Title: what's the deal with cheeses other then chedder?
Post by: meltown on October 19, 2007, 19:06:34 pm
so Ds has no allergies that I know of.  but when we gave him motzerella he spent about 1 hour, 2 or 3 hours after eating it throwing up until his stomach was empty and he could relax.  ysteday for dinner I gave him pasta and white sauce with a little bit of parmesan cheese.  he had never had it before.  but about 3 hours after he ate it he started throwing up and the exact same thing happened as before.  he threw up until his stomach was empty and then he went back to sleep and slept the whole night withoutthrowing up and has been pretty good today.  I am stumped because he has chedder almost everyday and hasn't had a problem with it.  he also has milk every night.  he had a bt of an intolerance to milk when he was really little and I had to stop drinking liquid milk until he was about 10 mo. old because he was BF.  Any Idea would be great.  Ithoguth I would bring it up at his next appointment, but I am just stumped as to why only these other cheees are bothering him.

They are both Italian cheeses, do they have goats milk in them or something fundamentally different to english cheese?

I don't really know the answer to your question, but my ds is milk intolerant, can't have milk, yoghurt, etc. BUT he can eat cheddar till the cows come home ;). So I get a lot of his dairy/calcium in that way.

Don't ask me how it works, though :-\

Well I think maybe the mozarella might be a bit heavy but cant imagine it would cause your little one to be that sick. Parmesan? Now there I am stumped cos anytime dd is sick dh recommends pasta and parmesan and any time his family are sick they will eat rice and parmesan, supposed to help settle the tummy  ???

DH can eat cold cheese... like a cheddar sandwich. If it's melted on pizza or pasta, he get a sore tummy.

Mel, this is mysterious, you're definitely onto something...

Hugs for your little boy  :-*

I know that hard cheeses like cheddar are less likely to cause problem with children that are MPI than soft cheeses like mozzarella are. However I would have though that parmesan would come under that category. Does your ds drink regular cows milk now?

yes he does and hasn't had much problem with it.  doesn't throw up or no signs of the intolernce anymore.  that is what is really stumping me.  I am just sticking with chedder for now as I dont know what the deal is. I have thought about a lot of what has been said here and I think I'm goign to ask my Ped about it at his next appointment or call the office to see what they say.  wouldn't he have other signs to thins with milk if it was MPI?
