This is a take off of the picky eater support thread...I'll start off with what dd eat yesterday.
breakfast: french toast, offered fruit refused
snack: banana & raisins
lunch: sandwich w/ egg salad, crackers w/ cheese spread, grapes
snack: milk
dinner: pizza (we went out to dinner), crackers w/ cheese spread, raisins, carrots
not a very balanced day.... :-[
-
Looks good to me...
My 15 month old is stuck on the same menu pretty much everyday and refuses anything new.
Here is his typical day:
Breakfast: dry cereal (nutrios), apple pieces, yoghurt or instead of dry cereal Eggo multigrain waffle
Snack: unsalted rice cakes, apple pieces
Lunch: grilled cheese, homemade chicken fingers, apple pieces or scrambled egg with toast and apple pieces
Snack: organic cheddar bunny crackers, banana/apple pieces with milk
Supper: chicken pot pie, beef goulasch or meat sauce with orzo in cheese sauce and some veggie (either carrotts, squash, broccoli or sweet potato) with applesauce (or mangoapple sauce)
yoghurt and arrowroot cookie
Before bed snack: Nutrios and Mum Mum
THis is all he will eat. He self feeds everything except supper and yoghurt which I help him with. He hates cooked veggies to self feed. Plus he doesn't like anyother fruit except banana and apple.

Breakfast- almost all of a piece of cinamon toast, lactose free milk
Lunch - part of a chicken nugget, one tater tot, lactose free milk with a touch of cinamon( just trying that out.)
Snacks, several french fries, some of Dadada's Italian ice, Kix cereal
Supper- an entire banana :o Mac and cheese, apple cider. (not her favorite)
Bedtime she will have another glass of milk
Also not the most balanced, but she also gets a vitamin with iron, and we will work on veggies tomorrow. 8)
-
Breakfast - Old fashioned donut, 1/2 banana, prune/apple juice
Lunch - cojack cheese, whole grain gold fish, carrot sticks, cow/vanilla soy milk mix
Dinner - pizza, milk mix
Not balanced but at least he ate carrots and had tomatoes in his pizza - that's more veggies than he usually eats. ::)
-
Today Marisa had 2 ounces milk and toast (buttered with cinnamon sugar) for breakfast, as well as handful of cheerios and some Gerber freeze dried apple bites. Morning snack was 2.5 ounces more milk. Lunch was only pureed peas with oatmeal and some diluted juice (grilled cheese, normally a favorite, was refused). Afternoon snack was 3 ounces milk. Dinner was jar of chicken/veggies, half jar of pureed pears, 1.5 Perdue chicken nuggets and some Just Bananas. Then a hard pretzel in her stroller and 4 ounces milk before bed. We are trying to move off purees and onto more table food/finger food (and she doesn't always allow us to spoon feed her anymore) but it's tough - she has a limited diet (see the other picky toddler support thread!). Plus she's teething badly right now (eye teeth and molars) and that is really affecting her appetite.
-

bedtime snack will probably only be cup of milk but I will offer apple slices and cheese and crackers.
-
breakfast: cheerios w/ milk
snack: pudding (not my choice, school/therapy has these terrible choices)
lunch: mac-n-cheese, grapes, milk
snack: milk
dinner: chicken nuggett (ate 1), potatoe tot (ate 3, that was a first! I have been offering these consitentenly for a over a week and she finally ate them :o), sweet potatoe from a jar, peas, 2 crackers. She ate all that ;D
snack: milk & toddler cereal bar
I know it sounds like a lot of milk but i limit her to a strict 16oz per day.
this was a good day - yippee!!
-
breakfast: toast, one with peanut butter and one with cream cheese
snack: handfull sultana's and 4 low-sugar wiggles biscuits
Lunch: beef pattie (homemade) with baked beans
snack: cheese stick (can't get enough of them!)
Dinner: tub of fruit and yoghurt
Best meal idea - microwave scrambled eggs with cheese!
Latest bad eating habit - rubbing peanut butter and cream cheese into her hair...ears...eyebrows *sigh*
-
henrysmama (Sarah) - where do you find whole wheat gold fish...never seen those?
-
Latest bad eating habit - rubbing peanut butter and cream cheese into her hair...ears...eyebrows *sigh*
Lol! Dd only loves to rub the stickiest possible substances in her hair too. ::)
So Ella suprised me and ate three big pieces of cheese and actually drank water for her bedtime snack! Woo hoo!
Anyone else have a condiment fiend? Ella would live off any kind of dip given the opportunity. She will happily eat straight mustard, ketchup, hot sauce, sour cream, you name it. :-X
-
Aidan (just turned 2) has so far eaten today:
breakfast: half a bowl of cheerios and a cup of milk
morning tea: 3 x Heinz yoghurt covered museli bars (the kid would starve if he didn't eat these)
Lunch: vegemite sandwich and 1 cup milk.
Afternoon tea will be a banana (which he should eat - it's the only fruit he will)
Dinner will be : corn on the cob, mashed pumpkin and potato, carrot, peas and a chicken stick. If I am lucky, he will eat the corn. And that's it. I am so over this fussy eating. Glad to see there are others with the same dilema though! Safety in numbers! ;)
-
Riley spent a whole week avoiding orange coloured food last month...no pumpkin, no carrot, nothing remotely orange looking!!!
We also can't get her to eat fresh fruit, she'll eat tinned fruit (mandarin, peaches, pears, apples) but won't touch the real deal!
I thought we wouldn't have to deal with picky toddler eating habits until she was at least 18 months or two years.
She pulled a great face the other day and physically shuddered when she tried blue cheese ;D
-
Michelle - they're actuall whole grain, not whole wheat, typo . . . they're right by the other goldfish but you have to read the front of the package carefully and not all stores carry them. I buy mine at Meijer.
-
- Breakfast: Refused puree, refused french toast. Ate almost half a Banana Ego waffle toasted with butter, few cheerios, some Gerber apple bites, 2.5 ounces milk
- Morning snack: 4.5 ounces milk, 3 carrot wagon wheels
- Lunch: 2 ounces milk, 3/4 sweet potato/oatmeal puree, refused chicken patty and grilled cheese, bunch of Gerber apple bites
- Afternoon snack: half a hard pretzel
- Dinner: 2 ounces milk, 3/4 jar of chicken/veggies, 3/4 one Purdue chicken nugget. Refused mac n cheese, screamed for apple bites :-\
She'll probably have 4 ounces milk before bed.
Also 4-5 ounces diluted apple juice throughout day
-
I got sneaky tonight and put her raviolis on the same plate as mine. 2 forks. She thought she was getting mama's food and ate more than she did when she had her own bowl. ;) I didn't know they made carrot wheels! Gerber?
-
Yup - Gerber Carrot wagon wheels - they have a little cheese too. The Mouse can use a fork? How did that happen? I wish DD would - maybe that would help her eat more foods... We also don't get to often have family meals - I'm sure that doesn't help.
-
Nope, she can eat off one, but no way will I let her wield one! I just fed her from her own fork. I do let her hand over hand fed with one for a few bites. Maybe Marisa would like that? She does seem more willing to try foods from our plates. I can only find apple wheels.
-
Marisa would FREAK if I tried to do hand over hand... But we did have a better day today. Her molars don't seem to be bothering her nearly as much - I don't think they are through yet but maybe they've stopped moving in the jaw, at least for today? She wasn't grabbing at them or nearly as cranky and ate well (well good for her anyway).
Breakfast: two tbsp oatmeal mixed with banana/peach/raspberry puree and one ounce milk, 3 ounces milk from cup, 1/3 Ego Banana waffle toasted with butter, few cheerios and apple bites
Morning snack: 2.5 ounces milk
Lunch: 1 ounce milk from cup, 2 tbsp oatmeal mixed with one ounce milk and pea puree. 5 bites of grilled cheese sandwich (yay), veggie booty
Afternoon snack: Lots of diluted apple juice and goldfish crackers
Dinner: 2.5 ounces milk, 3/4 jar of veggies/chicken, 3/4 of one chicken nugget, apple bites
Snack: 3 ounces milk, 1/2 cheddar cheese stick, some puffs
Here's hoping tomorrow continues to improve...
-
I just found this thread and I haven't had a chance to read through. But my Lo will not eat any fruits or vegetables. Occasionally she will have a banana, but other than that no fruit. Oh, she will have guacamole if we are at a mexican restaurant. But no avocado from mom.
here's her eating now.
breakfast - half waffle with pb and jam (blueberry, organic, wheat free waffle)
snack - 6 oz soy/whole milk
lunch - veggie booty, turkey (lunch meat), cheese, freeze dried fruit
snack - yogurt
snack - 6 oz soy/whole milk
dinner - very light, veggie booty, toast with cream cheese, dried fruit.
The dried fruit she is eating has been a huge plus. It's made by a company called just tomatoes justtomatoes.com They have all freeze dried fruit that has nothing added to it. She loves the raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries. When i say she loves, she'll have maybe 10 in a given day.
just thought i'd jump in and share. thanks, for all the tips.
-
My very fussy eater today ate:
breakfast: 1 weetbix
snack: 1 small fruit bar
lunch: 1 yoghurt, few bites of cracker, few raisins, plain biscuit
snack: few raisins, bite of fruit bread
dinner (disaster as always) two bites of quiche, few peas, bit of potato and half a banana (just so he ate something!)
Bottles x2 ( 240ml one in the morning, one at bedtime)
I long for the day he eats without the fuss and willingly what i give him ::)

Morning snack: 2 ounces milk
Lunch: 1 ounce milk, baby oatmeal made w/ 1 ounce milk, sweet potato puree. 2/3 of half a grilled cheese sandwich, 4 ounces diluted juice
Afternoon snack: goldfish crackers, 2.5 ounces milk
Dinner: Was a mess - teething problem, I think. 2 ounces milk, 1/4 jar of chicken/veggies. 3 small bites chicken nugget, couple bites of toast, bunch of Just Strawberries
Bedtime Snack: One Cheese breadstick, 3 ounces milk
Refused: cinnamon raisin bread toasted, hot dog, turkey meatball, edamame beans
Kirsty - I too long for that day!
-
Karen (Marisa's Mom): Wow I did not know that your lo was a picky eater either. Gosh we have a lot in common with our lo's. Naps to now eating.
You lo loves the gerber apples, are they the freeze dried ones? I gave them to Zach and he did not digest them at all. They came out whole. The doctor/ allergist said he it is proably something in apples that he just does not digest.
Anyhow Zach has been such a picky eater and not eating much at all. The past 4 nights he has not even touched his dinner.
Today:
Wake: 7 oz. milk in cup with vitamins squirted in it (I just starting doing this)
Breakfast: Fresh cut up Pear and Kiwi and bowl of toddler flakes cereal
Morning Snack: 1/2 yogurt
Wake from Nap: 3 oz. milk
Lunch: A couple bites of hotdog, Fresh cut up pear and kiwi (not much)
Snack before Nap: 1/2 nutragrain fruit bar
Wake: 4 oz. milk
Small Snack before dinner: Some Gerber puffs
Dinner: Refused Mixed vegetables, bake potatoe. Did not eat anything.
Before Bed: Offered milk, Refused.
Not much to eat in a day. I guess for now, I am going to keep offering his 3 meals a day and make sure that he gets plenty of snacks.
* He may just be one that needs very small frequent meals (like me). He is now on Prevacid for Acid Reflux so that may help.
-
Wendy - how often is his Prevacid dose? Could it be wearing off come evening - hence why he doesn't want to eat then? Babies ususally need to be dosed at least 2xday (sometimes 3) as they metabolize the drug much faster than adults.
-
breakfast: cheerois w/ milk and fruit
snack: can't remember ::)
lunch: fruit and 1/2 cheese sandwich
snack: rasins
dinner: refused all! spagetti w/ sauce, peas & pea w/ carrot mix. then ate 2 whole wheat crackers w/ cheese spread.
snack: yogurt and another cracker
16oz milk
Hi KAren, what is: veggie booty
Also did you try the veggie burgers you mentioned on the support thread and did she like them?
I have noticed that almost ALL of them have trouble w/ dinner - hummmm!
-
Only tried the veggie burger once and she wouldn't taste it - plan to try again soon. Veggie booty ROCKS! It's an all natural snack and easily found at most delis, grocery stores and of course health stores and Whole Foods. It's almost like the consistency of a cheese doodle but green and the only ingredients are corn meal, rice, organic soy flour, rice and/or sunflower oil, spinach, kale, cabbage, carrot, broccoli, calcium carbonate, Vitamins A and C, parsley and sea salt. Marisa loves them!
-
veggie booty here we come!
txs
PS: we never success w/ veggie burgers either.
-
Karen: I have been wondering that about the prevacid also. I called his doctor today and she said that 15mg once a day was enough for him. She said to give him 1/2 teaspoon of Mylanta around 2:00/3:00.
Let's see what did my picky eater today:
Wake: 6 oz. milk in cup
Breakfast: Bowl of Toddler Flakes, 1/2 Pear
Lunch: My husband took him to McDonalds and he actually ate a cheeseburger and apples.
Snack: Cheerios & Nutragrain Bar
Dinner: Hummm did not really want anything. I offered fruit and meat.
Snack: Handful of Goldfish with 3 oz. of milk
* Not a good eating day at all. Husband had him most of the day, so he did not get as much milk as he normally does.
Yeah, funny how none of our lo's eat dinner. If anyone comes up with a way to get them to eat, please let me know!!!
-Wendy
-
Today was a really bad day . . . notice the lack of pretty much anything healthy . . .
Breakfast - Lucky Charms cereal (just the cereal, not the marshmellows), two silver dollar pancakes, Gerber freeze dried apples, orange juice
Lunch - Teddy Grahams, milk mix
Dinner - Fruit Loops, oyster crackers, two cups of milk mix, some vanilla ice cream
Refused - pizza for dinner, although he's been asking for pizza for three days! ::)
-
Sarah: Yeah that is not much. What causes them not to eat that much? I started giving Zach vitamins once a day in his milk because I am scaired he is not eating enough.
-Wendy
-
Stacy: You are funny. I know I first heard of it from a friend of mine last week. You can get it in the Whole Foods section of a local grocer here. Anyhow they also have Pirates Booty. WEIRD NAME.....
I laughed when she first told me and I had to ask her again...
-Wendy
-
Wendy - I'd really get a second opinion on the Prevacid - there's no way that once a day dosing is enough for him - you'd even be better off splitting the dose if they won't increase it. Have you ever visited http://www.infantreflux.org? The message boards there are great too.
Michelle - good luck with the veggie booty - it's a big hit here and a great way to get some veggies in! And yes Stacy, it's really called that! There is also Pirate's Booty, which is like a healthy cheese doodle.
Sarah - sorry you had a bad day - hopefully tomorrow is better.
We had a pretty good day:
Breakfast: Refused oatmeal/fruit puree. Drank 2.5 ounces milk, ate almost half English muffin (whole grain) buttered and toasted, Just Strawberries, cheerios
Morning Snack: 3 ounces milk
Lunch: 2 ounces milk, most of oatmeal (with one ounce milk), pea puree. 4 small bites turkey meatball (yea), two bites grilled cheese with tiny bit of chopped broccoli hidden inside, lots of diluted apple juice
Afternoon snack: 4 more bites of grilled cheese, 2.5 ounces milk, 3 wagon wheels
Dinner: 3/4 jar apples chicken, 5 small bites meatloaf (yahoo! I made some for the holiday and she actually tried it and seemed to like it!) 4 small bites Perdue chicken nugget, half piece cinnamon toast, few apple bites, few Just Blueberries, lots of water
Bedtime: 5 ounces milk
I'm sure tomorrow will be an eating disaster but this was nice...
-
Hey Karen: I will check out that website. Thanks! I will have to talk to his doctor again also. They never did any testing to determine that it is deft. reflux or severe reflux. I think most of his has always been silent reflux. He always has thrown up in his mouth and then swallowed it. I have already seen a HUGE change in him since we have started the prevacid. I don't know how I could split it up. It is a dissolvable pill. I guess I could cut it in half.
Thanks and I will keep you posted.
-Wendy
-
Stacy, you are too funny...booty means the same thing here and i have more then enough to share. If i could i would send you some of mine lol ;D
-
I love the booty conversation. It's my daughter's favorite snack. We can usually find it in most health food stores. I love it!
-
Love the veggie bootie! Used to be able to find it at a health food store when we were in the city, but not now in a small town. :-\
Here's Ella's food today,
Breakfast - cereal with plums and a cup of milk. Put an okay dent in it but not too much.
snack - small bit of yoghurt
lunch - few bites of hamburger and a cup of milk
snack - half a banana
supper - two perogies. refused all else ::) and a cup of milk.
no bedtime snack.
sigh. NOT healthy!
-
Sharon,
Kait eats the same way. How do these kids survive? That's what I want to know
-
Wendy, when we we using Prevacid, we used a pill splitter. Then kept the other half pill in a pill bottle for the next dose. It's tricky to split, sometimes you get a few crumbs. We just popped them in as well.
-
mouse mom: Where you on the 15mg a day and just split the one pill? I think I may have to do that. Tonight at dinner (which he did not touch). He sarted crying in pain. you could tell his tummy hurt bad. I gave him some Mylanta.
I am wondering if I should just up the prevacid does myself to 30mg? I don't want to overdose him though.
-
Mum to Ella Rose~We get our booty at Longs, do you have one of those?
-
Wendy, yes we were on 15 mg. If you were to up his dose, you would likely run out before he is due for a refill. On the other hand, if he was better, then you have ammo for convincing the doc to up the dose.
Stacy, Charlotte usually sleeps all night even when having a live on air day. She may wake and need a drink once, but not often.
Our grand total today:
Breakfast - 4oz yogurt with 1 weetabix crushed in it. 8 oz milk - on and off sipping.
Lunch - one bite of her grilled cheese sandwich, one bite of mine. ::) A few bites of cheese, 1/4 cup apple sauce. 8 oz milk.
Snack 3 animal crackers, probably would have eaten more.
Dinner- fruit puffs, veggie puffs, 1.5 apple wheels. 4oz juice. Refused, plain ground turkey, tortilla, cheese, dried cranberries, Just Peas. Did eat several bites of the bread I baked. :)
-
mouse mom: Thanks. I think I will take your advice and Marisa's Mom and spilt his dose up. Once in the morning and then again around 2:00. I will see if that helps better.
Yesterday was an awful eating day for us: I can't even remember, but I know he barely ate a thing. I know his stomach hurt though, so that could have been it.
So far this morning he has eaten good:
Wake: 6 oz. milk
Breakfast: almost a whole piece of french toast and a few bites of his cereal.
-Wendy
-
Ohhh, poor little guy. Yell at his doc as well.
How's this for mean mama? I justed crushed a handful of Just Peas into Charlotte's yogurt/Weetabix. :o Gobbled it down and did not notice that mama had snuck veggies into her. 8)
-
Good job Jenn! Wendy, definitely push the doctor and let us know what she says.
Yesterday Marisa had:
Breakfast: milk, refused oatmeal/fruit mix. Refused french toast. 1/4 toasted/buttered English muffin
Morning snack: milk
Lunch: milk, oatmeal/sweet potato puree, 3-4 small bites meatloaf, 1/4 grilled cheese sandwich, veggie booty
Afternoon snack: Diluted juice, wagon wheels
Dinner: Diluted juice, 4-5 small bites turkey, 2 small bites pot roast (family dinner for holidays) some fruit puree
Bedtime: milk
Milk total for day:13.5 ounces
-
Today was an awful eating day:
Wake: 6 oz.milk
Breakfast: Piece of french toast and 2 bites of cereal
Wake: 4 oz. milk
Snack: Crackers
Lunch: 3 bites of cheeseburger, juice
Snack: About 1/2 thing of Gerber Fruit Puffs
Dinner: Hummm He was eating his mashed poatoes good, but then he was trying to get his sippy cup and it hit his mouth and he cried, cried, so that was it for dinner :( He then ate some crackers.
He loves crackers and that is all he will eat. How in the heck can he survive off crackers.
* Has any of you thought about going to see a specialist? Dietician? I am so worried that Zach does not eat enough.
* I am just going to offering him LOTS of snacks and not worry to much about 3 meals a day. I will still sit down with him 3 times a day, but not worry if he eats that much. I guess??
Karen: I read on another post that you were giving dinner for breakfast. Did you stop doing that?
Thanks Wendy
-
Hi all
Wendy does your dr not able to give you the prevacid in liquid form? My son was originally given tablets but that was such a hassle when it came time to split the dosage. He now has liquid 2x a day morning and night.
Im also considering getting referred to a dietician to look over Jakobs eating (or lack of most days lol) Im also going to take him to a naturopath as i did this for my daughter when she was younger. When i took her i never really believed in the whole naturopathy thing and i didnt really follow what she suggested. Then a year or so later we spent huge money taking her to a specialist after a doctor prescribed her as ADHD (which my reply to him was unprintable but believe me when i say i wasnt impressed an knew there was no way my girl had ADHD....im a teacher and know what ADHD is...DUH doctor!!) Anyway the specialist told us she had food intolerances and what food to avoid for a whole year. What he told us for $1000 the nautropath had told me for $70....duh!! So that was when i realised naturopathy was genuine and not mumbo jumbo for hippies (this was 10 years ago so back then it wasnt common as it is now and many doctors wouldnt approve of seeing one) Getting back to my point.... im going to take jakob and see what she says.I think he may have some food intolerances too which aggrevate his reflux and his mood.Time will tell but i feel it is the right thing to do.
Jakob actually has his first great eating day today!!! (wish his sleep was a s good) ::)
bottle
breakfast: weetbix with milk
snack: rice crackers x 2
lunch: 1x apple and peach puree
1/2 banana
1x uncle tobys fruit twist bar
1 x small cheese cracker
snack: 1 biscuit
1/2 piklet (courteous of caregiver not mummy lol)
dinner 3/4 cheese sizzler sausage
1 small mouthful of potato (better than nothing)
rice rissotto
treat for eating his dinner so well....2 marshmallows!! ;)
Yippee...........what a great day he had with food Im sooo happy with that!!!! ;D ;D

Hi guys, Am going to try and join in more often! Does anyone else's L.O. go to day care or similar and eat really well there?? I checked ds book and it said he ate really well today: :-\
Breakfast: 2 x Weetbix and milk. 1/2 toasted english muffin with Vegemite. Cup of milk.
M Tea: Fruit and yoghurt (according to day care, he ate well)
Lunch: Polenta and Baked Veggies (according to day care, he ate well)
Snack: can't remember what they had at daycare but apparently he didn't eat much.
Dinner: 2 x banana's and chocolate strawberry custard.
He seems to eat breakfast and lunch better than he does dinner and treats dinner more as a snack. Do you think this is a problem?? He eats well when watching the other kids at daycare - I am SOOO pleased that they cook and provide the meals so all the kids are having the same. Peer pressure really works! :) Might just have to invite his whole class home for dinner every night!!! i just can't understand why he eats pizza, lasagne etc at day care yet when I dish it up it is considered poison??? :-\
Melissa.
-
Kirsty: I would hope they would have offered us the liquid form 1st, but you never know. How much is your lo on? Zach take 15mg.
When was your lo born? Zach was born 8-8-05.
This morning I gave him his full dose of prevacid and then breakfast. About 20 minutes later he threw up/ spit up in his mouth and swallowed it. :( Poor guy.
I need to figure out what foods settle best with Zach and which ones make his reflux worse. Before we took the prevacid just out of the blue he would start screaming and crying. He doesn't do that as much now only about 5:00 and after. I think when the prevacid is wearing off.
-Wendy
-
Wendy, are you waiting 30 minutes after giving the Prevacid before his meal? That can make a BIG difference - it should be given on an empty stomach and 30-60 minutes before a meal.
It wasn't me who gives my DD dinner foods at breakfast - that is the other Marisa's Mom, I think her name is Marie.
Thanks everyone for your hugs and support - my SIL really wasn't trying to be rude - she really just didn't understand. Her daughter will try anything and even if she protests, my SIL has always pushed it in and then her DD likes it for the most part - she just got lucky with an easy eater but I wouldn't trade my little lovebug for anything!
Kirsty - glad to hear about your good eating day!
Yesterday DD had:
- Breakfast: Refused oatmeal/fruit puree. Drank 2.5 ounces milk, ate half English muffin toasted w/ cream cheese
- Morning snack/early half lunch: 3 ounces milk, 4 bites grilled cheese, veggie booty
- Late half lunch/snack: Oatmeal/pea puree, veggie chips from Whole Foods, 2 ounces milk
- Dinner: 3/4 chicken nugget, 2 bites cheddar cheese, few bites toast, 2 ounces milk
- Bedtime: 3 ounces milk
Of course now she has a pretty bad cold so I can't imagine she'll eat too well today.
-
Hi Wendy
Jakob was born 2nd August 2005.
I take it you wernt offered liquid form then? If not i would defintely ask about it and even if your prevacid doesnt come in liquid there will be one that does. What prevacid is your LO on? Jakob has been put onto Zantac now and for the most past it works. He has 2.5 ml twice a day.
I think his reflux is playing up big time with teething etc and i think there are foods that make it worse too...the obvious like acidic fruits etc but i think there are ones i havent worked out yet so am trying to!!
Marisas mum.....i didnt mean to make you think i thought your SIL was being rude to you.....i meant only that to others it is simply hard to understand when they dont have selective eaters like we do.Sorry if it offended you i was trying to be supportive and say "hey i know what you mean"
Anway hope all is going well...take care everyone
Kirsty
-
Kirsty - no need at all to apologize - I wasn't offended at all and totally understand and appreciate your support!
-
Karen: Man, how confusing MarisaMom and Marisa'sMama.. Opps sorry.....
* You know the doctors really me off. Why don't they tell you this stuff when they give you medicine??? I had no clue that I should be waiting to give him the prevacid.
So. When do you all think I should give it to him?
He drinks his milk as soon as he wakes up which is at 7:00
7:30/8:00 He eats breakfast.
Should I try giving it to him at 9:00 (that would be 1 hour after he had eaten and right before his nap).
Should I split the dose or just give him the full dose at 9:00? The only other time I could give it to him would be 2:00.
Kirsty: You asked what prevacid was he on? Are there differnt kinds??? I just thought there was prevacid. Or do you mean liquid, pill, etc.? He is taking a solutab. I dissolve it in water and give it to him.
Thanks so much for all your help.
-Wendy
-
I would try to give him the Prevacid when he wakes and then waiting half an hour before his bottle. And I would definitely push for an increased/split dose. If you post over at infantreflux.org they can help more with this too.
Today was not a good eating day - but I can't be surprised - poor girl caught my cold and has eye teeth sitting right below her gums too. She had:
- Breakfast: oatmeal w/fruit puree, 1 ounce. 1/4 English muffin toasted w/butter
- Morning snack/early half lunch: 6 small bites grilled cheese, little bit of milk, veggie booty
- Afternoon snack/late half lunch: Tiny bit of milk. Nothing to eat. Refused puree, turkey meatball, pieces of cheese
- Dinner: Some milk, one Purdue chicken nugget, jar of turkey/veggies/barley, some Just Strawberries, some Whole Foods veggie chips
- Bedtime: Little bit of milk
Milk total for day - 12 ounces. Juice throughout day.

Wendy, the docs don't tell you 'cause they are not the ones that dispense/administer meds. Likely they often have no clue. (Apologies to any lurking docs with a clue.) The fact that so many pharmacists neglect this lil' tidbit is annoying. Ok, grump attack over! ;) Hopefully he feels better soon!
-
I will post on that site! Thanks! I don't think i could give it to him when he first wakes up. He expects that cup of milk right when he wakes. There is no way I could hold him off 30 minutes to an hour.
- This is what he ate today:
Wake: 8 oz. milk in cup
Breakfast: 1 piece of french toast and a few strawberries.
Snack: 5 oz. milk in cup and cheerioes
Lunch: 5 bites of chicken and cheese sandwich, 4 bites of applesauce and goldfish crackers
Snack: 3 oz. milk
Dinner: Crackers, Offered noodles, corn and carrots. I think he ate a little tiny bit of that.
Not a bad eating day. Lets see how tom. goes.
-
Hi Wendy.....sorry i meant is it tablets or capsules.Tablets can come in dissovable form and in NZ we also get the liquid which is in strawberry form.....but we have to hunt a round for a pharmacy willing to mix it up for us.(not many can be bothered as it takes about 30 mins for them to do)...........Anyway it was just an idea for you to perhaps discuss with the doctor to make life a bit easier.
I am suppose to give Jakob is meds 30 mins to an hour before food or milk.....but there is NO way he will wait that long after getting up to have his beloved bottle so we just give it right before. It hasnt made much difference to Jakob but each child is different.
Have you got an appointment with the doctor to discuss all this with them? Maybe a specialist referral may be the way to go.Our doctor didnt prescribe medicine said it wasnt his place so we had a long wait before jakob got a specialist appointment.now we have instant help with our wonderful specialist who is even happy to discuss issues on the ph rather than waiting for an appt.
Take care
Kirsty
-
Kirsty: Yeah I have no clue when to give it to him now to time it right. I think I will contact a GI Specialist in the area.
I checked out that Website and WOW it is awesome. So much infor.
-
Wendy - if he eats well in the morning, you may want to switch the Prevacid later in the day if you're only going to give one dose.
-
Karen: True, I think I may try that. That website you gave me is so helpful. Thanks again.
* So far a pretty good morning for Zach.
Wake: 8 oz. milk in cup
Breakfast: 1 piece of french toast, a few bites of apple and some puffs.
-
Glad to hear it! I post there often (or used to anyway, not so much anymore) as knb18.
We're barely eating or drinking here today but again, it seems related to the massive amount of congestion and nose crust. She's happy as a clam though...
-
I am embarrassed to post here since we are in such a funk with eating, but here goes...
Breakfast - Three bites of oatmeal, one bite of yogurt, refused cereal, refused fruit
Snack - An orange slice
Lunch - One noodle of mac n cheese, refused turkey, refused raspberries..
Wish me luck for the rest of the day! :(
-
Yipee, dont know what possesed my picky dd today but she ate veal stroganoff with mushrooms, ( after pasta with fish) and she just loved the mushrooms, so tonight I did chicken and mushroom for me and she ate a bit of that too, again more mushroom than anything. This is the girl with slippy/wet texture probs >:( Of course me and dh know she will never eat it again :P
-
Well the rest of our day went okay. Lunch he ate 1/2 sandwich and a few bites of apple. Dinner.. Spit out pork, green beans, potaoteos and carrots. He finally ate 3 crackers.
:-(
-
Have you figured out anything more with the Prevacid timing, Wendy?
Welcome Sheila and don't be embarrased. Isn't Nathan a former refluxer too? It seems many of our LOs on this thread are...
That's great Leahsmom - how did you get her to try that?
Today Marisa had:
- Breakfast: 2 ounces milk, most of oatmeal (made with one ounce milk)/fruit mix. One bite of Ego waffle, few cheerios
- Morning snack/early lunch: 3.5 ounces milk, 6 small bites grilled cheese, veggie booty
- Afternoon snack: 4 spoonfuls veggie puree, .5 ounce milk, 3 wagon wheels, diluted juice. Refused turkey, cheese
- Dinner: 1.5 ounces milk, 4 tiny bites chicken cutlet, jar of carrots/beef/barley, almost half whole grain English muffin toasted and buttered, Just Strawberries, Whole Foods Veggie Chips (likes the carrots and green beans)
- Bedtime: handful of Gerber freeze dried fruit - new flavor this time - banana/pineapple, 4.5 ounces milk
-
Karen: I have not figured out any more with the timing. Today I gave it to him right after his milk and then breakfast was 15 minutes later. So I am sure the prevacid did not even work today. Hummm maybe that could be why he was so darn fussy all day long...
What if for some reason he does not really have true reflux? We never have had testing done. I mean he has all the symptoms of it and everytime we go to the doctor they do a strep test because he throat is always so red (but yet he never has strep). Can this medicine do any harm if they do not really need it?
I just wish I could figure out why he does not eat that much (never ever has) and why he whines all the time. He has been sleeping really good though.
-Wendy
-
Wendy - the medicine will not do any harm - it is virtually impossible to overdose on a PPI. And from your description it does sound like he needs it but I'd really try to time it better and get him on two doses a day and see if that really helps.
-
Stacy: OMG YES!!! mmmmm mmmmm mmmm mmmm ahhhhh ahhhh ahhhh... Yeah like something is buring in him.
Karen: Thanks. I think I may go see his doctor tom. and ask about uping his does or switching to that one medicine that can be taken at anytime. It is called Zegerid, have you heard of it? Any advice?
Thanks so much you guys!!!
-
Zoey and other moms swear by it and pledge to marry He Who Invented It. http://www.marci-kids.com/ This is the site with info about the med. Seems you can e-mail the doc and pharmacists there andthey get back to you pretty quick. Print out the dosing info and such to take to the doc with you. PM Zoey if you have any questions. She will love to help. :-*
-
Do you have Zoey's name on here that I can PM her? I have checked out that website. It has a lot of infor.
-
Zoey is also her user name. :) She is a pu/pd mod.
-
Jenn: Thanks I just PM her!!! I will keep you all posted.
-
Just wanted to quickly say that I have a 'fluxer too. Interesting! :-\
-
Hi..
I am more and more sure that Jakobs reflux issues have contributed to his selective eating habits. If i think about it when he was young his throat was always "burnt" by the stomach acids coming back up (silent reflux) and he associated food/swallowing with pain.Purees always soothed it eating them was never a problem.
When he started lumpier foods he was very anti them. I know he was young but perhaps physcologically he asscoiated food with pain IYGWIM? He has taken many months to even try finger foods and of course now is still very limited in what he will eat.
I wish there was more research done in the connection between reflux and food issues......i have come across a lot of mothers with reflux babies/toddlers who go through the same thing! Something to think about.
We have added one new food this week which Jakob is wolfing down.......rice rissotto. He loves it!!! Yeah for a new item to the "yes" list!!!!! Last week he added rice crackers....so one new food a week is all good!

Charlotte so far has done:
yogurt/weetabix with some Just peas mixed in. Wish I had thought of that sooner!!
2 bites of her soy butter toast, half of her raspberry applesauce.
Several animal crackers.
Veggie Booty. Thanks Karen!!!!!!! But it's GREEN!!!! Yuck!
Supper I'm thinking chicken finger and mashed taters. She's done great with her milk so far.
-
Hey nothing wrong with green food! Especially green healthy food!
Not much to eat today - think this cold is really bothering her - she's pretty tired too. I haven't had much of an appetite myself actually.
-Breakfast: 2 ounces milk from cup, oatmeal (made with one ounce milk) and fruit puree, 2 bites Ego waffle, few cheerios and freeze dried apple bites
-Morning snack/early lunch: 4.5 ounces milk, 2 bites (tiny ones) grilled cheese, handful of veggie booty, handful of freeze dried banana/pineapple bites. actually tried tiny bite of mac n cheese!
- Afternoon snack: 2.5 ounces milk, handful (probably 15-16 pieces) whole grain goldfish. Later on diluted apple juice
- Dinner: 2 tiny bites meatloaf, 4 tiny bites chicken cutlet, 2 tiny bites chicken nugget, 3/4 jar (or less) turkey/vegetable/barley. 2 bites buttered English muffin
- Bedtime: 2.5 ounces milk - which she would have been happy to do without.
How do they grow on so little? That's only 12.5 ounces milk and not much food for one day! But then again, I think we're both fighting this odd virus/bug - you don't feel horrible but I was really congested last week and she is congested this week and now my throat hurts and I feel off/on nauseous and not much appetite myself...
-
Hey everyone: I took Zach to the doctor today to discuss the prevacid and him not eating. Well... he has an ear infection and all 4 of his molars are coming in. Sooooo that explains a lot.
My doctor still said that 15 mg of prevacid a day is plenty for him and that I should not be reading so much online.
Today has been an awful eating day:
Wake: 8 oz. milk
Breakfast: 1/2 pear, refused everything else
Snack: Fruit Puffs
Lunch: 2 crackers
Milk: 4 oz.
Snack: Puffs and gold fish
Dinner: Apples and crackers. Did not want anything else.
Yeah I know BAD..... But I guess with his ears and teeth, he does not want to eat.
Now I am starting to feel sick... :(
-
All day long...
2 bites oatmeal
6 saltine crackers
2 slices American cheese
6 bites apple
1 bite chicken
4 pieces broccoli
4 oz Jello
milk, don't keep track, but prob 12-14oz
water
Ah, the life of a toddler... here's to hoping tomorrow will be better!
-
Karen, it's just the concept of something that looks a bit like a Cheeto, but is green. It's just weird! But hey, if she will eat them, I'll buy them. Better for her than Cheetos as well. :D
-
Karen - Thanks for the welcome. Yup, Nathan was a serious refluxer for the first year or so. I still think he occassionally refluxes, but hasn't been on meds for a while. I do know that many refluxers have sensory issues, and I think that plays a part in him not wanting to eat. (Like he will suddenly smoosh his hands in noodles, and scream, and throw it.) But for some reason, he has no sensory issues with cookies, ice cream, or pudding. ::)
I am getting good ideas in this thread for foods to try. So thanks! ;D
We decided to completely back off today, and let him eat nothing if he chose to, and we had a great day. I also limited the amount of time that he was grazing on a snack. Not sure what tomorrow will look like, but here is today.
Breakfast - Half a whole grain waffle, two ounces yogurt, three strawberries
Snack - Handful of cereal
Lunch - 1/3 cheese sandwich, 1/4 cup cottage cheese, few bites of peach
Snack - Few crackers
Dinner - Breadstick, few bites of pizza (I know, sooo unhealthy :P)
-
What's wrong with pizza? It's got sauce, cheese, bread?
-
LOL. Thanks Deborah. I actually don't think twice about giving him things like pizza or chicken fingers, or even fries. It's when I see other toddlers eating tofu and broccoli everyday, that I think I am a horrible mom. :P
-
Hi........
I too dont worry too much about what Jakob is eating as in health wise as if he only had healthy foods his limited "yes" list would be be left with only weetbix, bananas and rice crackers ::) haha!!! Right now i am happy i can get him to eat something....hopefully as he gets older he will accept some more healthy foods but until then........well we go with the flow!
Todays accepted food
Bottle 240mls
Breakfast: weetbix x1
snack: 2x rice crackers 1/2 banana
lunch: fruit twist bar,1/4 pear,few raisins,1 biscuit
snack :few mouthfuls of rice wafer and a few raisins and a stolen bit of banana muffin off my plate!!
Dinner: rice rissotto (3rd night running but loves it )
mouthful of potato
few bits of sausage.
pretty good day really for Jakob...looking at his food i guess it isnt too bad it has been far worse of late.

Kirsty and Karen: I know our lo's are the same age. 13 months. Born in August.
Just wondering, how much does your lo's weigh??
Zach is 21 pounds, but looks very small to me.
Wendy
-
At her one year visit (at 12.5 months old) she weighed 21'3. Wendy - the ear infection and molars could definitely be making him not want to eat. Are you giving him Motrin? Teething can also really make reflux worse...
-
I have not given him Motrin. I already feel like he is taking enough with the Prevacid and now the antibotic. I guess one more thing want hurt though.
Yeah I have read that about teething making reflux worse. He has already refluxed twice today and some of it came out and he swallowed the rest. I gave him his medicine this morning right before his milk.. Did not seem to help.
I have a call into the Children's Hospital here in Richmond, VA (where i live) to see what they can do.
I will keep you all posted. I go to the doctor myself today at 3:00 :( I'm feeling like i have an ear infection now, just off!
Wendy
-
Good idea with calling the children's hospital. Also if you post on the infant reflux site some people may have doctor recommendations for you. If he's still refluxing so badly at over a year they may want to do some testing and/or look into allergy issues. I'd definitely do the Motrin once a day for the teething/ear pain for now.
-
Backing up what Karen said. For kicks, I stayed at daycare for breakfast to see what Charlie does. Ate half a piece of toast, 3/4 a piece of cheese and her milk. Fine for me. :) Tried the scrambled eggs, :P would not try the fruit cocktail. And the teacher does not encourage at all. >:( She will still let me spoon feed some, I may smoosh some fruit and see if she will eat it. She will happily eat nanners an applesauce, so at least she gets some. And we have fruit juices that are fortified with calcium, so more fruit there.
-
Hi Wendy.............Jakob is about 24 pounds or there abouts. He was 22 pounds about 6 weeks ago so I am guessing he is about 24 pounds now.Ive no idea if that is big....or average but up until he got sick 2 months ago he was always at the top end of the scale. Now he has dropped in size from al his crawling and being sick so maybe he is average???
Take care
Kirsty

Toddlers also don't gain so much - weight gain really slows down after the first year.
Today was a good day:
- Breakfast: 3 ounces milk, 2tbsp oatmeal (made w/ one ounce milk) mixed with 2 ounces apples/cherries. handful cheerios, handful banana/pineapple bites
- Morning snack: half hard pretzel in stroller, diluted juice
- Early lunch: 3/4 of half grilled cheese sandwich, veggie booty, 3 ounces milk
- Afternoon snack: 3 ounces milk, handful (15-16 pieces) whole grain goldfish. hour later more diluted juice
- Dinner: 1 ounce milk, 1 1/4 Purdue chicken nugget, two tiny bites meatloaf, one tiny bite steamed carrot (!), 3/4 jar of EB turkey vegetable dinner
- Bedtime: 3 ounces milk
I'm so happy that she even tried one tiny bite of the steamed carrot. I steamed them using some brown sugar in the water and then cut them tiny and added a bit of salt. I think she might have had more but they were still a little too slippery. Must keep experimenting. Plus she is getting closer to self feeding with a spoon - she does try now and is happy when she manages to get any in. Heaven forbid you try to help her though.
-
Well Zach goes in for his Upper GI on Monday morning. I am nervous now.
Any advice: He cannot eat or drink after 5:00 a:m, so shoud I wake him at 4:45 and give him a cup of milk and hope he goes back to sleep or just let him sleep until 7:00 and leave to go to the doctor. His appt. is at 8:30 that morning. I just know he will throw a fit because he will be hungry and thirsty...
?????
Thanks,
Wendy
-
An upper GI is a good first step. Unfortunately, it is mainly used for showing structural abnormalities and isn't the best indicator of how severe reflux is (an endoscopy is much better for that and would also be able to show allergies). But it's still a good first step. If it were me, I'd probably do a dream feed style feed at 3 or 4am and then let him sleep untinl 7 if he can/will.
-
Hi all..
We had another good eating day today and i am so proud of Jakob.
Todays menu
bottle
breakfast: 1 weetbix and 2 bites of stolen toast from daddys plate
snack: raisins, 1/2 banana 2 poppajacks
lunch: fruit twist bar.other 1/2 of banana,1 cracker,baby custard
snack: 2 dried apricots, several licks of sisters yoghurt icecream'
dinner: frankfurter in bun (licked and tried but refused, but he tried!)
puree pumpkin and sweetcorn (his favourite)
1 dried apricot few raisins
Bottle
A new tooth has just cut through so an improvement in eating now!!Yippee!!
Good luck with the Upper GI Wendy let us know how it goes.
Marisas mum...an endoscopy shows allergies? I never knew that. Im looking at finding out if Jakob has allergies or intolerances but was thinking of going to a naturopath.Ive had an endoscopy...do they sedate children for it?
Kirsty
-
Hey Kirsty: They will sedate your child for the endoscopy (but a very small amount) :( SAD.
If our Upper GI does not show anything, I think I will ask to have this done.
He has been to an allergist and it showed he was allergic to Soy, Dust Mites and Oak Tree Pollen, but I think there are some other things that he just can't tolerate.
Everytime I give him peanute butter (even a very very small amount) within 10 minutes it goes right through him. Not diaherra, just very very soft. Oh and Freeze Dried Apples. He has not had any in about 2 weeks, I gave him some lastnight and this morning he woke with a diaper full. That happened last time.
I guess they just don't agree with him.
So far he has been good today, we were gone all morning though.
Ate:
Wake: Drank about 6 oz. milk
Breakfast: Few bites of pear, 2 bites of toast
Snack: Cheerioes, a few bites of hash brown
Wendy
-
Kirsty_167 That's a lot of food! Good for you both!
-
Way to go Kirsty and Jakob! Yes, they will sedate your child for an endoscopy and during it they will take some biopsies - the presence of EOS cells can show allegies (not intolerances).
Wendy, I'd hold off on the peanut butter - I don't recommend giving it until 2 ideally (18 months soonest) or 3 if any family history of nut allergies or asthma. Hope it goes well Monday - will be thinking of you guys.
-
Karen: Yeah I agree, no more peanute butter espicailly if he is going to the bathroom so soon.
Well Lunch was not good:
Zach at 3 green beans, 1 bite of chicken and a few bites of his apple. In between bites of his apple, he would scream and fuss for a few seconds a then fine (?).
I hope we get some answers Monday.
I will keep you all posted.
Wendy
-
Hi
Yes Jakob did eat alot of food yesterday.Im thrilled he at least has some good days.
The pattern at the moment is he will eat well in the day if we get the food right.he is more into snack foods and not sandwiches or meals.I guess this has to be ok for now or he would eat nothing!! i have to let go of the idea he will eat his meat and veg at night. If dinner consists of crackers, banana and raisins....then i guess thats better than nothing right?
Teething and reflux play a big part on Jakobs good and not so good eating days.We will have to ride this out as it wont last forever ::)Here's hoping haha!!
Take care all
Kirsty
Ps I have started a thread in The Couch called "What CAN your toddler do"...............i started this to give us a place to share the great things our LOs can do.I found i spend alot of time worried what he isnt doing, isnt eating etc and thought it would be a good idea to have a positive thread for us to "brag" on!!! Please feel free to go and post about your LO......its a fun...positive thread to help focus on what our children are doing......put a smile on my face doing it anyway!!
-
Hello lovelies, I have a picky eater here too. :) I follow the Dr Sears way and try and aim for a balance over the week rather than a day, helps me not to get stressed! However, I really need to expand my repertoire (not much of a cook) so it's great to be able to read some of the stuff you're doing - Steaming carrots in brown-sugar-water? GENIUS!!!!
I just wanted to say I think your LOs are all doing really well and you're great mums for putting so much effort in!
Michelle x
-
Becca (just turned 2) only eats ham and cheese in cubes, tinned spaghetti (sometimes), crusts off bread, yoghurt with purreed fruit and sometimes a little cereal (Weetos). She hates all drinking cups although she's capable of drinking from them so sticks to the bottle. She drinks cows milk in the day, sweetened with a little sugar and formula for breakfast and at bedtime. It's hard to know how to increase her range of foods... I've tried to give her mash, and some fish, but she won't have it at any price :( I'm hoping that I can persuade her to eat mash eventually because then I'll be able to hide purreed veg into it.
-
Bexmummy: Do you still give the formula because of the extra vitamins (to make sure she is getting enough)?
Zach has had an awful couple days:
So far today:
Wake: 7 oz. milk in cup
Breakfast: 1/2 biscuit and fruit puffs
Snack: Handful of puffs, juice
Wake from Nap: 3 oz. milk
Lunch: Ummm did not want a thing, just crackers. Ate 3 crackers and a strawberry fig newton
Snack: A few bites of icecream
So fast that is it, he is asleep now for his 2nd nap and will drink some milk when he wakes. Not sure how dinner will go, proably just crackers. :( YOU CANNOT BE HEALTHY ON JUST CRACKERS. I think I am going to take him to the Feedign Clinic once we get the results back from his Upper GI.
Wendy
-
A tidbit from daycare: make a fist. Allegedly, that's how much food a toddler needs each day. Notice I said needs, not eats, as they would usually eat more. Having said that, I have no idea if that's true or not, but it made a certain amount of sense at the time. Add that to the theory of get the various food groups in over 2-3 days, and we can relax a bit. So says the mama whose kid ate one saltine for lunch yesterday with her milk. Tons of pizza/pasta choices at the buffet, she eats a cracker. 8)
-
I have heard that before about the toddlers and fist and food, Jenn. Sorry I've been MIA everyone - a bit crazy with the holidays and my girl who refused to nap at all on Sunday - but will post later and will respond to your PM as well, Wendy.
-
Sorry, i missed so much...notification wasn't working - why?
Karen, thanks for veggie bootie - Megan loves it! Also willing to try just tomatoes - mixed fruit. store i went to didn't have much in the way of veg.
Have you tried carrots w/ ranch dressing - this is how i got Megan to eat. I will try the brown sugar though.
Interesting most our LO have/had reflux.
HI Shelia - Megan has sensory issues too...didn't know common in refluxers.
She ate a corn dog recently! Well at least the bread and a few bites of the turkey dog. Maybe it was the food on stick...i will need to think how i can use this w/ new foods.
-
I give my LO veggie burgers. He likes them and it's a way to sneak veggies in. I never thought of Luke as a "picky eater" but maybe he's turning into one. :-\
-
Well, the results are back: Zach deft have severe reflux. (Uhhh duh, I have been telling the dcotors that since birth), now his poor little espohagues (s/p) is proably burned so much, that is why he hates to eat :(
She still will not increase his dose of prevacid.
He goes to the Feeding Clinic in November (but said they have cancellations every week, so may be sooner). There is going to be a doctor, dietician and a therapist there at the 1st appoitment. She said a lot of kids that have reflux associate eating with pain and that is why they do not want to eat.
I will keep you all posted on what happens and any advice, etc. I get
Today has been an awful eating day:
Wake: 7 oz. milk
Breakfast: Freeze dried apples and 3 bites of a biscuit
Snack: Freeze dried apples
Lunch: 1 40z. yogurt, freeze dried apples and a cracker
Snack: Guess!!! Freeze dried apples
Dinner: 1 cracker, 2 oz. of a baby food jar and freeze dried apples
No more milk :(. See a pattern of the freeze dried apples, that is all he will eat and they go right through him. He does not even digest them, comes out whole in his diaper.
Wendy
-
wendy, big hugs to you and Zack. have you thought of speaking to another ped. Megans ped and allergist disagree ... tell me different advice all the time. Maybe you need a second opinion and / or a doc w/ more experience. just a thought ::)
-
Wendy, bless his little heart!!!! I definitely agree with Meg's Mom. A second opinion is in order.
-
The feeding clinic told me today that if they felt like he dose of medication should be increased, they could do it.
* I just can't wait to go and talk to them.
This is our 2nd Doctor. The 1st ped he had (up until 6 mos), just made me feel like I was crazy. They told me I had the new mommy syndrome... I could ring their necks now..
-
They told me I had the new mommy syndrome...
you have got to be kidding! Good for you and changing docs from ped 1. Sounds like you may just want to deal directly w/ the feeding client where possible. Sounds like they will listen to you!
I can relate to your anger...Megan's reflux went undiagnoised for a year! It was her allergist who finally caught it. I now deal him directly on most issues and only the ped for check ups and colds!
PS: what is feeding clinic? Where are you and i wonder if they have these in most major cities/clinics. I would guess they will have lots of ideas for our picky eaters...can't wait to hear more.
-
Michelle, I'm so glad that Megan likes the veggie booty! Marisa has been having some everyday with lunch. Wendy - can you call the clinic every day and find out if there have been any cancellations?
So I think I'll split the difference and try one new food at every meal for a week. Well not breakfast for now but lunch and dinner. So starting today I'm trying steamed carrots along with her standard grilled cheese and veggie booty and lunch and I'll try turkey meatball along with her standard chicken nuggets and dried fruit and veggie chips at dinner. After a week maybe I'll try hot dog at lunch and steamed peas at dinner... I'd post what DD is eating but it's basically the same every day - oatmeal mixed w/ fruit puree for breakfast, few cheerios, sometimes few bites of toasted/buttered English muffin; lunch is always grilled cheese (I sneak veggie puree onto the bread as well) - she usually has 1/2-3/4 of half a sandwich along with veggie booty; afternoon snack is either goldfish or wagon wheels or freeze dried fruit with milk; dinner is chicken nugget (Perdue - usually about 1 nugget) and veggie chips and sometimes more dried fruit. About 12-16 ounces milk/day and about 4-6 ounces diluted apple juice.
-
This is our 2nd Doctor. The 1st ped he had (up until 6 mos), just made me feel like I was crazy. They told me I had the new mommy syndrome... I could ring their necks now..
I was in the same boat. Luke was 4 months old and I had been saying since he was 3 weeks old that I thought he had reflux. It took him projectile spewing all over the wall in the doc's office for him to say "Gee, I think he has reflux." We got a new pediatrician when he was 6 months old and it was like night and day.
-
We don't eat pork but maybe I can substitute chicken, turkey or beef? She hasn't been eating meatballs much lately but I'd certainly try again, thanks Stacy!
-
Michelle: The feeding clinic is at the Children's Hospital in Richmond, VA. I know they do have on at Va Beach also, but not in smaller cities.
I feel like I am driving myself nuts with all this. I went today and bought Rice milk to try and foods without Milk or Soy ingredients. I was thinking about trying for 2 weeks no milk or soy ingredients. My hubby wants me to wait until we go to the feeding clinic.
I really think I am driving myself crazy. What he eats, is all I think about night and day :(
-
Only just now found this thread.
Today Lilah ate:
Breakfast: an egg over easy, one piece of whole wheat toast with butter and honey, about 3 oz of milk with a wee bit of chocolate syrup added (she eats the egg and toast almost every morning)
Snack: about 2 oz of calcium-fortified tangerine juice
Lunch: about 1/4 of a big avocado, half a tomato, dipped in salad dressing. Refused pita pizza (a whole wheat pita with sauce and cheese, put under the broiler for a couple minutes)
Snack: 4 oz of strawberry fruit-juice sweetened greek yogurt, 6-7 Kashi crackers, a couple tablespoons dried cranberries
Dinner: about 1/3 of an orange and two bites of a veggie corn dog dipped in ketchup. Refused veggie-lentil soup that I made for the family and the rest of the corn dog.
Snack: 1 oz of string cheese, one Kashi cracker with peanut butter, an oz or two of milk
This was actually a pretty good day... she ate 4 different varieties of fruits and veggies, plus the juice. And she actually got about 3 toddler-sized calcium servings. Not a ton of protein, though...
-
Party time!!!!!!! Last night she discovered raisins!!!!!! Got the top off herself and tossed a few. DH handed her one that she popped in her mouth. Thought about it a second, then grabbed a handful! We have another fruit!!!!! Now I'm thinking other dried fruits that look similar.
-
Way to go Mouse!!! Have you tried the Just Blueberries? They look and feel quite similar - Marisa loves them (more than raisins).
-
Lilah's a huge fan of dried fruit... we do dried cranberries, cherries, apricots, blueberries, and strawberries in addition to raisins. The apricots are great as they are high in iron and beta carotene.
-
I tried apricots yesterday. :P Little snot even found them INSIDE her soybutter sandwich before she bit into it. ::) So, we will try the stuff that looks more like a raisin first, then try mixing stuff.
-
sabrina - welcome and congrats...i missed something the past 26 weeks :-)!
marisa - veggie chips ?? what are they, you have more goodies to share!
Mydreamcametrue - thanks, probably have one at Children's Hosp, Orange CA. I'll check into.
I was pulling my hair out in May 06...w/ 6mnts of ear infections and colds, i took Megan off all milk / soy for 2 weeks and had great success (also not an ear infection since and never looked back). Now at 2 she is back on all milk products except for milk. But you need to give yourself a break, they will eat what they can/are ready for. The best we can do is provide the opportunity to eat healthy and it is up to them to do the rest!
-
Veggie chips rock (although not as much as veggie booty). They are real veggies - but in chip form - not sure if baked or fried, would assume baked - come in a plastic tin with taro, green beans, carrots, sweet potatos and squash - look like what they are but dry and little salt. Marisa really likes the carrots and green beans - sometimes will eat a little of the squash and sweet potato chips. I used to buy them at Whole Foods but they've been out lately so just ordered some from nutsonline.com.
Marisa is teething badly. She had today:
- Breakfast: oatmeal/fruit puree mix, milk, few bites toasted buttered whole grain English muffin
- Lunch: 4 tiny bites grilled cheese (with veg puree spread inside), veggie booty, half jar Mac n Cheese, milk. Refused steamed peas/carrots
- Afternoon snack: Just Strawberries, few bites graham cracker, milk
- Dinner: 1 Perdue chicken nugget, veggie chips, jar veggies/chicken. Refused turkey meatball
- Bedtime: Milk
Milk total for day: 12 ounces. 6 ounces diluted apple juice
-
http://www.recipezaar.com/151000 Surfing tonight and found this. Sounded like something our lot would like.
-
Zach ate pretty good today: YEAH!!
Wake: 8 oz. milk with a multivitamin mixed in
Breakfast: Watermelon, 1 whole Nutragrain breakfast bar
Snack: Puffs and juice
Lunch: 3 bites of salmon cake, watermelon, 1 square of cheese, a few raisins
Wake from Nap: 4 oz. milk
Snack: Freeze dried apples (almost 1/2 a bag) and some raisens, juice
Dinner: Refused taco puree (pinto beans, sour cream, cheese, meat in blender) tasted good to me. Ate: 3 squares of cheese, crackers, watermelon and freeze dried apples.
Had diaherra twice today and freeze dried apples came out whole. I think for sure now, he CANNOT tolerate apples. He does not even digest them and has had diaherra from them. Could just be a super good laxactive for him.
I was going to take lo off all diary to see if it helped with some of problems, but I am so scaired to at this point because he already is not getting enough calories.
* I got a lot of information from a friend of mine that went to Children's Hospital feeding Clinic. She gave me a list of CALORIE BOOSTING ideas. I am going to scan them into my computer and then just cut and paste (or attach) the info. I will do it tom, gotta go to bed now.
* I think it will be useful, espcially if your lo's do not get a lot of calories and/ or if they have problems with textures.

Sounds like Zach did well! Thanks for the recipe Jenn - will definitely try that soon since all Marisa usually eats for dinner is chicken nuggets. I did get her to eat a little bit of meatball from a pizza place last night though!
-
Not a good eating day. She was up for a bit during the night, so slept late-9:40.!! So, yogurt/weetabix for breakfast and her milk. Lunch was a few puffs, a few veggie booty and a bit of cheese. Oh, and V-8 fusion juice. Fruits and veggies! Supper we went out. Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. And oj. Great with the juice, not tons of food. She also has a cold and probably teething too. Milk, puffs and one raisin at bedtime.
-
My latest creation: Chocolate Malt o Meal with a spoonful of soybutter stirred in. Smells like a Reece's peanut butter cup. Must be pretty tasty, as she inhaled 2/3 of an adult serving.
-
Lately I've been relaxing a bit more and letting Lilah eat pretty much all day long, instead of adhering so strongly to the idea of "meals". If she eats at a meal, great, but if not, at least she's been eating nutritious snacks throughout the day. I start off with a fairly substantial breakfast, as she usually eats quite well then (usually an egg and toast with fruit or juice, or a bowl of oatmeal with lots of raisins and whole milk, with some juice on the side), but after that, I just make "mini meals". Here is a sample from a couple days ago:
Breakfast: oatmeal with raisins and milk, calcium-fortified tangerine juice
Mini-meal 1: (in her stroller while we went for a walk): 1 oz string cheese, ~4 whole-grain crackers, two carrot sticks, 2-3 Tbspn raisins (she ate all of that! I couldn't believe it!)
Mini-meal 2: (at lunch time) 3 more whole grain crackers with lots of cream cheese, one deviled egg half. offered some more carrot sticks, but they were refused.
Mini-meal 3: (after nap) a peanut-butter granola ball, about 8-10 steamed green beans, 1/4 of an apple, 4-6 oz milk with a wee bit of chocolate syrup
Dinner (went out): mac and cheese, pickles from the table (we went to a deli; and she's a pickle fanatic), some bread, a cookie
Before bed: ~4 oz milk
I'm finding she's much more receptive to veggies at snack time than she is at meal times. And I'm also finding, ironically, that we're having lots fewer dinner-time scenes, when she just flings er food about and demands to be let down from the table, and a lot more actual eating instead, when I allow her to just eat all day. Who would have thought? Maybe it's because I'm less anxious about her not eating, she senses that, and therefore it's not as fun to push my buttons by refusing to eat?
-
Funny you should post that, Lilah's Mom, as I have just started doing that with Riley and it is going well. Although now he has two molars coming in at once and is refusing evrything, but is drinking okay, so I'm not too worried.
-
Well Im here to announce we have had some major breakthroughs with Jakobs eating this week and im thrilled!!!
While he is still very picky over what he will eat he has branched out and eaten meat!!! Wow :o Im so proud of my wee boy this week for finally giving meat a go. In the last week he has devoured ham, seafood quiche, meatloaf and chicken (off daddys plate). This is a major breakthrough and accomplishment for Jakob! He has had 2 marshmallows after dinner every night as a reward (he loves these you see)
What a good boy!!!! ;D
Just wanted to share some positives as it has been a hard time of late.
Thanks for letting me share
Kirstyxx

Yay Jakob!!!!!! And then there's me. I'm happy that she tried Doritos today. And liked them. I'm cool with this as it was after she ate almost all of her toast, and all but one bite of her banana. And she did try something new. The fact that it is total junk is slightly irrelevent tonight. ;)
-
Thats great about the meat. Zach really does not like meat, I think it is the texture:
Here are a few things that I have learned from the Feeding Clinic so far: I still have not been, but my friend that went gave me a lot of information and stuff they told her.
1.) If your toddler has a problem with texture and seems to still like purees, but not baby food:
- You can buy this stuff called THICK IT. Here in the US (Wal-Mart) (Wal-greens) pharamacy can order it for you. It is actually what they use in nursing homes a lot.
- Since a lot of the baby foods are just to blan tasting. One tip they gave:
* Take a fruit cup, put the juice and fruit in the blender and add 2 tablespoons of thick it. It tastes really really good ( a much better taste than baby food).
* I did this tonight with cooked peas and carrots in real butter (for the extra calories) (he would never eat them other wise).
- If you need to boost calories for your lo because they are on the small side or not getting enough, I have a lot of calorie boosting ideas.
Just an example:
- They suggest taking 2 pancakes, maple syrup, butter and a fruit with some water and 2 tablespoons of thick it and blend it up in the blender.
- Or just make sure to put butter on toast, syrup on pancakes anything at all with extra calories (the stuff that we normally would stay away from)
They are big on the command "TAKE BITE" and to give A LOT of praise! And I was really shocked, but if your lo is having a hard time eating, they actually suggest the following:
- Let them eat in front of the T.V: You say "Take bite, you can watch T.V", they take a bit and get 10 seconds of T.V. then you have to turn the T.V off, "Take Bite, T.V, etc.
I personally don't like that one, Zach does better with no T.V, but my friends child HATED his high chair and that was the only way they could get him to ever eat.
Anyhow if you want some tips, I got the information my friend gave me.
We go to the feeding clinic in November, but may not have to go after all. Zach is doing so much better!
Wendy ;) ;) ;)
-
OOO!!!!!! More please!!
-
I am glad that things are getting better for Zach , Wendy. What exactly is in Thick-it? It sounds as though the feeding clinic is very behaviorist in approach, with using reinforcers etc. I feel a bit dubious about the advice about those calorie fillers such as syrup etc. It sounds as though it's all about getting the calories in regardless of the foodsource eg you could eat a healthy banana, or get the same calorie fill by eating a chocolate cookie. I don't know, I just didn't get a good vibe about that part of the advice. Just my opinion though.
-
Thick it is a powdered food thickener. Basically modified corn starch and maltodextrin. It is used to thicken liquids and liquidy foods to a consistancy that is easier to handle. You can thicken stuff to various consistancies like nectar, honey, and pudding thick. So in this case, you are pureeing regular food, then thickening it some. Gets lo used to the taste of regular food, with a consistancy he is used to eating.
-
Thank you Mouse Mom. I had never heard of the product but was thinking along the lines of cornstarch when I read about it. Has anyone else ever used it and what did you think about it?
-
Because it is a modified corn starch, Thick It can cause diarrhea in many LOs. There is also a product called Simply Thick that is supposed to be better for this purpose. I also get concerned about the use of TV as a reward system - but I've always been nervous about trying to "trick" kids to eat - but they know much better than I. I am glad, however, that Zach is doing better! And great news Jakob and Kirsty!
As for us, it's been pretty rough. We think things are being exacerbated by teething - but who really knows? Yesterday Marisa had:
- Breakfast: 3/4 of oatmeal/fruit puree mix (but only while she was distracted by playing with the baby food jar), little bit of milk, 2 small bites whole grain English muffin
- Morning snack: milk
- Lunch: Refused fruit/veg puree. 5 tiny bites grilled cheese on whole wheat, milk, veggie booty. Also refused turkey meatball and steamed carrots
- Afternoon snack: milk, hard pretzel
- Dinner: Jar of turkey/veggie/barley (but only while played with/chewed my cell phone), one Perdue nugget (also only while distracted), few veggie chips, Just Strawberries
- Bedtime: Little milk
Milk total for day: 13.5 ounces
I'm glad we have Marisa's 15-month visit in another month as the Ped said he'd discuss this issue with us then and we can see if it's time to start seeing a feeding specialist...
-
very, very interesting topics going on here...Wendy thanks for the tips. Karen, sorry Marisa is having some rough days. Megan has been eating really well lately even chicken nuggets and fish fingers consistently if i let her dip in ranch. Although still refusing my attempts at new foods including:
-broc w/ cheese sauce - wont play our game of "touch/lick/mommy bite/megan bite" ...which you know from early posts was a recommendation of her OT and meg is very keen on this now w/ most foods. she doesn't usually bite but she will touch 99% of the time.
-beans (any of your los like beans and if so what kind - how do you prepare?)
I liked this idea: Take a fruit cup, put the juice and fruit in the blender and add 2 tablespoons of thick it. It tastes really really good ( a much better taste than baby food).
Especially since Megan seems to like apple sauce better when out of the fruit cup vs her dish. But i don't see how that addresses the texture, but it does get them use to the taste of the food and calories!
Regarding the TV, i am not sure i would go to the extent they mention. But i noticed a huge improvement in megan's eating when I started letting her watch her 'momo'. Megan's word for her sign language DVDs. Plus she is willing to sit for much longer. I figure, she is eatting better - she is learning her signing which helps w/ the speech and everyone is more relaxed! Just my opinion.
Karen - on the note of contacting EI, i wanted to let you know it takes approx 3 months from when you call to actually getting the help. You don't need your ped's support to call them...just something to think about. We haven't yet seen a feeding speicalist as there is a waiting list plus Megan seems to be making progress, they are focusing more on her speech and other sensory issues for now.
-
The tv thing didn't bother me so much. Although lo doesn't watch tv, sometimes he will have to fiidle with something, such as keys, phones etc so that I can spoon feed him. I am just more concerned about getting him to eat healthful food, as I personally don't want him filling up on non nutritious calorie fillers. Thanks for some great ideas, Meg's Mum. I have been rereading about portion size for toddlers and feel more reassured that he is eating close to what is recommended. And although he sometimes doesn't eat much, at least what he eats is good for him.
I am still somewhat confused on the Thick it. Whay would it needed to be added to pureed food? I'm sorry, it's probably obvious to everyone else!
-
binxy - i think you will find that if you put peaches and fruit juice into the blender you will end up w/ a liquid that needs a straw not a spoon. So the thick it will turn the blended mixture into something your LO can eat him self w/ a spoon. Does that help any?
-
Yes it does. I see that cornstarch is used in some baby foods as well for that same purpose I guess. When I puree fruit, I generally wouldn't add much liquid at all, but it takes so much fruit then to get a sizeable amount. Lo likes to eat it as a finger food lately, which helps.
-
Mydramcametrue ~ I have just reread my posts and I am sorry if they came across as unsupportive to you. I am genuinely so happy for you that you are seeing an improvement as I know the struggles you have been having with Zach. I would keep the appointment with the clinic if I were you even if he starts eating better, as you never know when you will get another one if you let that one go.
-
And they will have more ideas once they meet your little guy. Probably stuff none of us have thought of.
-
Definitely - I'd also keep the appt Wendy - but so glad to hear Zach is doing better!
-
Just my opinion... strict behavorial approaches work very, very well for serious feeding issues, so if that's what you're dealing with, then I think the feeding clinic will probably be really beneficial.
One thing Lilah and I started doing was making her lunch together. She gets to help me make her sandwhich, then choose a cookie cutter to cut it out with. The first day she chose a butterfly and was so entranced with the whole thing that she ate the whole sandwich. Yesterday it didn't work quite as well, but she still ate some.
We're continuing with the continuous feeding idea... and today she skipped lunch, but she was skipping lunch when she skipped snack, anyway, so I figure at least she ate a snack! She had her standard egg and toast breakfast (but skipped her juice), then ate about 1.5 oz of cheese and many, many whole-grain crackers. Definitely gotta try to get some fruits and veggies in her later today, though!
Does anyone else have a toddler who won't drink? Lilah drinks so little, and it really worries me more than the eating. Today she downed her water and I was thrilled. She barely drinks milk or juice, which I would prefer she drink at least some of the time to get more calories in, but if she only wants to drink water, then what can I do? Water it is.
-
Sabrina, what is she drinking out of? We get more into Miss Charlie with a straw cup rather than a sippy. Or are you using a regular cup? Maybe a selection of different character cups?
-
Hi everyone,
I've got a recipe that you might be interested in - Zucchini Yogurt Multigrain Muffins. It's a good way to get both veggies and fiber into your lo (if they'll eat it ::) - we've had some limited success with our lo). Here is the link: http://bread.allrecipes.com/az/74935.asp. We made a few modifications (swapped the amounts of regular flour and wheat flour, left out the raisins and pecans, and it should only be a half cup of sugar - not a whole cup as listed). Hey, and if your lo won't eat them, you can ;D - they're pretty tasty.
-
I wish DD would eat muffins - won't touch em.
So today we had all of:
- Breakfast: Refused oatmeal/fruit puree. Little bit of milk, 3 small bites whole grain English muffin w/butter, few cheerios
- Morning snack: Milk, Just Bananas
- Lunch: 4 small bites grilled cheese, milk, tiny bit veggie booty. Refused turkey breast, steamed green beans, rest of sandwich, puree
- Afternoon snack: Refused cheese pieces, puree, french toast. Had milk and Just Bananas
- Dinner: Little bit of milk, half Perdue chicken nugget, half jar of turkey/veg/barley (while distracted playing with water bottle)
- Bedtime: half ounce of milk
Milk total for day: 12.5. Fiberjuice total - 4. Lots of upset DD in high chair or booster. Will see what doctor says tomorrow...
-
Sabrina, what is she drinking out of? We get more into Miss Charlie with a straw cup rather than a sippy. Or are you using a regular cup? Maybe a selection of different character cups?
We have tried just about every cup on the planet. ::) We have straw cups, no-spill sippies, free flow sippies, and open cups. It's not the cup, it's that she just doesn't want to drink. When she really is thirsty, she'll glug it down, but that doesn't seem to happen too often. And when it does, it's pretty much only water she'll drink.
BUT, on the upside...
NEWS FLASH!!
Lilah ATE SALAD last night!!! I could not believe it! She didn't eat a whole lot, but she actually chewed and swallowed several bites of lettuce with dressing (and it was a very strong, vinegary dressing, too!). She also ate pesto pizza. And today, when we were out shopping at Trader Joe's , they had samples of vanilla yogurt with chopped banana and granola, served in little cups with a spoon. Lilah ate it all, and she never seems to like bananas much, or anything on top of her yogurt! I was so proud of her for trying something new!
-
I thought i would share my new sly trick - tofu. I mix a package of sugar free choc pudding w/ 1 package of silken tofu, 2 tbs cocoa powder - add a bit of milk or soy milk - mix all in the food processor (blender was a mess). She thinks it is choc pudding and it has about 8 grams of protein for 3.5 oz serving. This recipe made about 4 - 4oz cups.
You can also make tofu brownies (I will cut the amount of sugar), i am going to try that one next.
-
Booooing!! ;D (bump!)
-
Lunch today consisted of a small tin of baked beans, a home made beef pattie and some beef and noodle cup of soup scrounged from Mum!
-
That sounds like a great lunch Sophie and Jo!
Today we had:
- Breakfast: 3 small bites toasted, buttered whole grain English muffin, milk, freeze dried fruit (very little). Refused oatmeal mixed w fruit puree
- Morning snack: bite of Mommy's pumpernickel bagel with tofu, some cheerios, small bite of bread, milk
- Lunch: Less than half jar sweet potato/chicken, almost half of a half grilled cheese sandwich, milk, 6-7 Just Peas. Refused pieces of fried chicken breast
- Afternoon snack: milk, Just Bananas, small piece of hard pretzel while out in stroller
- Dinner: Milk, 2 small bites Perdue chicken nugget, 3 tiny bites meatball, 6-7 Just Peas, Veggie Booty, Just Strawberries (lot of them)
- Bedtime: Milk, few cheerios
Milk total for day: about 16 ounces. Juice total 5 ounces diluted apple juice. Has basically been totally refusing purees for the most part, which is to be expected but hard to get in protein and especially veggies otherwise. Also teething badly.
-
Karen: What is the Just Bananas and Just Strawberries that you are giving Marisa?
Also we took Zach to the Feeding Clinic on Tuesday. He starts Feeding Therapy Monday. They are going to teach him skills on how to chew and consume more food. They said that a lot of the reason his foods are coming out whole (apples, pears, banana's,green beans, etc.) is because he is not chewing.
They also did a ton of blood test and stool test. If you look at his weight on the weight curve it has been going down since 8 months old. Not that he has lost weight, just he has not gained enough. Also he has had 3 infections in the past 2 months and 3 different antibotics. They are concerned about the # of infections viral and bacteria that he keeps getting. :( They are testing him for Celiac Disease, his Iga and Igg antibodys, Basically if anything is wrong with him, they will be able to see it.
Lets just pray nothing is wrong with my little man :(

This is an interesting and a very helpful thread. Why did I not see it till now.
Ds is 16 months now. He has only 7 teethes. He is not a a very picky eater but he eats very small portions. On good day he can eat
wake milk
breakfast 3/4 bread/waffle, 1/4 apple/pear, 1/2 egg or some tofu
lunch 1/4 cup rice or 3/4 slice bread with 2-3tbl egg salad 1tbl any veggie 1/2 apple
snack yobaby
snack milk some fruit
dinner same as lunch but lesser amt
bed milk
total milk 16-20 oz mixed with carnation instant breakfast mix. no juice only water
on worst days
milk 8-10 oz
1/2 egg
1 bread
1/2 fruit
1 yobaby
for the whole day
Ok now I have some questions when I see his poop(gross), I see pieces of carrot, beans, peas, grapes etc undigested is this normal? He chew well with the few teethe he has. How should I calculate the calories when half of what he eats comes undigested.
I never thought being a mother will make me look at what our lo eats and poops. But I still love him so much.
-
batuki05: My lo has the same problem with whole foods coming out. I think a lot of it is normal (carrots, beans), but in our case he poops out bananas, apples, pears, green beans, freeze dried foods, bascially to to the point you could re-cycle them (sorry).
We got Zach's test results back in and the place that did his blood work and stool test messed up, so we have to re-test him. But he did get one test back and it showed that his Alkaline phosphatase level was increased. He said that is the enzyme that is related to your liver and bones. From what I have read online it is common for people that have a Vitamin D defiency, but also can mean a lot of worse stuff. The doctor said not to worry myself over it. Yeah hard to do.
Anyhow we started feeding therapy Monday and the are supposed to teach him how to chew. We will see. Monday bascially they just watched him from another room while he ate.
Also he now only drinks PEDIASURE and loves it. So any of your lo's that are having problems with eating, you may want to consider it. Zach went from drinking 8 ox. of Milk to about 16/ 18 oz. of Pediasure.
Things seem to be getting better today. He has been eating a little better.
Today was:
Wake: 9 oz. Pediasure
Breakfast: 1/2 bowl cereal
Lunch: 2 mini corndogs, 1 fruit cup
Snack: 6 mini fig newtons
Dinner: 10 green beans and 4 bits of mash potatoes
Snack: Cup of applesauce
He also drank Pediasure all through out the day.
Actually that does not seem like a lot at all.. Okay so it was a bad day...
Wendy
-
My Picky todler so far today ate:
7.30am - 1.5 weetbix and milk and then 1 dry weetbix on it's own (eww!) and a cup of milk. 1 x Apricot fruit bar
10am - water and 2 X strawberry fruit bars and 1 x Apricot fruit bar (we were in the car, easy thing to eat on the run)
12.15pm - Lunch 1 x vegemite sandwich (standard favourite) 3/4 banana, cup of milk.
He is asleep at the moment. Will see how the rest of the day goes. Dinner is always our biggest struggle.
Melissa.

Was reading this thread (which I was a BIG part of back with DD who is now 5 and a GREAT eater) and thought I'd revive it as DS is getting pickier and pickier. Maybe we can sticky it also?
So far today DS (16 months) has eaten:
B: small piece challah french toast and some blueberries
L: 3/4 yogurt, few tiny bites turkey/veggie burger
Lately he's been refusing most meats and lots of veggies. Argh.
-
Karen, we already have a sticky for the picky eaters http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=71906.390
Might be worth joining there. :-*
-
I did used to belong there BUT also here as we felt this was more for sharing what worked/didn't work that day (like the what did your toddler eat today - but for pickier ones!). But thanks!!!
-
Just attempting again to revive this thread in case anyone has things their picky eaters eat that might help others!
Yesterday my picky almost 20-month old ate:
B: 2 small homemade silver dollar pancakes (with added oat bran for more nutrition), small all natural fruit smoothie pouch (100% fruit)
L: applesauce, half a toasted whole wheat mini-bagel with butter
S: goldfish crackers, banana
D: pizza
Today so far:
B: slice of homemade challah french toast, half a banana
L: 2/3 a yogurt, 1/3 an all natural pouch of banana, beet and blueberry
