hi there
I've posted on your allergy thread too so I won't say much here.
Hopefully you will find someone on these boards going through your experience but you could also try the La Leche League's allergy board to find more fellow breastfeeders:
http://www.lalecheleague.org/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=37&order=desc

or the promom 'ask the experts'
http://promom.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4278

I promise I don't always just give lots of links!

I hope you do look into the information offered, because I'm not so confident that your doctor knows what he's talking about.  The La Leche League people or an experienced lactation consultant would have more options available to you because it's their area of expertise.  Personally, I'm not sure that low allergy formula would actually solve your problem.  I, myself, would be really mad if I switched my baby to formula unnecessarily on a doctor's recommendation.  I really recommend calling someone with more expertise with special breastfeeding situations.

Just my two-cents worth...I hope everything gets settled down soon.

I'm on a milk free diet, have been for 9 months as dd has a milk protein allergy. The diet is rather extreme, no milk products, which eliminates so many foods because so much is made with milk and/or butter. For a milk protein allergy there is often blood in the stool, which my dd had for 5 weeks until they found out what caused it. Sometimes the blood is microscopic. I have a friend who's lo had reflex and was fussy (possible intolerance) when she had cheese and milk but was fine when she ate foods made from butter or milk so she didn't have to limit her diet too much. If you are suspecting a MSPI get your lo checked out first before making the jump to formula as once you stop bfing you can't really go back. If it is a MSPI your lo is still much better off bfing as the formula is expensive and tastes awful from what I hear. The ped that I dealt with at the hospital about the allergy highly recommended that I continue bfing instead of switching to formula (which I wasn't considering anyways) and I'm very glad I did.
