Title: she still has milk protein intolerance
Post by: urbantis on September 25, 2007, 23:00:49 pm
My DD is 1 year old, she had intolerance to milk protein since birth so I gave her soy formula and I leaved all diary when I was bf her. Now I tried again with whole milk, but 1 week later she started to have a (i don't know the word in English..) a rush, red spots.. in her skin, and she was in pain because of this..  She have been eating 11 oz of milk a day, for 1 week and then the reaction started. So I removed the milk and now she is better. so what now? no cheese? icecream? butter?
should I try again in a a few months, years, never?
thanks

I have no suggestions for you but wanted to give you some {{{{{hugs}}}}}. Lily is also MPI. I'm hoping she grows out of it soon so she can have regular milk and cheese when she gets of age.

Did she have a rash? Hives? Eczema? That's kind of what it sounds like to me.

More {{{{{hugs}}}}} to both of you.

somebody else knows better about the actual time to try to introduce cow's milk again.  I do know that cheeses and yogurts are easier to digest than milk.  My 11m ds is MSPI and I started him on Goat Yogurt.  He has been on it for 11 days.  He did break out with hives 2 days ago.  I stopped the yogurt for 24 hr and then introduced it again when the hives cleared.  All is well.  I'm thinking the hives were linked to an infection he may have had.  I give my ds 1 cup of rice milk and still bf.  So, the rice milk is always an option for the next few months while you're figuring out the cows milk.

Rash and eczema, that was the word! in her chest and her rumps, her  rumps was so irritated that it was hard to clean her. Now she is theething so her rumps (i know this is not the exact word... sorry) are irritated again, but is another kind of irritation, the other was more like eczema. I didn't know that yogurt and cheese were easy to digest, doctor said that milk was the easiest so I gave her milk.. but I do not trust in doctors... what can I say I have had bad experiences.. Sometimes I mix some soy yogurt in her soy milk, is homemade yogurt because is my country soy yogurt doesn't exist.. is not hard to make but the starter is cows milk yogurt, so I have to make it 4 times to eliminate all milk protein possible, is a mess!
the worst of all of this problem is that I do not have support from my family  they think I am crazy, saying she has mpi, to give her a little, to try, and try. DH is very supportive but not my mother or MIL or brothers .... I have MIL too! now I know, all my life  I have been living with allergies and eczema and nobody told me about diary... but I can eat a little of diary sometimes, of course I pay for it with some kind of allergic reaction.., and they still believe I am joking with this >:(
thanks for your support.

rump = bottom or bum.  ;) irritation = diaper rash. ;) What is your native language? You're doing a great job! :)

I still have no suggestions for you - just more {{{{{hgs}}}}} :)

I am so sorry that your family are not supportive. Most of my family do not understand my sons allergies and think we are being too protective of him.

I would wait at least another 6 months before trying milk again, but this is just my opinion and not a medical fact. You do need to wait until your dd is back to baseline though otherwise you can not be sure if your dd is reacting or not.

Hope that helps and sending lots of {{{hugs}}} your way.

I agree with Jimbob on waiting it out another 4-6 mos.  I would recommend trying sheep or goat (ovine and caprine (Esp)) yogurt.  My ds (will be 1 year on 13, Oct)  is MSPI. For the past 2 weeks he has been on goat yogurt.  When he has his birthday I will try Goat Milk.  If he doesn't tolerate it then I will give him rice milk until he is old enough to have the cow or goat milk.  This may be something you might try if available.  I am sorry for your family's ignorance.  You know your baby best.  Keep posting!

My son didn't outgrow his milk allergy until after two years.  He outgrew the soy allergy sooner.  Some never do.  My other son's best friend has a anaphalaxtic (sp?) reaction to milk and he's five.
