Title: Shortening Time at the Breast???
Post by: Shellha on August 12, 2006, 16:04:46 pm
My 13 wk old DS seems to have shortened his time at the breast over the last week or so. He used to take almost 20 mins to eat, but he now cries madly after about 10 mins and isn't interested in feeding anymore. He only stops when I sit him upright away from my nipple.

My question is - Is it normal for babies of this age (or thereabouts) to become more efficient at eating, therefore decreasing the amount of time needed to feed?

I had tried feeding from both breasts over the last week or so but he was getting too much foremilk and was subsequently quite ill.

Thanks

It is totally normal for babies to become more efficient.  Both my girls were dubbed "super suckers" since they rarely took more than 10 minutes to eat.  Look for signs of getting enough to eat: plenty of wet/dirty diapers. weight gain and general contentment

hope that helps

Thanks Rachel - will keep an eye on him but he seems fine! Definately LOTS of went and dirty nappies and he seems fairly content most of the time.

Super Sucker here we come!
