I was just wondering, now this is weird, but when does everyone fit their showers into the day?? Before the kids get up, after bed or during the day? My toddler is too tall to be in his playpen so I either shower during his naps which I really dont like to do because I go 1/2 the day and not able to go anywhere or i put him in his highchair in the bathroom with me. I know it is weird question, but I just dont know when I 'should' be taking a shower. If I take it before he wakes up, then I will have to get up at 4am, if I wait until after then it will be right before I go to bed which wakes me up. Is it bad if I shower while he is up? Any input would be great. Thanks

In desperate times I have showered with my toddler. She's 14 months and she sits and plays with her toys. Sometimes she holds her baby einstein over her head to protect her from the rain :)
I usually shower before she wakes but if she wakes up early or I sleep in :o I either bring her in there with me, wait till nap time or wash my face, brush my teeth and wash my hair in the sink and call it a shower. ::) ;D

I shower and get ready before DS gets up. However, he does not get up till 7AM. (Took months to get to that point)
Maybe you could put some toys on the floor outside the shower and let him play in the bathroom while you shower? Maybe blocks which can occupy him for a few minutes.
HTH!

I know the best thing is for me to shower before the kids get up, or at least before dh has to leave--its gets our day going much smoother, but since I'm so totally sleep deprived these days, even 15 min. out of bed that I don't have to be is too much,
so, I usually shower during Abe's first nap, while Savannah watches TV. I just put her on the bed in our room and she usually stays right there--when she was younger and not so interested in the tv, I'd give her a few toys and babygate the door to the bathroom so she could see me, but couldn't get into trouble (the rest of our room was pretty well baby-proofed.)

i put DD in the shower with me (or she gets in the shower with DH if i'm at work).shes such a water babe and hates it if she can't come in.she has her bath toys that she plays with etc.

I also take DS into the bathroom, he sits there and plays while I have super quick showers. Showering with an audience isnt great but it works LOL!
Sometimes I have a bath in the eves to relax.

I shower with Abigail. We have a detachable shower head, I take it off as she hates water in her face and she plays while I try to shower while sitting down! I relish the weekends because I get a shower all to myself! Oh, and Sam is sleeping his first nap while Abigail and I shower!

I shower with the bathroom door open and DS runs from his room to the bathroom, moving the bath toys to his room and trying to put the toys from his room in the bath with me ::).

I shower (with the door open ::)) whilst ds pootles about in the bathroom. He has a few toys, but he's more interested in pelting me with them ;).
He only has 1 nap a day now, so I don't like wasting that precious 'me' time showering. He's quite happy playing with his toys and chatting to me. Plus, I think it's a good lesson - he knows that I have to spend a little time on myself, even if it's just a couple of minutes - the world doesn't revolve completely around him :)

Our bathroom connects to our bedroom, so I wait until dd2 goes down for her first nap, bring dd1 into our room, lock the door, put something on TV that she likes to watch, and shower. Sometimes she'll stay in front of the TV, sometimes she wanders, but she's got toys and I can hear what she's doing at all times. Bathroom/bedroom are completely babyproofed. :)

I guess I'm the only one, but dd has the run of the house while I am showering. I have a few toys we only pull out when I'm the in the shower (the DoodlePro is a big hit), so that usually keeps her in the vicinity. I used to let her watch TV, but I felt like her overall TV watching was getting out of hand, so we cut TV out completely for a while, including my shower time. She likes to hand me my towel, so she usually comes running when the shower cuts off.

Awww, so sweet. Ds loves to do this too, he's so proud of himself when I say thank you :)

nope! i do that too. ;D
when it was just jaina, i would shower during her morning nap - couldn't be bothered with getting up before she did. ;) when she stopped taking a morning nap, i would just do it when it was convenient - she would almost always stay in the bathroom.
when #2 came along, i would just do it during his morning nap.
nowadays - i do it when i please. they are sometimes in the bathroom with me (cause mommy showering is just that interesting ::) ), and sometimes they are wherever in the house - which is supremely babyproofed.
and giggling on the towel providing - mine fight over who gets to hand it to me. then one day they realized the towel has 2 ends. 8)

This is one of the things I have seriously slacked on since having kids. :-[ I could never sacrifice sleep by getting up before they do, and I hate sacrificing "me time" to do it because unless it's a leisurely bath, I think of it as a chore. So I sort of sneak one in whenever I can and don't fret too much if I don't take a shower even every other day. My hair is very thick and long so I rarely get to do the whole wash/condition/brush out/dry all in one go (let alone shave ::)). I guess I usually end up showering after both kids are in bed, but then I hate sleeping with wet hair. Since Noah's started juniour kindergarten and goes every other day, I have a better chance of getting one in while Evie naps, but I always bring the monitor in the bathroom and have often had to jump out in the middle of the shower because she's a very unpredictable napper. >:(

I do the same as Erin. Our bedroom is open to our master bath. I lock my master bedroom door and Jess has free run of my bedroom and bathroom while I shower. I look so forward to it every morning. We go downstairs after she wakes and we do our thing. Then when she begins to get bored we trot upstairs to new scenery! I have the rooms totally baby-proofed and little baskets of her toys scatterd through out. She is also really good about coming in to see me if I call her. It works out really, really well!
-
I also take mine whenever I get a chance & the door is open for Isabella to come running in and out as she pleases ;D

Either while DH is home, which is when I get my long, luxurious showers, can defuzz etc. Riley likes to shower with me, which is nice, but I cannot have the water as hot as I like it, or else he will sit in his highchair in the bathroom.

When DD was on 2 naps i would do it during her morning nap. Then when she moved to 1 nap if i could be bothered i would do it before DD got up. If i go out in the afternoon i have one while she is sleeping but lately i have been having one at night after DD has gone to bed it helps me unwind.

Wow, thank all of you for your responses. I think I am going to go and babyproof the cabinets in my bathroom and let him hang out in there while I shower. Great ideas!!

My 2 girls have always had the run of the house too when I needed to get showered,When dd2 was a baby I always made sure she was safe away from dd1 though like in a cot or something like that.
