Hi,
I was wondering at what age you put your lo's into their own bed?
You may think that this is a strange question for me to ask considering my DS is not even a year old yet, but DS is a very big boy, and am not sure whether he will still fit in his cot past the age of 18months.

I've been wondering the exact same thing.
Troy is 18 month and has about 8-10 inches clear headroom when he lays in his cot.
A friend of mine has a little girl, Eleanor, and she was in a junior bed with removeable side rails at around 18 to 20 months.
However Eleanor was very steady on her feet and could climb onto and off the bed easily.
Troy is pretty steady but I'm not sure he can climb down yet, climbing up isnt a problem :)
Guess I could cover the floor with cushions etc as a just incase ;)

We moved dd around 20 months as I wanted her to be well and truly out of the cot before ds arrived. WE tansitioned quite slowly, having the cot and bed in their together for the first 3 weeks so she could decide. She went back and forth for a while before she decided the bed was the way to go and then we removed the cot.

We did it when Tyler was almost 29 mo, and we probably would have waited even longer if we didn't have another kiddo on the way. He's always been tall and didn't have much room left in his crib, but he was comfortable and happy there so we let him be. It was an incredibly easy transition, maybe because he was older. IMHO, wait as long as you can!

We did it at 22 months because we had another on the way.
If I hadn't been pregnant, I'd have done it around 18 months when she was a little easier to go with the flow OR after she turned 3 and could understand things better. JMO

I think I'll leave my dd in the cot for as long as possible. DD is very tall for her age but she's in a cot bed & they tend to be bigger. As long as he isn't trying to climb out of the cot & he's comfy, I think you should leave him.
Just a quick question for you mom's who have already moved lo to a bed - how did your lo react to the extra freedom @ bedtime? Did you have problems with them not staying in bed? If so, how did you deal with it?

we moved Ryan at 15 months , he had associated his cot with pain after a really bad reflux flare up , he screamed soo much when he even saw his cot so we moved him to a bed.It went really well , we placed his cot mattress on the floor and a bed guard on just in case he fell out.Last month was the first time he fell out of bed , so not too bad.It was easier for us as Ryan wasn't walking , so couldn't get out of bed

DD was pretty good but she has always been a good sleeper. She went through a phase where she would fall asleep in front of the door every night and we would have to relocate her to her bed ::) but that only lasted about a month. Sometimes she would stand and bang on the door but we pretty much ignored it unless she started crying and then we would do wi/wo. until she either fell asleep in bed or on the floor. Now she pretty much stays in bed even if she is upset she just cries from the bed. No hassles at all really!!

Hi, we moved our dd into a big bed at 16months, cause she could climb out of her cot !!! :o :o :o :o
she walked at 10months and by 12 months was climbing up and down everything, so at 14 months we put her in her bed and used a side rail which we brought seperatly, she was fine (i think she was to scared to get out so she never did!!) we just did exactly the same bed time routine and put her in... i just packed the cot up so it wasn't around :) that worked for us :)

Dd1 went into a bed at just under 18mo. The bed was very low, and I also put a little step bedside it since I knew she would climb out (and I wanted her to be able to get back in). We also bought a guard rail. She was pretty good at night time, but during the day she did play around a bit for naps. But then she also used to just play around and not sleep in her cot either, so it probably didn't make much difference.

We moved Ewan at 2 years old and he actually slept better. He was always banging the sides of the crib and waking himself up and he wasn't even a really big boy ;D.
We kept our routine the same and PLACED him in the bed. He did even realize for a month that he could get out. Once he did he came out quite a few times at two naps and one bedtime but we just kept putting him back in and not saying anything. To this day he will lay in bed until we come to get him in the morning even if he wakes early ;D

my dd2 was 15 months but dd1 was 2.she had a bed on her 2nd birthday.

Charlotte was about 2.5 years when we moved her into a bed from her cot. We put her straight into a normal full-sized single bed rather than a toddler bed and she loves it.

We moved ds#1 at about 2yo & that went really well, we only had one night of problems. He still has a side rail as he moves around A LOT. We just did a longer wind down & he was fine. We put Ds#2 in the cot the night we moved Ds#1 out & he wasn't phased at all, he'd been napping on a mattress for weeks & was really excited as we had new sheets etc
ds#2 is off the charts height wise for his age (as tall as most of the 18-24 mo we know) & I know when we go away when he is 17mo it is going to be hard to put him in a pack & play as when ds#1 was that height he really didn't sleep well, as he was too tall.
So I'm thinking even though our cot is pretty big, we will transition him to a bed about that time... The way he climbs, I also think he will be climbing out in a month or too as well
I'm not sure our "trick" of a light on a timer saying it was time to get up will work if he is only about 18months, but just have to see

Can I ask has anyone moved their Lo from a cot-bed to the bed position ?
We have harry in the cot -bed at the moment, but a couple of times now I have gone in , he was standing with his leg stretched up over the bar :o
we will have to dismantle the cot-bed to the bed position, so I am worried if he is upset, I won't have the cot to fall back on ???
Also, we are moving in October so think I should do it sooner rather than later so its not too much upheavel.
All help really welcome .

Ciara has a cot bed. We removed the bars to make it a cot when she was 2. It's great she has tonnes of space still left to grow into ;D

We are going to have to do it this week whether I like it or not as my husband caught him climbing out again :o :o
He has been such a good sleeper , I hope it lasts now !!
