Title: Routine/Feeding Schedule for 14 month old?
Post by: cbg on November 29, 2007, 15:28:00 pm
Hi - just curious what other 14 month olds are doing.  Can anyone share their routine?  Here's mine, but I think it's time to make some changes with the food:

7am wake and bottle
8am breakfast
10am 40 min nap
11am bottle
noon lunch
2pm 1.5 hr nap
4pm bottle
5pm dinner
7:30 bottle and bedtime

Thanks!

Hi, my dd is the same age and here is her routine (although the naps are all over the place right now!):

6-6:30 am wake and milk (from cup)
7:30am breakfast
10:00am snack
10:00-10:30am nap (anywhere from 45min - 1hr 45min)
12:00-12:30pm lunch
3:00-3:30pm snack
3:30-4:00pm nap (anywhere from 20 min - 1 1/2 hours)
6:30pm dinner (we wait for dh so we can have a family dinner)
7:30pm in bed

What kind of changes are you thinking of?

Mainly reducing the bottles and doing more snacks, maybe eliminating the bedtime bottle by having dinner later (and like you...with the whole family at 6/6:30).

You mentioned that naps are a bit wonky...one thing that helped me was limiting her morning nap to no more than 40 min - 1 hour....making sure that she was up by 11:15am.  That way, she was ready for her afternoon nap by 2:15.  Might help?

Ella is 15 months old, but her eating routine has been the same for months.

7/7:30: wake up, out of crib at 7:30
8:00: Breakfast with milk
11:30: Lunch with milk or water
2:30ish: Snack with water
5:00: Dinner with milk and a small dessert

Hope that helps!

My 14 month old has the following schedule (although sometimes he has 2 naps rather than 1 if he falls asleep in the car/buggy in the morning)

7am (ish) - wake
7.45am - breakfast with lidded cup of milk
10am - snack e.g. banana, cheese crackers, strawberries, etc plus a drink of water
12/12.30pm - lunch
12.15/12.30pm till whenever - nap
3pm - snack
5/5.30pm - dinner
7.15pm - lidded cup of milk before teethbrushing and bed

My DD Zoey is also 14 months.

A "typical" day is something like this...
7:15am wake and nurse for about 10 minutes
7:45am oatmeal and water
9:00am snack - usually some form of dairy since she does not drink milk
11:30am lunch and water
12:15 -1:45 nap
2:00pm snack and water - usually some form of dairy since she does not drink milk
4:00pm small snack (she LOVES to eat) and water
5:30 or so dinner and water
7:15pm bed

The later dinner (6:30) works well for us - I just find you need to play with the afternoon snack to find the right amount to hold them over till dinner, but also ensure they are hunger for dinner!  I love having her eat with us as does dh!  I think she enjoys her meals more since we have been doing this.

I usually give dd milk with meals except in the morning.  She wakes pretty hungry so I give her milk to hold her over until breakfast is ready!  I think the timing on when to give your lo milk depends on what type they are.  Does your lo drink too much milk - favoring it over food - or not enough?  I think if they drink too much milk then I would offer milk with main meals only and limit the amount each meal to be appropriate.  If they don't drink enough milk then give it to them before a meal or as a snack.  I offer water through out the day and with snacks.  If she is having an off day (teething or such) then I offer her milk more often since it is a comfort to her.

We have tried limiting the morning nap but she was still refusing her afternoon one!  I now let her sleep as long as she likes and find I need at least 4 hours before her pm nap - so things are starting to settle.  I think we'll have to keep the am nap and just keep moving it out.  She prefers more day time sleep and less night time - I've tried cutting the daytime but she just refuses to add it to night time!  I think that will happen once she is down to one nap!  (I'm over in the sleep forum a lot for this!!!!)

It's such a balancing act, isn't it??  Sadie doesn't drink too much milk, so I'll probably keep the bottle with the snacks and water with dinner.  I gave her a snack at 4pm yesterday (a full cup of a yogurt and fruit smoothie!!) and then she had a full dinner at 6pm.  By 7:15 she was ready for bed.  I offered the bottle and she declined as expected.....but she slept through until 7am this morning!  I think that I may like this new routine :)  Thanks for the suggestion (and good luck with the sleep - aren't these forums great?)

my almost 13.5 month old schedule is good and i hope it stays like this for a bit.
wake 7am ( somedays he wants a cup of milk right away other days not)
breakfast 8:30 to 9ish
10am nap 1-1.5 hrs
12-1 somewhere - lunch
nap 3 1-1.5 hrs
dinner 5:30-6ish
bed 8pm
he gets a cups all day only and with water or milk or juice and only a bottle before bed but i am eliminating that one as well soon.

Mackenzie is nearly 14 mo and this has been her routine since she turned 1:
730am - wake, breakfast, milk sippy
945am - snack, milk sippy
1015-1130am - nap
1230pm - lunch, milk sippy
230-330pm - nap
330pm - snack, milk sippy
6pm - dinner, milk sippy
7pm - 6oz bottle, bedtime

She can have water whenever she wants throughout the day but milk is just for meals/snacks. We'll probably get rid of the bedtime bottle in the next month or so, but I'm really in no hurry.
