Title: when to start solids
Post by: naunmom on July 21, 2006, 22:30:55 pm
dd is 5 months.  she has mild reflux - spits up a lot but no pain so not on meds.
she still can't really sit up yet ... i.e. slumps when we prop her.

she seems pretty curious about solids ... and i have let her taste an ice cube and watermelon and she appears eager.
have heard other mums say that babies really aren't ready for solids until they can sit up on their own.

dd is my second, but ds - my first - was an entirely different infant.  sat up early .. no spit up issues at all and showed signs of being interested in solids around 5 months but we waited until 5.5 months before introducing cereal.  My SIL started her ds on solids at 4.5 months ...

So ... I'm interested in hearing other moms' experiences ... thanks!!

Personally, I would definitely not begin solids until she can sit up, at least somewhat. And also I wouldn't begin without speaking to DD's doc/ped. first, especially since she has reflux.
