My twin 8 week old boys have always been a little fussy when going down for naps, but usually have been able to sleep for 1.5 to 2 hour stretches after being up for 1 to 1.5 hours (we are on 3-hour EASY). They have had a cold for the past week (phlegm at the back of their throats) and although the cold is slowly getting better, their napping and eating is getting worse. For the past two days, I am not able to get either of them to eat more than about half their regular feed (even first thing in the morning). Although I keep offering them the breast, they soon get frustrated/tired (?) and turn away from the breast, kick their legs and cry. Since I'm breastfeeding two of them, feeding can take upwards of 45 minutes, with A time in between for both of them, so I know that they must be tired by the end of it all. They then have a maximum of 10 minutes A time and then I swaddle them and lay them down, but neither Matt nor Luke can seem to STAY asleep for long, with both fussing within 30 minutes into nap time. I have been going back and forth sshhing them to try and extend their naps to the next feeding time so that they can get some recuperative rest and hopefully take in a full feed, but it's not working very well. Should I bottlefeed them until they are over their colds (in the hopes that it'll be easier and quicker for them to get the milk down without tiring them out so much)? Any advice would be very appreciated.

I may be wrong but I don't think bottle feeding will make much of a difference, my 7 week old has a cold at the moment and is being bottle fed. He is quite an unsettled baby at the best of times but he has only been taking a couple of oz at a time for the last few days and is waking from sleep frequently.

Hmm, another piece to the puzzle.
I pumped both breasts within a half hour of feeding the boys and barely got a half ounce out of each breast. Is it possible that is why they are crying? Either my milk is low or they are draining the breast at each feeding. I am worried it is the former, since they are eating for less time than usual and then they start crying.... Hopefully it's a growth spurt and they are efficiently draining the breasts?

8 weeks? Were they early? Sounds like it could be a growth spurt (and the cold on top of that). Take a look at this link for some thoughts/suggestions. Hang in there... this will pass and things will get easier again. Also, remember that the pump is not a reflection of your milk supply. Your babies are much more efficient!

Actually, there were a tad early, delivered by c-section at 38 weeks. Would that make them 6 weeks corrected, and then prime time for a growth spurt? Thanks for the links!

Sounds about right to me! Good luck! I know what a growth spurt with one is like, can't imagine what you are going through!
