Title: Milton????
Post by: sunbeam on March 12, 2007, 13:10:21 pm
Hi

I was just wondering if anyone could give me advice on Milton Sterlising Fluid as I'm not 100% certain how it works (yes I'm that stupid! ;D)

We're taking LO to my mums at the weekend and instead of carting the big steam steriliser with us we are just taking her bottles and a bottle of milton sterilising fluid.  On the bottle it says that the items are suitable after 15 mins or can be kept for 24 hours.  However, it also says to leave them to drain (no need to rinse) before use.  Doesn't this mean that while they are draining they are open to bacteria and stuff?  Or can we make the bottles up straight away which means there are still tiny droplets of milton on the bottles/teats etc?  will this harm her?

I'm sooo confused!!!   :-\

Thanks

Sunbeam

I would personally take a risk on them drying in the open rather than leave droplets. You might leave a taste if anything. It's got quite a strong smell. I'd also be tempted to do another final rinse with boiled water but I know that's not the official advice. If you did the boiled water rinse you could make them up straight away IMO.

You could also boil bottles. I used those little microwaveable bags that steam sterilise.

It says not to give the bottles a rinse after using it. I gave them one anyway though... The stuff that is in Miltons is stuff that is in drinking water anyway though :)
