My son seems to be more gassy and constipated than normal. Could the switch from RTF to powdered Alimentum be the reason? I also started him on 1 TBSP. of rice cereal in the mornings about 6 days ago. Could it be that?

Rice cereal can cause gass in some kiddos. I would try getting rid of the rice for a few days and see if it improves. Then if it doesn't improved then you know it was the powered formula that did it. I have heard that some babies do better on RTF. Mine always did better on the powdered.

My DD could only tolerate the RTF Alimentum - the ingredients are NOT the same between that and the powdered (think one has cornstarch or something). But yes, rice cereal can be very constipating too.

I would eliminate the baby rice first and see if that helps. If not then I would switch back to the RTF Alimentum. I hope the situation resloves soon.

Yep as pp have said the powder version vs. rtf are different, however many babies with food allergies have trouble with rice cereal early on too, so go with what others have suggested and cut out the cereal and if still not better go back to Rtf. Good luck!
