Title: When do you Drop D/F?
Post by: Shellha on September 10, 2006, 07:38:42 am
Just curious (as I am O/S and don't have my BW Book with me) - when is it advisable to drop the dreamfeed?

My DS is almost 4 months and seems to be taking less at his D/F but still wakes once during the night (between 3-4am) and then again for the day anytime between 6.30 and 8am.

He is a big boy at almost 7kg, loves his food, and seems to be 'waking in readiness' for his D/F over the last week or so.

Any advice on what is suggested, or your experience would be appreciated

It varies from baby to baby.... 4 months seems early though.

We didn't drop it till 11 months, but that is a little late according to most ;) I just wasn't willing to do it earlier as it was easier to feed before I went to bed then be up to settle him a couple hours later.

How many other feeds do you have?  I have 6 feeds (I cluster feed at night).  If I drop the df which I am planning on within the next month, that would take me to 5 which is where I think I should be at 6 months (5mths now).

I stopped the dreamfeed when I noticed that my son wasn't eating as much during the day.  I could tell that he wasn't as hungry as usual due to the fact that he didn't need those extra df calories.  He was about 5 or 6 months when we did that and had no problems.  However, he hadn't been waking in the middle of the night for a feeding for a while, so I'm not sure that your lo is ready just yet.  Good luck!
