Title: Sauces
Post by: i-wei on May 27, 2006, 13:56:41 pm
DS is 17mths.  I would like to start giving him veggies for lunch rather than the usual bread with spread that he's used to.  I'm been trying for a few days now and finds that he just won't eat them plain.  I've put cheese sauce on them for the past 4 days but am stuck for recipes for other sauces we could try.  Can anyone help?

Thank you :-*

would he eat sweet and sour sauce with his veggies? My lo seems to like that. A very basic recipe is to mix the following together...

6  tablespoons white vinegar
1 tablespoon sugar or syrup
2  tablespoons soy sauce
6  tablespoons cornflour
1 (15  ounce) can pineapple chunks, undrained
1/2  cup pineapple juice

Heat, stirring continuously, for a few minutes until it thickens.

OR what about a ratatouille-type of meal? Lots of Meditteranean vegetables, in a chunky tomato sauce?

Hi,

have you tried tomatoe based sauces, or sometimes i just put a little bit of melted butter on my DD's veggies and it seems to do the trick!

For the tomatoe sauce i use

-tinned tomatoes/or whole roasted if you prefer
-small onion
-courgette
-carrot
once everything is cooked i blend it all togeather and usually have enough spare over to freeze for a later date!

HTH :) :)

This sounds SO groce and when I was pregnant I could barely stand it, but my toddler likes green beans dipped in ranch dressing or doused in vinegar!  She also dips her cooked carrots in ranch.  The clincher is yogurt and corn, I'm talking corn niblets mixed in yogurt!  (Gag!)  I guess whatever it takes to get them in her tummy!  :)
