-X
I googled "slow wight gain" until I couldn't see straight. ;) She is happy, but I don't want pressured to feed her more when she looks perfectly fine and happy to me.

Check her latch, make sure she's on correctly and you hear swallowing, and be sure she's getting hindmilk ~ I think I was stopping her feeds b/c I thought she was done. It's been three weeks, and I do think she's put on some weight.
HTH. :)

Just out of interest do you know if your doctors are used the up to date breastfed baby charts? See the sticky on the World Health Organisation charts. If they are using the older formula-based charts the pattern you are describing is common for many babies.

My thoughts exactly! Isn't it great that we have a resource to point ppl to now?

As the ladies said above using FF growth charts this is a normal pattern for a BF babies weight to follow and even if he was using up to date BF charts I still would not be concerned. Its quite common for there to be a slow down or even complete halt in weight gain aroung the 5/6months mark. Try not to worry , from what you've described she sounds like she is doing great!!!!

I can relate. My baby is 4 1/2 months and we just had our 4mo check up. She was 12lbs 8oz and she is 25 inches long. So she is a long and lean baby. I had been feeding her every 3 hours and that seemed to be going great. She wasn't demanding feeds more often than this. But when I saw that she went from 50th% to 25th% I got a little worried and have started to feed her a little more often. I think she would eat 24/7 if she had the choice as she never refuses to nurse. She is a great sleeper and sleeps 12-13 hours at night and takes 3 1-1/12 hour naps daily. I was wondering if this long sleep stretch with no feeds could have been affecting her weight gain? The doc is not worried although we are going back for a weight check in 1 month. Any feedback, suggestion, experiences are appreciated. Thanks.
